Re: 3rd Trimester Check-in | Week of May 7th

  • Hi ladies! Hope everyone had a great weekend :) I had a prenatal visit on Fri and went over my birth plan with the last doctor I hadn't seen yet. I go to a practice with 4 doctors and any of them could be on-call when I give birth. She said baby girl is measuring on target according to my fundal height.

We had my baby sprinkle over the weekend, yesterday, it was so fun! I am so overwhelmed by all of the love pouring out for our little girl by so many. It's really sinking in as I'm getting the nursery finished. We're putting the car seat in the car in the next week or so. I've started putting some things together for a hospital bag but I only have a few things in it so far.

It's been beautiful weather here, thank God. So nice to have the windows open and air out of the house!

@TravelingCouple sounds like things are moving along nicely! so fun u had your sprinkle that's great!!  I need to get it together for sure!

@Holls214 ppl keep saying sleep as much as u can I try but it's not easy! I feel like getting me up all the time through the night is the preparation for all my feedings.  It's the morning feedings I'm sure I'll have the most issue with am feedings as I'm really a night owl  :D

cant believe I'm going to be 36wks Wednesday, 9 months is here and I'm still in disbelief!  Baby is still having a dance party in my belly which is always nice.

last night I think I pee'd every 15 min for 2/3hrs I just don't know where all the water came from.

ive been exhausted all weekend haven't had the energy for anything just wanted sleep amd
then had a crazy nose bleed out of no where.  Luckily it didn't last long but still strange.

    We're all getting so close!!

@TravelingCouple the weather here has been beautiful too, finally!  I've been trying to get some sun on this pale bump.  Sounds like you had a nice sprinkle!

AFM, almost 34 weeks!  Started thinking about our hospital bag too.  We're taking our car seat to the store we got it from to learn how to install it & we have a hospital tour Wednesday night.  No appointments this week; I think a check up next week & then it's every week!  I've also been having BH that wake me up.  I've been lucky & don't get up to pee ever but the last few nights I've woken up to a contraction.  I'm also starting to feel a little slower & tired so I nap pretty much daily.
  • I can’t believe how close we all are too! It’s crazy. We all started on here together what seems like not too long ago. My energy has definitely gone down hill and the insomnia doesn’t help. So tired all the time but can’t sleep unless it’s between 7-10am. The slacking at work has definitely started too.
No appts this week. We have one next week then onto weekly. Will be 35 weeks on Wednesday. I think I’m starting to have anxiety about the actual labor part or just trying to picture actually having a baby.
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.
  • @Hopeful_mom I’m so much more of a night owl than a morning person as well.

  • @Hopeful_mom omg 36 weeks?! That’s crazy and I feel like it’s gone so fast!! Hopefully you’ll be able to get sleep in the next few weeks! My sister got bloody noses out of the blue all the time when she was pregnant. She’d be standing there talking and it would just start gushing. It was sometimes a little comical lol.

Ill be 32 weeks on Wednesday and feeling good after our little hospital visit over the weekend. No more spotting or contractions and fingers crossed it stays that way! Had a growth scan today and little lady is estimated to be 3lbs3oz so has grown in the last two weeks. Still measuring quite small and the MFM said that if she’s still measuring below the 10th percentile when I’m close to 36 weeks, they most likely will induce me early. So that upped my stress level just a bit with everything we still have to get done! Surprisingly DH has been really calm about it and was REALLY calm on Saturday when I called to see if I should go in. Which I guess is a good thing! I told him I was calling the on call nurse and that he better shower and get ready and his response was “do you really need to call? I’ll shower after I finish this project and make lunch” lol. Hopefully he’s got a little more pep in his step if I actually go into labor! Guess I better tell work I may be on leave sooner than expected and start to get on my managers about who will be taking over my caseload and such. And get a note from mg OB for my leave.
  • Yes we're all getting so close! So exciting.

I will say regarding sleep...I actually found I slept SO MUCH better once baby was born with DS than I did during my last few months of pregnancy. Yes you are woken up a lot overnight to feed, change diapers etc, but when you do get to sleep, you sleep hard and you're not waking up to pee or bc your side is numb. You can sleep in whatever position you want too :) It's all different stages of course, but I say the last month or two of pregnancy sleep is way worse for me than sleeping with an infant. So those who say "sleep now" aren't really remembering how hard it is to sleep this late in Pregnancy I don't think. Either way, we're almost there and then it'll be a blip!
  • @TravelingCouple it's so true the side pain is ridiculous at times that can wake me up first, I'm not a fan but it's been like this since very early on so I'm not that surprised!

@mtpbadger so glad to hear ur feeling and looking good!  I have a friend that had a Lil munchkin and had to be induced early and he's thriving now.  It's good they're keeping a close eye on you!!

@Holls214 sounds like ur not in as much pain as previously which is great! Can't believe you're still working! U go girl!!

