Trouble with Girl Name

H and I have two boys and found naming them to be easy. We’re really struggling with naming a baby girl. I lean toward more traditional “old lady” names, whereas my husband likes more masculine/trendy names, so it’s hard to find a middle ground.

Here is our current long list. Any suggestions I may not have considered? Or any you would definitely remove? LN begins with F and is two syllables.

Vivian (my #1, but H refuses, so I should really remove this)

Veda

Frances (nn Frankie)

Vienna

Sienna

Rosalie (but DS2 is Roman...)

Imogen

Genevieve

Octavia

I would remove Vivian if your husband hates it, even though I really like the name. I really like Frances and Rosalie. I really dislike Vienna and Imogen.

    suggesting:
    Josephine
    Sylvia
    Estelle
    Celeste
    Eliza
    Edith
    Isadora
    Annabelle
  • Options
Frances is old name with a masculine nn so it could be a good compromise.

    Ruby
    Josephine nn Jo
    Louisa
    Beatrice nn Bea
    Willa
    Jocelyn

I really like your list. My least favorite is probably Vienna.

I'm not sure if you really like V names, but my grandma was named Viola and I think it's a really pretty name, and not super common like it seems Violet is becoming.

@MJDsquared I love V names. H suggested Sienna and I tried it with a V. But, ya know, the comparison to sausages isn’t really worth it.

Love Viola, but need to see what H thinks.

Great list! I have two "old ladies" myself. I wanted to suggest Vera or Ivy to your list

    How about
    Vera
    Violet
    Vanessa
    Agnes
    Agatha
Martha (could use more masculine nn Martie for her)

I love Vera, as a few people have mentioned. And, it was even H’s grandmother’s name, but again, he won’t go for it.

@AndieTessie we’ve tossed around the idea of Ivy a few times. I might push for it again. I do love it. Short and sweet.

     Thanks everyone for your thoughts!

I could have written your post! He vetoed Vivian for our first kid (which turned out to be a boy) and then forgot and approved it for our second (which turned out to be a Vivian!).

We both liked the name Alexandra, which may fit your situation. Or Alexa. My husband loved Zöe, Hazel, and Abigail, too. I only liked Vivian ;)

I adore Vivian.. I say it’s fine to leave it on your list and try to break hubby down! :)

I also really like your options of Frances and Genevieve

I would lose Veda and Vienna

    I’ll add:

    Maisie

    Ruby

    Stella

    Violet
