Financing IVF without insurance?

Hi all,

We are paying for the IUI and are planning to do IVF if the IUI doesn't take (my OB recommended proceeding with IVF but doing a round or two of IUI while we wait to start IVF, just in case it works).  Neither of our insurance plans covers fertility treatments (which is frustrating because I work for a huge hospital corporation in the Seattle area) - how are you guys (who don't have insurance for it) paying for it?  Are there any good websites you'd recommend checking out for fertility financing?  There seem to be quite a bit out there and I just don't know where I go...it's overwhelming.

I apologize if this has already been asked on here, but I wasn't able to find it in the search so I figured I'd ask.

Thank you all in advance!

We don’t have any coverage for fertility either. Our company covers 90% of tests to diagnose but then after that we are on our own.  I would check with your clinic. Ours does a payment plan with zero interest. We paid for drugs upfront and then did a down payment on the IVF package. Then we do monthly payments for a year. It’s still a lot of money but that made it more manageable.

@J1006 - Thank you!  I was lucky to have the majority of the tests to diagnose be covered as well (we started the whole testing process in January and I met my deductible by the end of that month...haha).  I'll double check with the clinic.

We are OOP and insurance pays nothing else either. We didn't finance but I have friends that did get a small loan for their IVF. I think one said her's is like $300 / month. I think they let you finance up to 5 years if needed. I've also heard of people getting low interest or no-interest credit cards for a certain amount of time to help pay. I know there are fertility loans, but your clinic may have the option to split the retrieval process in 1/2 so don't have to pay that full portion all up front.

We are OOP for IVF but have some coverage on prescriptions - which is a huge help. We took out a small loan with low interest for the treatments. GL!

I will say if your clinic has a global rate for treatments  without insurance I would definitely do that. The clinics also had a deal with Shady grove that I got my meds at discount too

Our IVF worked out to being about 18k. We had some small savings for it, because we knew there was a chance we'd have to do it. But we put the bulk of it on a line of credit, and paid it off aggressively.

    Good luck!

Hey jules3978 fellow PNW person here (I live in Portland). I've heard there is one clinic in Seattle, I think its called Poma, that will give you your money back after 3 rounds of IVF if it doesn't work. I've heard of people driving up from Portland just to get that deal.

I went to OHSU in Portland for IVF and there were a couple different options for financing IVF. You could choose the grouped rates with financing or just an al a carte type of deal, which we chose. PGS and other testing is additional. We opted for PGS testing and all said and done with meds, retrieval, transfer we were about $20,000 out of pocket.
An expensive piece was the meds, I know a couple ladies in my local Resolve group ordered their meds from overseas and saved a ton of money. I would have done that, but I didn't have the information until after we had already bought ours.
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.

@kerryann124 - I will look in to this place!  I've only really focused on SRM and Pacific NW Fertility due to my age and their success rates but it won't hurt to talk to them.  Thank you!
@Holls214  - Thank you for that little bit of info!  :)

I've come across this in my searching.  Some have very restrictive criteria, others not as much.  I haven't tried to apply for any myself as of yet.

For my second round of IVF I ordered meds overseas and saved over $2k compared to the first cycle.  They were all the same and worked perfectly (or better since the 2nd round had improved results!)  I wish I had known about the option earlier.

We also did not have any insurance for IVF and it cost us almost 16,000$cad. I live in Canada but fertility treatments were not covered at the time we did IVF (now in Ontario they cover one cycle, so that's really good if we ever need to do another egg retrieval)

Honestly how we paid for IVF is by not paying for a big wedding, we got married at a public place and the reception was at home with only 18 people. We paid 1500$cad and most of that was the cost of the wedding license and food. It was worth it to me because that meant we could try for baby. We also were careful about spending and saved as much as we could because we also wanted to buy a house, it took us a little while to save up enough for both.

I know some banks here will do loans for IVF, I am not sure about where you are though.

It's not fertility specific, but we've taken out a couple loans from Sofi, and we couldn't believe how easy and fast it was. If I needed to take one out for IVF (if we do more cycles), I would totally consider using them. I want to say we had money in our account two days after applying, and the rate is just over 5%.