  • @TravelingCouple those are my thoughts exactly (because I’m a FTM) that sleeping will be better after he is here because no constant potty breaks and less pain. Sleeping on my back or stomach sounds ahhhmazing right now lol.

really wonder if this Lil one will be early or late!

  • Just left L&D for a check in. Started having shooting back pains at like 5pm tonight and it got way worse so I went in. Apparently I was having contractions as well. They were fairly regular when I got there. They checked and I was 1 cm dialated. Baby is now head down as well. They checked again to make sure I didn’t dialate anymore before leaving and sent me home. The contractions also calmed down. Cervix is thinned. I can tell you that is hurts like a b#$!” when you get your cervix checked for dialation. Like ouch! Gotta go back in a couple days to get checked again. Hopefully this pain gets better and baby stays put. Looks like another late night. Off to try to get some sleep.

  • @Holls214 glad all is well and baby is where he should be! Hope you got some rest!
  • @Holls214 sounds like u had a fun evening NOT! Glad u were released and able to
go home!! Did they say you need to be on bed rest or give u something to stop the contractions.

How often is everyone feeling the baby move? I can't say I get 10/20 kicks an hour, do all of you experience that? I only set 2 hrs so I feel like im waking the baby to move. I'm also noticing the baby seems to be super active every other day, anyone else?

  • @holls214 oh my! Glad the contractions stopped and hopefully that baby stays put for a few more weeks!

@hopeful_mom My OB said to only do kick counts twice a day - usually once in the morning and in the afternoon when baby is usually active anyway and you are sitting and relaxing. I was also told 10 kicks/movement within 2 hours. They are supposedly sleeping 14-18 hours of the day (I think) so I don't think we should feel movement all day long. I've also noticed that if baby has a REALLY active day one day, the next one is fairly quiet
  • Aera11Aera11 member
I'm so glad everything is okay @Holls214!  Hopefully baby boy will stay put for a while longer!
  • @cseley321 Added you! That's a bummer about your doctor and a tough time to have to switch to another!
@Hopeful_mom baby girl is definitely more active some days than others. I chalk it up to her positioning and think that when her feet are tucked a certain way, I probably just don't feel the subtle movements. I know it's hard not to worry though.

  • @Holls214 omg yes getting your cervix checked hurts like @#$(!!! When I was admitted to the hospital last month, I had to squeeze DH's arm when the Dr checked. I realized afterwards I'll probably want to get an epidural, though I would try to go natural as much as possible. Glad you and baby are okay and home!

AFM, I was completely MIA last week. I overextended myself but in the last 11 days, I made it through two baby showers, a volunteer meeting, cleaning the house, two baby prep classes at the hospital, organizing the baby's room, a mom who forgot random stuff, and visiting in-laws. I had a therapist appt this morning and as I was talking she pointed out how I basically said I need to evaluate my expectations with my mom and family members. That was good insight! I'm going to make a list of things I want done during those first few weeks after I deliver - sweeping, dishes, cooking, etc - and then will talk it over with DH and my parents.

The showers were awesome. I was so anxious about someone not hosting one and now it's the complete opposite. We got a ton of stuff including boxes of diapers and now that my in-laws have left, I can go over what we received, if there are duplicates, and what should be exchanged. Why doesn't everyone use the registry?! Minor complaint since a friend got me the carrier I had on my registry but didn't connect her purchase with the registry. Oh well.

So I had a follow-up OB last week and all was well with the baby and even my gestational diabetes. I had another follow-up today (scheduled a week later bc of last month's hospital visit) and whoa, baby had a growth spurt. I'm 30 weeks but baby is measuring at 36. Yikes!! I have a growth scan ultrasound in 2 weeks and then another OB follow-up. We're biweekly for 2 visits and then move to weekly, but if I keep growing too big, I may deliver in June instead of July. Errr yikes! But either way, I'm looking forward to the ultrasound in 2 weeks.
  • Thanks ladies! Can’t lie I kinda panicked just being there with the thought of having the baby. Glad I know what contractions feel like now though I suppose. I go back in on Thursday to get checked again. Nothing about bed rest but basically on home rest.
Last time I was at the doctor I asked about movement and they said when you do feel the baby move you should feel at least 10 movements in that time frame. They said they don’t need to move every hour, just be active when they do move. :)
  • @Hopeful_mom - Lol, I also had a a peeing spell with frequent runs over a few hours, and I think it's a whole bunch of water I was carrying in my body. I actualy felt less swallen afterwards, and better in general.
I too get bloody nose. But I've been quite congested throughout the pregnancy, so I attibute the bloody nose to frequent attempts to clear it out.
And yes, the baby movements are not constant. On some days he's an energizer bunny, and then he has some quiet days. Usually he's more active right when I go to bed, so as long as I can feel him move at those times, I feel re-assured. And when he's super active, it becomes very uncomfortable to be kicked in the same sport over and over again. My dr did a non-stress test last week when I mentioned that the baby was super active for 3 days, and then unusually quiet for 2 following days. Apparently it's normal :)

@mtpbadger - glad to hear that you're feeling better now and the symptomps didn't come back. Hoping your baby picks up the pace and you won't need the early inducing.

