Hey, y'all! This is a check-in for those of us that are high risk. Whether you've known from the beginning or were just told, this a place to get some extra support. High Risk pregnancies bring an added level of stress and fear to an already stressful time, so use this as your safe space. It should go without saying, but I will, a lot of this thread thread will be TW, so there is no need to use them. We've either all been through this or are navigating together. So let's support each other as we navigate the craziness of a high risk pregnancy.
1. How far along are you? EDD?
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out?
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Re: High Risk Check In w/o 4/24
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? Twins!! Plus I have preexisting hypertension. I was 6 weeks when I found out we were having twins although I had a good feeling. We conceived via IVF and had transfer 2 embryos
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. Lots and lots of monitoring. I will see my OB and I will follow with MFM as well. Ultrasounds at every appt which ends up being every 2 weeks right now. Starting at 30 weeks I will have twice weekly NSTs and weekly BPPs until delivery. Hope they don’t get sick of me!!
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. I’m doing pretty good at the moment actually. Nausea is practically gone and I’m starting to get more energy. The last few weeks were rough so I’m glad to have some relief. My back is killing me already. It’s gonna be a long pregnancy.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? I would love to be a wedding planner! I think that would be so fun! Right now I’m a scrub tech in labor and delivery. I really enjoy my job but the long hours, weekends and holidays get old.

1. How far along are you? EDD? 9w today!
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? I'm high risk because I developed a DVT from BCP back in college (10 years ago) and need to be on blood thinners throughout my pregnancy and for several months postpartum. If I develop another DVT, I'll need to be on blood thinners for the rest of my life
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. All of it... extra monitoring, consultations with hematologist, perinatologist and OBGYN, early delivery induction...
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. After our struggles with infertility and loss, I would be lying if I said I wasn't thrilled just to be here, regardless of all the extra appointments
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? I know this is so random for a child, but I wanted to be a pediatrician.
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? always high risk from the get go due to my history of pre term labor.
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. I get extra monitoring, pretty much get ultrasounds every appointment, start weekly appointments at 30 weeks and start checking for dilation at 32 since that always seems to be when i start. Bed rest usually starts around 32 as well. I don’t even need them to tell me I automatically restrict myself as soon as I find out because I never want to do anything to bring it on. I opted to not do shots with my second because we weren’t sure if my first was a fluke but the second came earlier than the first so I will defitnitelty do them this time.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. i am fine, I am used to this now so it is the norm for me when I’m pregnant. I feel a little more confident this time though knowing we will be doing the shots
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? I always wanted to do graphic design but ended up hating it. I am in management for a grocery store chain and LOVE it.
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? currently carrying twins; also previous history of baby born intrauterine growth restricted and oligohydramnios (low amniotic fluid). both were addressed at first prenatal appointment 8w4ds, twins were discovered at the very end of the appointment during the first dating ultrasound.
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. extra monitoring both at ob and with mfm doctor, ultrasounds at all appointments, early delivery. the first ultrasound tech we spoke with said they looked like they could be identical twins in the same chorion, so the mfm doc will have to determine if they might also be sharing a placenta and/or an amniotic sac. either of those scenarios will put them at even higher risk.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. ok for now. still waiting for mfm to call about appointment (mentioned this in the mon bf thread, have been waiting over a week for their call)- i called them this morning and forced to leave message and got a recording to expect a return call within 48 hours. so more waiting i guess.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? a stage actor; not for the fame, more for the comradery and exhilaration of live performance.
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? I had a previous preterm baby, have a misshapen uterus...oh and TWINS! I knew I was high risk going into this pregnancy, but now the twins thing is another twist. I found out about the twins today.
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. I will be delivering no later than 38 weeks. Monthly ultrasounds, meeting with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, weird extra vitamins, who knows what else.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. Freaking out.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? I wanted to train racehorses. Now I wish I had become a doctor. I work in marketing.
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? I've had two pre-term births, have hypertension, and I'm apart of the over 40 club. I did IVF, so I've known since day 1 I would be high risk.
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. At this point, I am just meeting with the MFM dr and my OB. Appointments are monthly, but I am in one of the offices every two weeks. I am still taking my IVF meds (progesterone and estradiol). It's my understanding I will start the Makena shot at 16 weeks.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. I am extremely fatigued. I have ZERO energy. I fell asleep at the light last week. My day falls apart if I'm not in bed asleep by 830/9 which is humanly impossible with a very active teen.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? I wanted to model which I had the privilege of doing, but stopped very early on because modeling + kids is very difficult!

2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out?
I have hypertension that I have had since before my first pregnancy and only got worse. Also my age. I will be 39 when the baby is born. I have also gone through 4 years of secondary infertility
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc.
Right now, I am seeing an RE and I get a scan every week. I also have to take my BP twice a day and send in the results every week. I also found out my OB wants me to do the 24 hour urine test this week.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post.
so everything is great! I actually feel fine and except for being super tired all the time, I feel pretty normal. Every ultrasound has looked great with the baby growing on track and a strong hb.
However, after today's US my PGAL brain has gone into overdrive. All the pictures look like the baby barely has any room in there. Like the sac is very small. The doctor didn't say anything about it. In fact, she look an extra amount of time to watch the baby's movement. I didn't notice it until I really looked at the pictures. Now, I am not sure if that is something I need to be concerned about. I can share a picture here just to show you what I mean. What do you ladies think?
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up?
I am already grown and a teacher! However, I always have dreams of being the next Food Network star or Joanna Gaines. Also wouldn't mind being a professional artist.
10+ weeks, due date is 11/18
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out?
I'm diabetic and I have a history of preterm labor
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc.
