Re: First Time Mom Check-In 5.1

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
According to my ultrasound today I'm 7w6d but keeping my EDD of December 14th!

    2. Any appointments this week?
Yes! I finally had an appointment today with a TV ultrasound. All looks good! I feel like I can relax a little now! Next one will be toward the end of the month.

    3. Symptoms?
Not really. I was starving today though, despite constantly eating. I've also had a little mild cramping the last few days.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
Nope! for once all is well. I'm sure the anxiety and worry will come back soon but trying to embrace the euphoria while I can!

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?
Wine. Definitely the wine. I even asked my doctor today how bad it would be after the first trimester to have the occasional glass. He said his professional opinion was a no go. He said there wasn't enough research done and so he could only give the recommendation of either alcohol or no alcohol, so he goes with no alcohol...

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
7weeks 5 days new due date of 14th dec

    2. Any appointments this week?
Had my first scan yesterday (1st of may for me) was my mum's birthday and she came with me such a beautiful moment

    3. Symptoms?
The nausea is in full force now I have to make sure to  eat before bed otherwise I wake up in the middle of the night soo nauseous
    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
I am fine now I've seen my baby It was like now I really do feel pregnant

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

Energy!! God I'm looking forward to the second trimester I've heard that's when your energy picks back up I miss not needing so much sleep everything exhausts me lately
  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
7-2/3 by ultrasound, but keeping 12/12 for now

    2. Any appointments this week?
Nope, waiting for the 15th! Feels like forever.

    3. Symptoms?
Invisible nausea is definitely worse in the afternoon than evening, still trying to find my magic blend of protein or carbs to make it go away. Boobs are dense and sensitive, bloat is keeping me away from my fitted jackets

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

I’m concerned that the things that help my tum (ginger ale, candied ginger) are wrecking my teeth & oral health. Normally I avoid soda & candy but still get cavities.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

I miss drinking at weddings, and being able to control my flatulence  DH is getting used to hearing my butt trumpet though. I’ve warned him that I will be sharing more things so that if/when I poop during delivery it won’t be a total shock. I’ll go back to being ladylike when my pelvic floor recovers.

@echo-charlietango I am so bloated too. I'm an athlete so it's very strange for me!
  • @gabigooski just relax and enjoy the scan I was a bundle of anxiety and nerves with all kinds of stupid thoughts running through my head like what if I get there and there's no baby etc but I went in and within a few minutes there was my lil nugget perfectly fine

    1. When is your EDD/how far along?

8 weeks 5 days, EDD is Dec. 7 -- very close to  @gabigooski

    2. Any appointments this week?

I had my first scan yesterday, which went well.  I don't have another appointment until May 29.

    3. Symptoms?

Queasiness and trouble sleeping, as evidenced by this 4:30am post.  My dr gave me a sample of bonjesta to try, which is basically B6 and Unisom.  I feel like taking it is admitting defeat and am worried I will want to take it all the time.  I know it's supposed to be safe, I just don't like the idea of taking it all the time.  I should probably just try it.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

I'm nervous about the NT scan at the end of the month now.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

I miss wine and not being anxious all the time.

@donnawicks Glad your scan went well yesterday too.  How nice that your mom got to go with you on her birthday.

    1. When is your EDD/how far along?
    I am 9+1 today!  EDD December 4.

    2. Any appointments this week?
Nope!  Not until May 25, which seems like an eternity...

    3. Symptoms?
My boobs have already increased at least a cup size (ugh).  I broke down and bought a few new bras the other day after I looked in a parked car window as I was passing and saw I had MAJOR quad-boob.  Anxiously awaiting their arrival in the mail.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

This is kind of combined with Question 3.  I know I've said it seemingly a thousand times in other threads, but a lot of my more intense symptoms (mainly nausea and fatigue) have pretty much dissolved.  I still do get very tired in the evenings.  I know that it doesn't necessarily mean anything but it still freaks me out.  I've also had brown spotting for the past week (only really noticeable when I use the bathroom or a tiny bit in my undies if I'm moving around a lot).  My husband thinks its from the TV ultrasound last week because they were pretty rough and I was sore for the rest of the day.  I have kind of a sensitive cervix anyway so I hope that's it.

We had a great appointment last week but I just can't shake the fear that everything is just going to stop and I won't know it (thanks, front-page MC article from yesterday).  Waiting until the 25th is going to be brutal.  I'm still having lots of RLPs and my lower abdomen feels a little poochier, I just wish there were more definite signs at this stage that everything is still growing in there.  I had no idea I would be such an anxious pregnant lady.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

I'm going to jump in with everyone else and say WINE.  Also I heard my neighbor say the word "margaritas" yesterday and I almost cried.