@Holls214 - Ouch, I'm not looking forward to those cervix checks... :X Sounds like your body is getting ready! Just need to wait for a few more weeks to make sure baby is grown to term.

AFM, Today is exacly 1 month before the due date! We went to labor & delivery classes over the weekend, and it was very informative, even my husband was all excited about all the info we learned there. He loved the breast-feeding video, and no, not because of all the naked boobs, but because it's somethign that men don't usually understand at all, since there is no need.
During the class, we learned how do deal with pain by hodling a ziplock with ice in a hand for 1 mins with partners trying the distraction and coping techniques. At some point hubby was all jokes, and I said that if he does it during my labor, I'll have to kick him out. The next day he was all upset, imagining how I'd kick him out, and he'll go home, wait there for a number of days, and then I just show up with a baby, both of us upset with each other :X That sounds horrible! I re-assired him that even if I do ask him to leave at any point, it'll mean - for 5 mins out in a hallway, not actually leave the hospital. I guess I'm not the only one having overwhelming baby-related emotions.
I feel like the baby grew A LOT over the weekend, I suddenly feel very pregnant, and my boobs are pretty much resting on the belly bump (and being kicked by the baby) now (and I have long torso to begin with).
We still need to install the car seat, pack a hospital bag. I also want to unpack the stroller and a few other nursery items (diaper pail, etc).
I already talked to my manager that my last day in the office will be May 18th, when I'll work from home exclucively, and then last day working is June 1st (unless baby comes earlier). I'll take sick leave starting then, which will then turn into maternity. Focusing on work is pretty much impossible now, and sitting discomfort is overwhelming.
I'm really looking forward to this Friday - I'll be 36 weeks, and having a positioning ultrasound. Can't wait to see the baby again! At 35 week appointment the dr said that it looks like the baby is finally head down, but it'd be nice to confirm that.
Feeling very grateful that I still can sleep pretty well, although I do get up about every 2 hours to pee, but that doesn't fully wake me up. The best sleep is in the morning, and getting up in the morning is becoming progressively more difficult.

@Holls214 goodness!!! What a scare! Glad you're ok & that baby is still where he needs to be.
@mtpbadger glad all is well with you as well.

I guess this is the reality of the third trimester huh?? Trips to the ER!

@Hopeful_mom I don't have the most active baby...but when it moves, I can usually get to 10 kicks in under 10 minutes. I only count 1x a day. Baby is usually most active around 9 or 10pm, then early morning and after lunch. Otherwise, baby is chilling.
@FuzzyDust getting up in the morning is the worst. I've been rolling into work at around 10:15 lately. I just can't get up earlier, I can't move any faster. I may have to ask to work from home some days.
    @jr102217 yay to the showers!!
@TravelingCouple sleeping on my stomach sounds heavenly. So done with the pain of side sleeping, glad to know sleep will be good once baby is here. :D
  • @jrl02217 you had a crazy week/weekend! Hopefully you can relax now. I had the same issue with my shower - no one purchased stuff off the registry and even when they did, they didn't connect the purchase. So annoying! Whoa that baby has grown! Maybe it was just the way the measurements were taken or the baby's position? Hopefully that baby stays put for a few more weeks!

Sounds like a few of us might be having these babies sooner than expected! Yikes!

AFM - I am getting irritated with work. I told my management at the end of Feb that I was expecting. They said they would "get with me the beginning of June" to discuss coverage of my caseload/position. I reached out to HR at the same time to get information about FMLA, using leave to extend my time off, etc. (I'm planning on taking the full 12 weeks of FLMA unpaid and then tacking on 6 weeks of my saved leave for a total of 18 weeks off) HR sent me back to my management. Now with the due date possibly being sooner than expected, I reached back out to management to set up a meeting for next week to discuss coverage and again ask about what paperwork needs to be done to initiate my leave - they send me to HR! UGH. Like I need this headache to deal with. I'm thinking I'm just going to get a letter from my OB putting me out for 18 weeks following the birth, submitting that to everyone and letting them figure it out if needed to cover my butt. Anyone else having difficulties with their employer about leave??
  • @ReesaAnne16 So excited for you!!! My doula had me stand in front of the sink with my feet shoulder width apart (or wider) and then holding on, pull back into a deep squat. Hold that for as long as you can, then come up and rest for 10 seconds, then go back down and repeat. I was able to get contractions started that way. Also doing circles on an exercise ball. There are a lot of pressure points in your feet and hands too. Have YH press the ones on your feet while you do the hands. Last but not least, essential oils. If you smell clary sage, it can start labor.

