Announcement to SO

How did you tell your DH/SO you were pregnant? Any funny/good ideas you've heard about before from a friend?
I haven't told DH yet and time is a ticking.

Re: Announcement to SO

  • Since all of our babies are due right after the new year you could make a sign that says “2019, Smith (obviously substitute whatever your last name is) Party of 5!” - I think you said baby number 3 in a separate post.

Or what I did is I made a sign for each of my kids. My oldests said “big sis” (which she already was) and then my sons said “big brother” which was new. My husband loved it!

  • I always thought I would do something cutesy when the time came but I didn't. We were away at an out of town wedding and AF was supposed to come and didn't. He ran out to the store and I took a test while he was gone and it came back positive. I told him as soon as he got back, I couldn't wait!

I didn't do anything creative either time. With DD, I chugged water on the way home from work so I could test. When I got home I ran to the bathroom, peed, and immediately saw the line so I peed on the other test, another line! I ran out and told DH I was pregnant.

This time, we were out of town for a wedding I was in and I had started testing like a crazy person like 6 DPO and obviously were negative. Well I took one Friday night (9 DPO) with a WondFo and got the faintest line ever that I thought I was just hoping I actually saw it. Saturday morning, I didn't pee, walked to the CVS (I stayed with my friend and DH had the van at a different hotel), bought a digi and FRER, and tested after breakfast. It was positive and I FaceTimed DH.

  • I have no self-control. So both times, I texted him while he was at work. So lame. But, I wanted to get my DS a shirt that said: "Big Brother in Training," and see how long it took my husband to notice. But...maybe I can do that for announcements.

  • With my second I wrote him a note "from the baby" and stuck it to a book along with the test.  When he got home from work, I told him our oldest picked a book for him to read.

With our first, he was there when I tested and this one was unexpected to I just kind of handed it to him and started bawling.   :D
  • I literally ambushed him when he walked in the door and shoved my wondfo in his face. He didnt get it.

  • I'm having my SIL use her Amazon account to order a list of really cute baby things that represent some key aspects of our lives (like a baby-sized chef's toque, a onesie with his college's name on it, a pair of tiny slippers with our favorite animal, etc) and present him with it after a nice dinner at home.  I hope this will go well, because we weren't supposed to start "trying" until June... oops.
  • I gave my so a onesie with a letter to him from the baby, saying what an awesome dad he was going to be and baby can’t wait to meet him. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JRE0RIE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We were at dinner last night with the kids and I told him I didn’t get my period. We talked in code a little. I came home, took a test and walked away. I few minutes later I had to use the restroom again because I’m old and kids destroy your ability to hold pee and it was positive. I called him into the bedroom and said, “that might be legit. We only had sex the one time!”
He said that he saw it right away. His excitement was a slower burn because of our losses but this is what we were hoping for so I know he’s happy.

  • @tosh24 EXACTLY!! The day after I was sure I was out I poas at like 4am then forced my dh out of bed to come look and confirm and like you did a similar thing each day till beta. No cute booties or cards or balloons or onesies :/
  • So, MH and I had agreed to test together while we are trying because he wanted to be there and be supportive of whatever results we get...weeelll this cycle I gave in and tested while he was at work (I was a bit certain I was pregnant due to some symptoms I was having, but I figured it would be a negative). Well it was positive. And I was like... "Crap...he will be mad I didn't wait for him". So I just decided to get some construction paper and write a note (as if my son wrote it), and it said "Look daddy! I get to have a baby brother or sister! P.S. Please don't be mad at mommy, she has no self control". lol. And I taped two tests to the paper. DH was of course super happy, and only slightly sad I didn't wait for him. He was more happy about the BFP.

I wanted to mention that for my first pregnancy, I had bought my H a shirt (a whole year before we got pregnant because it took 14 months to get pregnant the first time). The shirt said "Achievement unlocked: Created Offspring" And it had the Xbox pop up achievement logo on it. He loved it! I loved the nerdy aspect of it!

With our son he was home when I tested. So he knew as soon as I walked out of the bathroom. With our daughter I ended up calling him right away out of shock/excitement. This ones a surprise. I only had a very faint positive yesterday on some very cheap amazon tests. This morning I went and got DD a Big Sister shirt and some first response tests to be sure. Now I’m very impatiently waiting for him to come home.
  • I surprised him at work,  since he's working out of town till Friday. (Darn construction jobs)  I put the test in a box with a Pinterest picture i found that explains the meaning of a rainbow baby.  Then i put that in a bag of snacks i brought to him.  He couldn't believe it.   I can't wait till he's home.

I drove a total of 5 hours today.  ( 2.5 to get to him and 2.5 back home).  I'm pooped.
  • I told him by asking if he could cook my steak that night to <sigh> medium.  I'm normally pretty zealous about only eating my steak medium rare, so that was a pretty big signal that something was up lol.
