Anyone who has opted for genetic testing on embroyos but was advised transfer on day 3

Had retrieval yesterday with 7 follicles (but 4 with eggs). Was informed today that out of the 4 eggs only 2 fertilized. Now the nurse indicated I may have a transfer on Tuesday which is very strange given that we opted for genetic testing(which I thought takes couple of weeks). I wanted to talk to the doctor and she indicated that no decision could be taken till Tuesday. Any pointers on what could be going on because honestly I dont know what would lead them to cancel the genetic testing?

Re: Anyone who has opted for genetic testing on embroyos but was advised transfer on day 3

  • My guess is they are concerned these may not all make it to blast stage or would survive better in utero than in the lab. They are essentially saying to transfer without testing. You can tell them you still want to do testing on them and not transfer. They may tell you that you risk not having anything for testing. I’m so sorry it’s so confusing. Hope they have more insight for you soon

  • Thank you. Somehow with all the research I did, I didn't even know fresh transfer was a scenario.

Like @dragonette505 said, if the transfer on day 3 it means they will not test these embryos. Basically from day 3 to day 5 most embryos don’t survive. So if you choose to wait to day 5 you might have nothing to test and if you transfer on day 3 you might get pregnant with abnormal embryo.

So either way you choose you will have a risk.

I recently had this same dilemma and I chose to transfer what I had on day 3. ** TW *** I’m now pregnant. But still don’t know if the embryo is normal or not. **end TW***

Actually fresh transfer is the norm (though I’ve never done one).