I was able to get contractions started, but never progressed due to her head getting stuck in my pelvis.
  • @ReesaAnne16 - home stretch!!! Things I've heard of that might help:
    - sex (both orgasm and semen are supposed to be helpful)
    - walking
    - red raspberry leaf tea
    - dates (6 dates/day)
    - evening primrose oil, 1000mg capsules - orally and/or vaginally (Pop the capsule open with a needle and place it in vaginally, the capsule will also dissolve). I just heard about this one a few days ago.
    - bouncing/hip rolls on a yoga ball
    - nipple stimulation (pretty much the same as what you'd do to get milk going, using either hands or a pump)
    - Acupuncture/acupressure (go to a specialist who is experienced with pregnant women)
    - Bananas (apparently lack of potassium might delay labor, but be careful not to overdo it either)

  • @ReesaAnne16 Yay! You are getting SO close. I have heard walking, sex and bouncing on the yoga ball as well. Did you make lactation cookies or did you buy them?
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.
  • @mtpbadger What a pain.... I would do what you said and just submit it to both and have them figure it out. We have a small HR dept. for such a large company, but they haven't told me if they received my paperwork back from my insurer yet.

  • @FuzzyDust I completely agree that getting up in the morning is getting more and more difficult. I have literally been rolling out of bed super late and still am tired during the day. The cervix check was honestly horrible, I am hoping they don't do another tomorrow at my appt.

I made my own lactation cookies; I used this recipe below but used whole wheat flour, increased the flax seed and brewers yeast by a few tablespoons and used 3 whole eggs instead of 1 egg and 1 yolk. I scooped the dough onto a cookie sheet, froze them separately, and now they are in a bag in the freezer so I can pull out a few at a time to bake. I made the same recipe for a friend who had her baby in Feb and she said they worked amazing!

Ugh I'm sorry @mtpbadger, that sounds like a pain. Hopefully it'll work out!

you're so close @ReesaAnne16! I found a similar lactation cookie recipe; you'll have the keep us posted on how they are!

AFM, we did our hospital tour tonight.  It's really the only thing we've done besides regular appointments.  The girl who did part one had never done one before & seemed unsure but it was pretty obvious what things were.  It was helpful for DH & I to see each room we'd be in so I'm glad we did it.

Those sound yummy! I’ll have to make some to freeze this weekend. Thank you for sharing. We still have to do our hospital tour. It’s a newer hospital so I’m excited about that. We haven’t or won’t do anything other than that prior to birth either.

@Holls214 no birthing classes for us...the baby is coming out one way or another & I honestly don't care how  :). I'm just excited the postpartum rooms are private!
  • @mtpbadger ugh how frustrating! It sounds like you've done everything on ur side so at least your covered and it's their loss if they don't get it together as u can be gone at any moment.

    @ReesaAnne16 can't believe you're so close it's so exciting!! Don't you feel
like at times you were just getting the results of how your cycle went!

@jr102217 welcome back seems like u had a busy week for sure!! Yay for fun showers u deserve it!! Glad your session went well, making lists of expectations is a great idea!!  Do you feel like your bump grew a lot with ur babe. How much does your baby weigh now?

@fuzzydust u are well informed I will have to take note and start trying some if I'm still in the same motion in a few weeks.

@Holls214 holy cervix check batman OMG that did not tickle!!

Had my appt today baby is weighing 5lbs 12oz :) I'm like are sure I'm not closer to 8lbd already  :D OB did a strep test and then the cervix check, and whoah being a born again virgin I can say it was quite unpleasant!! As of now I'm closed and baby is just chilling, he said my cervix is softening and my lining is thinning so my body is apparently doing what it's suppose to.  My mom came with me and all she wanted to hear was I was closed for business right now!! So I go back next week to follow up!  Can't believe I'm officially 9 months.  And dr said just cause everything is good today my water could break tonight or 5 weeks from now.  I looked at him like um 5 weeks no thanks I got a few weeks left in me!!

and thanks to all for the movement input I am finding that the baby seems to be super active every other day so I just need to keep track of it!!

  • So tonight I was busy cleaning baby clothes and really wanted French fries so I ordered a large fry from McDonalds. Once I got home I had only gotten a small fry. The sadness I felt because I have been craving their fries for weeks. Lol. Definitely did not subside my craving. Pregnancy problems.

  • Mmm french fries sound sooo good.. Lunch yesterday was chips and nacho cheese sauce...

I had my 39 week appointment today at 39w2d... still 3cm dilated :/ I'm bummed I didn't make more progress over the last week... maybe the doctor last week overestimated. Decided against having my membranes stripped, but might consider it at my 40w appointment next tuesday. Going back in tomorrow because my BP was borderline for the first time.