    BabyFruit Ticker

  • @hkom I'm not a fan of margaritas but I could go for a mojito on a hot day...  B)

  • @hkom +1 for being the anxious pregnant lady! I'll get some good news and be pretty optimistic for a day or two. Then the doubts start again and I feel like something (everything?) is wrong and baby bean just stopped growing! I haven't had many symptoms at all throughout the pregnancy, so I'm right there with you!

    1. When is your EDD/how far along?

    EDD 12/1, so 9 weeks 4 days!

    2. Any appointments this week?
I have my first OB appointment on Friday for an US! I can't wait! I'm nervous to meet the OB b/c it's a new practice for me, and this is the longest I've gone without any updates on baby bean, so of course, my anxiety is reeling!

    3. Symptoms?
Not many. Extreme fatigue. Gagging when I brush my teeth, and increased facial hair growth (which is totally gross)!

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

    Nothing really at the moment.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

@donnawicks +1 for missing my energy! I feel like a zombie most of the day!
@kadeephd +1 for missing not being anxious all the time!
Those really are the 2 biggest things I miss right now!

@donnawicks , @kadeephd , and @nerdeebird Glad you all had great appointments yesterday!!

@gabigooski I hope today goes by quickly for you so you can get to your scan! I wish I had advice to help you calm down, but I guess, just think happy thoughts!! (I know, not much help!)

  • @hkom ! I want to have a margarita bar for our 10th anniversary  (DH and I eloped on a cruise ship in Mexico, because we both have big opinionated families and were not ready to buy them all booze. Our 4th anniv is coming up, so I have time to save money and plan my booze bar)

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
My EDD is December 18 so I am about 7 weeks.

    2. Any appointments this week?
I had my first appointment yesterday with a TV ultrasound and I was relieved to see our little bean in there with a very strong heartbeat! Doctor was very pleased but due to my complicated history, I am going to have a second ultrasound in two weeks to make sure things are progressing.

    3. Symptoms?
Nausea is becoming worse by the day. I haven't actually thrown up but I feel like I am on the verge all day long. Eating doesn't help, not eating doesn't help. I am constantly checking where the closest bathroom is, just in case!

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

    None right now!

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregnancy life?

I am pleasantly surprised that I don't actually miss wine yet! I am visiting my bff this weekend for Cinco de Mayo though and am disappointed I won't be able to have margaritas with her now. Thankfully I am basically my own boss because I miss my work productivity, haha, I'll get halfway through a project and think of something I NEED to google about pregnancy and am sucked down a rabbit hole!
  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?

5 weeks, 3 days - so a bit earlier than you all here, hope its still ok to post!  December 30 is my EDD

    2. Any appointments this week?

Have my second ultrasound and some more bloodwork on Friday morning - hoping to see a bit more in the US than we did last week!

    3. Symptoms?

Tender boobs and they are definitely growing!  Emotional, slightly nauseous - it comes and goes.  No vomiting but lots of dry heaving.  Discovered last night that the smell of cooking chicken was enough to make me heave! (honestly just thinking about it is making me feel the same lol).  I'm starting to have to pee like every hour.  Just some minor cramping/pinching/pulling.  Last night my lower back was killing me and I freaked out but was able to reassure myself it was normal (no bleeding or spotting)

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

Anytime I'm symptom free for even a minute I get scared!  But I think I'm getting used to the nausea especially coming and going.  I have a feeling I'll get hit with it harder in another week or two!  Just nervous about my appt on Friday, totally scared there won't be anything there when they look!  But trying to keep calm and positive!  Its also been super hard keeping it from friends and family.  We've had a lot of fertility issues the last two years so we decided to keep things underwraps until we are into our 8/9th week (still waiting until 12/13 weeks to make any general announcements).    I had to get through my best friends bachelorette party last weekend using fake alcohol (white grape juice works wonders for anyone needing a tip!) and an attempt at hiding some nausea lol.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

I'm totally in the "I miss wine!" group lol.  My sister in law is actually pregnant as well - she's around 20 weeks - and her doctor was pretty lax on the alcohol thing.  She was like if you want a glass at an event have one, if you want a beer at a picnic go for it - one drink isn't going to cause harm, you just dont want to have 2 or 3 or more than one a week.  I'm curious what my doctor will say, I haven't asked yet since, while I miss it, the nausea is definitely not making me want to pick up a glass anytime soon lol.
  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
    I think I'm 7w, 2d, but I'll confirm today!