Progesterone shots starting at 16 weeks, weekly cervical length scans, and we'll go from there!
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post.
I'm okay. Tired all the time and trying to get ready for DS bday party this weekend. Just thinking about party prep is exhausting.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up?
I always wanted to be a teacher, and I'm a teacher! I've been contemplating a career change in the future. I'd like to go back to school to get my masters and see what career path I could change to with my current degree as a base.
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? I found out at my first prenatal appt few weeks ago because of preterm delivery history with my daughter in 2016
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. I'm seeing my OB and MFM doctor monthly. First appt with MFM is tomorrow!
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. I'm nervous, but trying to stay calm. Oh and exhausted... all of the time.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? A flight attendant! Random, I know...
11w3d. 11/11
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out?
I had cholestasis with ds. It is pretty rare (1 in 1,000 pregnancies). I have a 60 to 90% chance to get it again, earlier than I did with ds. I went yesterday to get lab work as my itching went from tolerable to I want to crawl out of my skin. I haven't officially been declared high risk yet, but I see my dr about every 3 weeks.
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc.
Depending on my lab work will depend on my protocol. I had a very scary/hard time with ds. I will have NSTS 2x per week and once weekly BPPs. It will just depend on how early I start them. I figure around 23-25 weeks, depending on when I get my official dx. I will also deliver early, no later than 37 weeks. I delivered ds at 35 weeks because my liver enzymes were over 900. My goal is to make it to at least 30 weeks, them go one week at a time.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post.
I'm really nervous/scared that my ICP is back much sooner than anticipated. ICP runs a higher risk of still birth and the bile acids can calcify (sp?) the placenta. Either way there is nothing I can do now, so I'm just trying to remember that babies are strong and I have an iron will, lol.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to open a therapeutic riding center and do equine facilitated psycho therapy. Right now I'm a SAHM.
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? I have a mechanical mitral valve, and I knew before I got pregnant that I would be high risk. I take blood thinners all the time but have had to switch type while I'm pregnant.
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. I am under the care of the high risk team at my local hospital. I am seeing them monthly at this stage, but that will move to fortnightly and then weekly as my pregnancy progresses. I'm also being monitored by my cardiologist, and having visits with them every six weeks. I'll also be delivering at 38 weeks, most likely with an epidural and forceps or ventouse to minimise pain and pushing.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. I'm lucky that I generally feel healthy and pregnancy hasn't been too hard on me (some nausea but no vomiting, feeling tired but still able to function). I have to inject my blood thinner twice daily which is kind of a PITA and my stomach is all shades of purple! Otherwise, I've had more scans than I otherwise would have which is kind of great - love getting to see that bubba. Feeling a bit anxious but I think that is me in general rather than the high risk nature of my pregnancy.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? This is a great question! I'm a lawyer, but if I had my time again, I think I'd love to do medicine. Or maybe be an interior decorator!
11+4 due 11/11
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out?
2 weeks ago at my first on apt. I have hypertension before becoming pregnant and I did IVF which alone makes this high risk apparently.
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc.
So far I am seeing my ob and a perinatal Dr monthly so 2 apts 2x a week. They think I may have to do the 24 hour urine test next week for a baseline. I will also be monitored by my cardiologist. At 25ish weeks weekly us and before that I will have to check blood pressure and send it in. Hopefully no early delivery.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post.
I'm actually ok even though this isn't how I pictured my pregnancy going. It was a long road to get here so I am greatful just to be pregnant and if that means a ton of appointments so be it.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up?
I wanted to be a ballerina. I am now an underwriter for an insurance company that sells home and auto coverage....a very exciting job LOL
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? I am diabetic and now I'm also an "old lady"
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. Ill have a few extra appts with MFM and NST's 2x a week towards the end as well as extra ultrasounds to check on growth.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. I'm ok its just frustrating that I feel like I cant eat anything without needing insulin. Then sometimes I cant eat and end up with low blood sugar.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut which is funny because I get sick on the merry go round lol.
Tubal Reveral: 10/12
Ecoptic: 3/13 (Lost Right Tube, Left Tube Blocked)
IVF #1: 3/14 = BFN
IVF #2: 3/15 = BFN
IVF #3: 6/15 = BFN
FET#1: 11/17 = BFN
Endometrial Scratch: 2/18
FET #2: 3/18 = BFP!
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out? I am high risk due to hypertension, Anxiety and Depression. All before pregnancy.
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc. So far just monthly check ups and on Monday I have an appointment with a therapist.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post. Well the past few days has been a battle but we are pulling through. Anxiety kicks in every once in a while but we are coping.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up? I wanted to be a Hairstylists but ended up being a seamstress
12w1d. 11/23
2. Why are you high risk? How many weeks were you when you found out?
Severe preeclampsia, possible HELLP, and had to deliver at 34 weeks first pregnancy (had been on procardia 4x a day dor a month because of preterm labor/contractions already.)
Hypertension, low fluid 2nd pregnancy.
Haven't been told to my face I'm high risk, but it's in my online chart.
3. What is your protocol? I.E. extra monitoring, early delivery, etc.
So far just baby aspirin. If it goes anything like the last two, millions of ultrasounds, 24 hr urines, and monitoring later.
4. How are you? Use this as your rant/rave/screw this whole situation post.
The nausea has pretty much lifted, woo! I've had a couple of worry days, as #1 was very scary. I still have residual black spots in my vision that the eye doc says sounds like was a mini stroke during the pre-e explosion. I have an overall peaceful feeling about this pregnancy though.
5. GTKY: What do you want to be when you grow up?
I'm a wedding photographer! Though I've considered going back to school to be an ultrasound tech!
