5.5 and 5.6 Weekend Randoms

Its a little late but what's everyone doing this weekend?

Our church had a bake sale after Mass today and I was SO PUMPED about the brownies we bought.  Cut into them after dinner and they are practically raw.  WTAF old ladies?!

Holy crap we were so busy today! Our friends left after staying for 5 days (they were getting their floors redone). We went to a park nearby and walked up the riverbed and found 3 waterfalls...the water was chilly! Then came home and worked in the yard. I was feeling great today and now I am buuussshhhed.
Tomorrow we are finishing up the garden and getting the house ready for the realtor!

  • Spending the weekend at my ILs. My BIL and his wife and kids came over too, so we had fun! My DS (2) loves SILs little boy (7) and followed him around all day! We made a bonfire and had s'mores too. All around just a great day with family! Tomorrow we'll be heading home and will get to see some friends who will be in town from Texas! Can't wait for that!

  • Cleaned the apartment and ordered some stuff we needed (new pots and chairs for our balcony garden and a potty training book, because we are way behind starting the whole potty training process...sigh) and sent out a webseries I wrote to some writer friends for notes/to see if I should try to actually make it or not, but...mostly I have been just continuing to feel like crap and feeling sorry for myself for feeling like crap. I haven't changed out of my pajamas all day and the only thing that doesn't make me feel nauseous is lying still, so I have mostly been doing that. I hate it. I love going outside and doing stuff but every time I try to do that I feel like I'm going to puke. Bleh. This is a whiny pity party, sorry, haha.

@hkom The sadness! Did you finish baking them?

    @morgantu Busy! Get it!

@maureenmce Lying still is awesome. Sorry you’re unproductive too *hugs*

#1 Realized That my bra was on inside out ALL DAY. Gotta love soft bras though, didn’t notice until getting undressed (but puzzled about how I didn’t notice the backwards clasp this morning).

#2 Took carne guisada & tomatillo salsa to a friends Cinco party. I was obviously DDing, but DH let me sample some booze without the look. He’s much more stringent about the “no safe amount of alcohol in pregnancy” than I am.

#3 Tomorrow we only have brunch plans and I hope the restaurant has French toast. Mmm.

I'm gonna try!  I need to figure out how to scrape icing off raw batter...

  • @hkom Hmmm, that sounds like an interesting challenge. Can you lay foil directly on top, like when baking a pie and you don’t want the exposed crust to burn? Also...I don’t think I have ever iced a brownie, it sounds distracting, but is it good?

Don't worry, I fixed it for you ;)
Haha.  I mean I like really fudgy brownies.  But these are legitimately liquid and they still taste raw.  Good for a spoonful, but any more makes me pukey  :s

I mean I like them not-iced typically.  I do like a ganache though - like that dark shiny glaze-y stuff - but just a little bit.  But these were all they had and they looked amazing so I just went for it.  i don't even know how the lady got the icing on these "brownies" they are that liquidy.  I feel like if I put the icing in the oven it will just melt and further ruin the whole thing.  IDK, it will be an experiment.  We'll see...

Nugget got a hot pink Cozy Coupe from my grandparents yesterday for her birthday, and she's obsessed. Hot pink is not typically our thing, but she keeps referring to it as her "Zamboni" and I guess it doesn't matter what color those are as long as they "make a ice smoove!"

Also, I actually found something I can eat more than a spoonful of yesterday and I'm pretty sure I just need to eat nothing but pork adobo for the rest of this pregnancy because it's the first time in a while I actually felt full. Good thing the place around the corner is cheap!
  • Thanks @echo-charlietango and @rosebud332 - I'm feeling ever so slightly more human today, thankfully! I may even go outside, haha.
  • We are having my ILs over for dinner tonight and will be telling them about the baby! I am very excited. I will be 6 weeks tomorrow, so it feels too early, but I have been given some lifting restrictions and am not able to lift or carry DS, which will be very obvious since they watch him 4 days each week. I got DS a big brother shirt with a tractor in it off Amazon and it will be so fun to see their reaction.
  • Yesterday we did some house work, gardening and had yummy fish tacos. Today we had church, went to lunch and for the rest of the day will veg out at home. I’m currently snuggled up with dS and about to fall asleep. I love Sundays.

My husband got hit by a car on Thursday while riding his motorcycle on the freeway. He's doing okay, most of his body is bruised and covered in road rash. He's missing some chunks of flesh in some areas and is unable to walk right now. He is home so I'm just taking care of him plus taking care of 2 toddlers alone. Plus I'm in a stage where I'm just so exhausted I just want to sleep. Sooo... rough weekend

@asun123 how scary! i’m glad he’s ok. I can’t imagine having all that responsibility right now. just functioning as a human being is difficult in first tri

  • @asun123 Ouch. I hope he gets better soon, and that you can get some rest yourself soon too.