    2. Any appointments this week?
In less than 2 hours! Eeeee! So excited (and nervous) to see the heartbeat.

    3. Symptoms?
Lots of gas (burping and farting) which has apparently caused cramps and not quite nausea but not feeling like my tummy feels 100%. Then I burp and it's better, lol. Sensitive nipples, my boobs are so full (more round, ha!) but no soreness yet. One of my favorite blouses is super tight and barely fits since it doesn't stretch. Occasional cramping and occasional round ligament pain (I think), that's usually on the right but sometimes on the left too. Major fatigue (though that lifted today and I actually exercised!) Super emotional last night. First crying because of sadness then my husband made me a warm pack for my back and I cried even harderbecause he was so sweet.)

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
No real concerns at this point. Just anxiety about if I'll see a heartbeat or not.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

I already didn't drink, so I'm ok there. But I LOVEEEE coffee and it's been hard having only one cup a day. I actually felt like coffee sounded super gross this morning, so I'm having tea instead. :)
  • @amers271 Good luck with your appointment today!

    Dec 6 - 8w6d

    2. Any appointments this week?
    Nope, nothing until 5/14 :(

    3. Symptoms?
Feeling pretty good.  Still tired, took a 2 hour nap at 6 last night only to go back to bed at 9:30.
I'm kinda lightheaded/dizzy today - maybe my pants are just too tight.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
Hoping this lightheaded thing isn't a symptom that sticks around.  I'd rather be nauseous

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

  • @nerdeebird so glad you had a good appointment!  I'm with you on the wine; I passed it on the endcap in the grocery and made an audible groan before I caught myself.  And last night I actually had dreams of alcohol...I wasn't a lush or anything but I guess not being allowed to have it makes it worse.

@donnawicks that's so sweet your mom got to go to the scan with you.

@echo-charlietango have you tried ginger tea?  I picked some of that up over the weekend and it's been helping when my stomach feels off.

@hkom My RE keeps warning after every TV that it can cause some spotting and not to worry.  Just a product of all the extra blood we have rushing to the area. At almost 9 weeks I will say my only really persistent symptom is the evening fatigue.

@amers271 good luck at the scan!!

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
    7 weeks something?

    2. Any appointments this week?
Had an appt today with my doctor. They did a urine test and we just talked for a long time. Set up an ultrasound for next Tuesday. (I was so hoping to see the heartbeat today!) He doesn't deliver babies anymore so he gave me a brochure for his suggested place/person based on my desires (might try to be med free, but not sure, def want all the bells and whistles close by if I want an epidural or if we need intensive care, etc. Think I'd stress out about a home birth or somewhere away from a hospital.)

    3. Symptoms?
Sensitive nipples, smell has been a big one for awhile but it's just starting to be smells that I don't like too much (like the meatloaf I had for lunch... the kitchen now smells AWFUL), bloating, gas, fatigue.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
Not really, other than seeing the heartbeat! I'm sooooo ready for that relief.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

Not being tired all the time.
:D Raw fish. But both my nutritionist and doctor said I could have raw fish, but not to get like grocery store sushi that's been on the shelf for awhile. I have to go to a nice restaurant that makes it right away. So... guess that's on the menu this week. :)

    3. Symptoms?
omg the bloat is real today. My appetite is on and off. A bit of cramping. Constipation. Boob pain. A bit of tiredness and hidden nausea.
    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

    A. See my other posts about my HCG test. No huge reason to be concerned at this point but I am anyway. I just need the reassurance (or to know if something is wrong).
    B. Wondering if I’m going to be terribly anxious this whole time.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

A good cocktail or glass of wine. DH and I are going on a short cruise next week and I’m a bit bummed I can’t drink. Oh well

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
I've only used generators thus far so I believe I'm due somewhere between Dec 13 & Christmas Day. I'm about 6 - 8 weeks.

    2. Any appointments this week?
No - but I've finally been able to be paired with a midwife so my first appointment with her is scheduled for the end of the month (10-12 week mark).

    3. Symptoms?
Last week, I had lots of morning sickness, spending the first 15 minutes of each day basically over the toilet. I didn't even want to eat, and was forcing myself to. That's calmed down, I just have some underlying nausea and the cravings are beginning - so eating has been better, though I do get full fast. I've started getting dizzy and lightheaded as well, and exhaustion comes and goes. I might be having mood swings? But I feel like I'm pretty dramatic in general...

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

I apologize for how long this comment is - I have been pretty nervous about all the medical "stuff".

