Re: WTF Week 4/18

  • WTF annoying co-worker?!? I go into a meeting this morning with my notepad and a little baggie of trail mix. He picks up my baggie and wants to talk about each and every thing that's in there. Spoiler alert: it's like nuts and dried cranberries, nothing exciting. Don't touch my food!

  • Wtf, why are people asking me about a 2nd kid already? I'm 34, and it's unlikely it's gonna happen, so STFU already.

Lol. MIL wants us to have one more. And was shocked when SO was talking about getting snipped. Mind you, this is my 4th. And I’m 35. The thought did cross my mind - because baby girl won’t have any full blood siblings but I never had any full blood sibs, just a half brother and half sister - and I think she’ll be okay.

I still secretly wouldn’t mind one more. My new car seats 7. lol. We could do it. Hehehehe.
  • I say this to SO everyday. He has no clue. Lol.
  • Exactly what y'all said. I just keep nicely saying, "Let's just see how this first one goes."  It'll be a miracle if I don't have a mental breakdown having to come back to this job I loathe after maternity leave. I'm pretty much banking on my sister having a cousin for this baby to consider a sibling.  :#
  • My MIL said to everyone this past weekend when they were visiting that she would move back near us if the third one was a girl.

Well thank you, we are like 99% only having this aecond kid and WTF is that?? Like the boys arent good enough?
  • Yep... My mom was all excited to retire when we first found out we were pg. She was going to take baby girl shopping, dress her up in cutesy stuff, and do all the girly stuff I never liked. She was even buying baby girl clothes because the baby just HAD to be a girl.

Then we found out we’re having another boy. No more talk of retirement. No more talk of doing much with this kid. Probably because DS thinks shopping is the most boring thing on the planet and tells my mom to stop buying him stuff.
  • @rachel1008 yeah lol. I don’t know if it’s cultural maybe. She’s DH’s stepmom and she’s from Korea, but she’s he only grandmother on that side my kids will know because his mom is no longer around.
  • @scottishlass1213 @melprop on some leve they have to know how messed up that is, right? Ugh, how gross.

  • @scottishlass1213 @melprop Those sound like things my MIL would do. She’s always been obsessed with us having a girl since she never did. This is just going to be the daughter she never had and I really hope she doesn’t push DS aside because I will lose my shit!
  • I’m not even sure. She never had her own kids, she inherited DH and his younger brother when they were 11 and 9 so part of me thinks she just doesn’t “get it” and isn’t purposefully being insensitive.

  • I'm so heartbroken reading the reactions that MILs have had here. You guys I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this. I mean, it's one thing for a total stranger to make some asshole comment about sex preference or disappointment but to hear it from your own family?!? I just can't wrap my head around how hurtful that must be. I'm so sorry.

I will never forget MIL’s reaction when we told her I was pregnant the first time, and the first thing out of her mouth was “oh my god, if it’s a girl...!!!” DH was like “but what if it’s a boy?” And then actually telling her we were having a boy, I never even actually said the words. We met her for lunch and when I got out of the car she said “it’s a boy isn’t it? I knew it” with hardly any excitement on her face that she was actually having a grandchild.
  • I have to give my mom credit- my mom is equally excited for both grandkids (since my brother is having a girl and I'm having a boy). My dad is a liiiiittle more excited for my boy but that's because he's a sports fanatic and wants a little guy to share all of his sports stuff with. But he's still excited about my niece.

  • When I was pregnant with my son, my mother’s reaction was “you know you could die, right?” I give her a pass because her mother died a few weeks earlier, but yeah, unpleasant.

  • My MIL is so excited to have a grandbaby - ANY grand child. We thought for a while we wouldn't be able to have kids, so our announcement caught everyone by surprise. I'm pretty sure a monkey could pop out of me and she would be just as thrilled.

My parents, on the other hand, have no ability to act 'normal' about anything. My stepmom (who has no kids of her own) immediately went on about her niece and about how PPD drove her crazy and she had to get professional help and almost committed suicide. Very nice.

I mean everyone will lol so what did her comment mean? Like in childbirth???
  • My MIL is excited either way since this is her first grandchild. But, I know she wants a girl. She says all the time how she thinks it's a girl and that she has dreams that it is a girl. She also talks only about our girl name. She isn't rude or anything so I mostly let it slide. My mom has 3 other (1 girl, 2 boys) grandkids so I think she doesn't care.
  • In my mind both sets of grandparents should be happy period because the only grandkids they are going to get are from me hhahha
  • @Brezzy1928 my MIL is like your mom. She calls this one '#7' because I have six nieces and nephews and I think she sometimes forgets if we're having a boy or a girl.

  • Definitely had some insensitive comments from family about this baby's sex. BUT I'm relieved it's another boy because I don't need more shit in my house. Also, shocker, I wanted two boys. So YAY FOR MEEEE! Lol.
  • My MIL kept saying this whole pregnancy “I know it’s a boy.” Looking back, I wish we would’ve kept the sex a secret for a little longer just to mess with her.
  • After all this talk, my MIL posts about how she dreamed of having twin grandsons, but probably won’t. Ummm.... that’s oddly specific....

Lol there’s been a long standing joke in my family that the child who gives my mom red headed twin grand babies will inherit my dads beanie baby collection (soooo many inside family jokes rolled into one).

So far 7 grands, 2 on the way. My youngest has the most red in his hair of any yet but no one would call him a ginger. My brother has red hair and no kids yet - but his wife is from Eastern Europe with black hair so it’s unlikely I imagine

  • Well, if we had twins, they’d almost certainly be red-heads because DH and I both are, but that’s not happening!