We went out shopping yesterday. I don’t buy myself clothes very often, but I decided to get a couple things. One is a cute sweater that was on sale for $9 at Macy’s. It’s a bit large, but not in too frumpy of a way. I’ll just keep getting bigger though, right? The other thing I got is a fun strapless, capri style romper. It has no extra give in the belly area, so I imagine I’ll only be able to wear it for another month. It was cute, and fit surprisingly well (I don’t usually buy trendy clothes like that). I guess it’s good incentive to lose the baby weight too. Today is a stay at home day, but I might go for a walk later. It’s nice outside.
  • Not too much going on here this weekend. I stayed up too late to watch Logan with H last night, and then of course the babe had a random wake-up at 4:30, booooo. Luckily it wasn't too difficult to deal with, but I had trouble getting to sleep afterward. Up at 6:30 as per usual, and so I've been napping on and off. But I also got a run-walk in.

Currently the child is 3 minutes away from refusing his second nap, sigh. Aaaaand it looks like he threw his blankie and bear out of the crib again. 2-1 nap transition needs to happen, stat.

Thank you for listening to another episode of The Sleep Struggles of the Crayon Family.

@asun123 that sounds so scary! And rough for you.

Yesterday was really busy and I was feeling good, until later in the day I started throwing up after dinner at a Cinco de Mayo party and nearly outed the pregnancy to family.

Today we brought out the patio furniture (yay finally having warm weather!) but I had to bail on other activities because I’m so dizzy and queasy. I’m trying to remind myself that n/v are actually good signs for pregnancy health but blergh.

  • @PensiveCrayon We made the transition pretty recently. Sometimes it’s rough when she only sleeps two hours and there’s a big gap between nap and bedtime, but nap time is much less stressful for me now because she ALWAYS takes that one nap. It became easier than fighting her all the time.

@asun123 So Sorry about your husband! I hope he has a speedy recovery. That is too scary.

  • @Rosebud2587 Two hours would be ideal over here! A has never been great at naps, and right now his cumulative nap time during the day is around two hours total. The good news is that I'll be able to put him down for bed an hour early tonight!

  • @asun123 Yikes! I'm happy he's okay, but sorry that you just lost an ambulatory adult! I just hate that so many drivers lack reasonable caution. (DH sold his bike years ago and I am so thankful that he did)

@tumbleweed-1 Yay! I'm slowly buying things too. Some for later, some for now. I need to work on my closet this week and remove all of the blouses I don't fit into anymore, and visit some thrift shops for larger shorts. I'm already mourning my normal size and putting it all away :bawling:

@PensiveCrayon Did your little Crayon finally nap? What's funny is that I want a nap, but don't think I can because now I'm all jazzed from drinking a grape soda

My toddler was a bit of a jerk yesterday, but today he has a fun day with my MIL while I went to look at cars. I’m finally going to donate my ancient Saturn and get something that actually moves before the gas pedal is touching the floor. I’m excited.
we also told my MIL I’m pregnant and it’s so funny to see the drop in enthusiasm compared to the announcement of our last kid, who was the first grandchild. Now that he’s  here and my SIL is pregnant and due this summer, it looks like I can totally fly under the radar.
  • @asun123 I  I am sorry about your husband accident! I hope he recovers quickly and that the kids don’t give yli too tough of a time.

@PensiveCrayon  when my son was about a-year-old he starting only taking  20- 30 minute naps. Once we transitioned him to one nap he started sleeping 2-2.5 hours. Good luck!
  • @asun123 I’m so sorry! I hope he recovers quickly and the littles take it easy on you.

  • @katzalia sooo jealous of the patio furniture! DH and I would love to just sit outside but we don't have any, and have other things to worry about before even thinking of getting patio furniture :'(

@asun123 omg I'm so sorry to hear your DH was in an accident! So so glad that his injuries aren't worse, I hope he recovers quickly!

@echo-charlietango my criteria included fairly cheap (used, less than $11000), awd, and a “regular car” (not an SUV). I’m going to go with a 2009 BMW 328 x drive that I found on Craigslist.
I was also considering a Nissan Rogue even though it’s more of an SUV, but the ones I kept finding didn’t have leather interiors which is a must for me and kids with all the mess.
I’m not into new cars or making payments on cars and I’d rather just roll up to somebody’s driveway and hand them a check.
  • whaatwhaat member
I wish I could do something more fuel efficient but I’m really excited about having all wheel drive after floating and skidding around on ice and snow in my Saturn for 10 years.
  • @whaat I hope the BMW works out for you! I also prefer regular cars over SUVs, but haven’t purchased a vehicle from Craigslist yet (I’m sure I will one day).