I just moved to my province (state in Canadian terms), and so I didn't have a health card or family doctor, and unfortunately my rural area doesn't have walk in clinics. I'm grateful about finding a midwife, but they are located pretty far away (over an hour drive). It might be too impractical, but my local midwives are already full for December mommas. If we're finding it too wild we might have to rethink that plan.

Now I have my health card, but I still need a doctor to refer me to get my dating / first ultrasound (unless I want to wait a month...who does?!). I might just try the ER, or drive into the bigger city (where my midwife is) and do a walk in there.

I think once I see my baby on an ultrasound / hear a heartbeat I'm just going to feel such relief and all this worry will be a distant memory.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

I haven't really started missing anything yet, I'm honestly just very giddy. I am struggling keeping my pregnancy secret from loved ones (just hubby and I know right now). I'm just toying with when to reveal it / if I want to wait until after the first trimester or maybe do a Mother's Day surprise for our Moms. I'm just a horrible secret keeper, but I do enjoy the privacy the hubby and I have to celebrate right alone right now.

  • @echo-charlietango have you tried ginger tea?  I picked some of that up over the weekend and it's been helping when my stomach feels off.
I have tried, as best I can. Normally I am a serious tea fiend, but the thought of any hot herbal water just makes me want to puke. Fitting that my one real adversion is towards my favorite daily ritual. I managed to get down some iced & sweetened spearmint tea, but that was pushing it :disappointed:

  • @katem987 I'm with you on being worried about being anxious the entire time. For me I think the anxiety is centered around making sure it's still progressing and little nugget is there and ok. I'm hoping that once I reach the stage where I can regularly feel the baby move that will really help a lot.
  • @echo-charlietango I'm so sorry.  That's horrible you're having an aversion to tea!  And of course that'll probably get better around the time the stomach gets better and ginger tea wouldn't do you any good.

    2. Any appointments this week?  No, next one is not until the 15th.

    3. Symptoms? Have had on and off headaches the past couple days. Not much else other than feeling bloated, tired, and hungry more often.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

Not concerned now, but was a little last night. Might be a little tmi, but my SO and I had sex last night, which is not the first time since I've been pregnant. The only thing that was different about this one was when I went to the bathroom afterwards, I noticed a light pink discharge. Scared the crap out of me, but after going through some pregnancy forums, I saw it was pretty common. I will still bring it up on my next appointment, but I know it's nothing to worry about!

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

    Nothing really..
  • 1. When is your EDD/How far along?
9 weeks and 3 days. I'm excited for double digits next week!

    2. Any appointments this week?
First OB appointment is May 8th. I am so excited and also so terrified. I have been having a lot of thoughts that baby isn't doing well. I don't do great with emotions when hormones are involved.

    3. Symptoms?
Morning sickness is bad one day, then fine the next, then bad, then fine. It follows that pattern, which overall isn't an awful pattern. I haven't vomited and I don't expect that at this point I will, but the MS is definitely not my favorite. My areolas are itchy, which is a silly symptom, but my boobs seem the same size and don't hurt. I'm also exhausted all the time. I feel like my coworkers think I stay up all night and my boss thinks I'm lazy/bored by him lol. The worst symptom has probably been the emotions. I don't do well with hormonal fluctuations when I'm not pregnant. It is very typical for me to get very anxious or depressed during my cycle, especially around the time I ovulate. To be perfectly honest with you ladies, I've had horrible apathy about this pregnancy and about my own life a couple times. I have a phenomenal support system and training as a therapist so I can recognize and handle these thoughts appropriately, but it still sucks. I also really feel like I'm going to get awful news about baby at my US next week. Not sure if that's the hormones or mother's intuition. I guess we shall see. But, if you are also experiencing some really tough emotions due to hormones, just know I feel ya, girl. I'm right there with you.

    4. Questions? Concerns?
Not really right now. I'm trying to patiently await my US on the 8th.

    5. What do you miss about pre-pregnancy life?
Not being so conscious of everything I do and how it affects baby. I've lightened up quite a bit on things since Week 5, but I still think about it. Also, challenging myself at yoga. I take it easy when what I really want to do is stretch the crap out of my body. Oh, and a lack of nausea. I miss that lol

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
I’m 6 weeks and 6 days with an EDD aid December 22nd

    2. Any appointments this week?
None this week— first ultrasound is May 14th

    3. Symptoms?
Lots of bloating and gas; abdominal aches/feeling of fullness; nausea but no vomiting; exhaustion; emotional/easily crying

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?
I’m having similar anxiety as @hkom— I keep worrying that one day the symptoms will just stop or I’ll go into my ultrasound and there won’t be anything there.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?
I‘m not much of a drinker, so I can’t really relate to the wine club.  I LOVE tea but have decided to not have caffeine during my pregnancy, so that’s been rough the last three weeks!

@nerdeebird I do feel better now that I know the HCG was going up appropriately. Still nervous for our first US. I think once I get to 2nd tri it will be better.
Confession: We haven’t had sex since this bean was conceived. I’ve had less than a zero sex drive and generally feel like crap. I’m going to try to make an effort on our trip but
    ugh.

Ha! Don't feel too bad, I think that's totally normal.  I had to psyche myself up a bit last night cuz it had been a while for us too (nothing crazy, but certainly longer than our usual).  I know it's hard but for what it's worth, I've been finding that once we get started, it takes the pressure off and I relax a little bit and I always end up enjoying it and being glad I pushed myself even if I wasn't feeling it at first.  Maybe there is a time of day that you aren't as exhausted you could try?  I know morning sex isn't everyone's thing but I almost always tend to feel better then.  For me, I've really been struggling to be in the mood in the evenings. Once I get myself ready for bed, I'm ready to go to SLEEP, not to spend another half hour doing physical activity haha.

*Edit:  My spotting had started to taper off yesterday, but of course we went and had sex last night so now it will probably decide to show back up.  Yaayyyyy....

  • 1. When is your EDD/how far along?
9 wks and a day/Dec 7th although my mom is hoping for Dec 4th, her birthday.

    2. Any appointments this week?
First appt, FINALLY, this coming Friday May 11th. We found out 3 wks ago and it feels likes it been an absolute eternity.

    3. Symptoms?
    Nausea and feeling riduculously tired.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

Joining the band wagon....scared this will all be taken away if we dont see a heartbeat. Ive been fortunate to have minor cramping but no spotting at all. The nausea seemed to disappear the second day after we hit 8 weeks. Im paranoid. My boobs arent sore anymore and now Im questioning whether I still feel pregnant anymore. Im trying not to stress about it but its hard. What if theres no heartbeat. Im trying to stay hopeful.

Same as everyone else. Wine, Margaritas & Mojitos. Btw, if anyone has a Marcaroni Grill near them, they have a GREAT non alcoholic mojito called Nojito. I order it every time and can say I actually enjoy it more than your traditional mojito.

@binxybaby This sounds very tough and I'm sorry you are going through this.  For what it's worth, this has been an emotional roller coaster for me too and it's hard when most people don't know what is going on.  It's been nice to have this forum to talk to others going through similar things.  Hugs.

    1. When is your EDD/how far along?

    EDD is 12/17.  I’m 7w5d.

    2. Any appointments this week?

My my first appointment is coming up on the 10th.  I’m super anxious but also excited about it.

    3. Symptoms?

Lots of bloating and my nipples feel like they are in a vice.

    4. Any questions/concerns/etc?

Currently trying to figure out wether or not it’s ok to wear chemical sunscreen while pregnant.  The internet is giving me mixed results and I’m on vacation in Florida spending a lot of time by the pool.  I burn super easy and mineral sunscreen isn’t very waterproof so I’m taking my chances right now but still wish I could have a clear answer on it.  This is one reason I wish my doctor didn’t wait till 8 weeks for your first appointment.  I have all these questions and I’m just scared I’m fucking up in the mean time.

    5. GTKY: What do you miss most about pre-pregancy life?

Being able to wear clothes comfortably and not having to worry about every little thing I do.
  • @beccaneu Re: Sunscreen

I have a creeping feeling that my OB would advise against tanning, and would recommend light breezy layers with ordinary sunscreen applied where needed. I would avoid tanning and only lay out in the shade. Happy vacation!

  • Sorry to be stalking here but @beccaneu I generally stay away from the chemical stuff even while not pregnant, and just set reminders to reapply every hour. Honestly the best thing to do is to stay out of the direct sun though. #partypooper #skincancerawareness

@beccaneu we’re going to Miami and on a cruise next week. I plan on bringing a hat and long sleeved cover up and staying in the shade when possible.

  • @echo-charlietango oh, I’m definitely not tanning.  I just burn super easy, even in the shade with layers on  :/

@runrinserepeat yeah I figured.  I generally avoid the sun as much as possible but it’s near impossible when walking around anywhere in Florida.

    @katem987 Enjoy your cruise  :)

@beccaneu thanks! I hope I do - I’ve been feeling really crappy lately and I’m hoping I’ll be okay. It’s just 3 nights so that’s not bad.
