Hello,
I would like to share my story in hopes I can get some positive replies. I had two back to back IUI's - March 14 and 15, took Femara and an ovidrel trigger shot. It worked and I got a BFP on a HPT and then blood showed HCG and Progesterone rising at a great rate! Everyone was optimistic and this was an exciting time. Over the course of a week I began experiencing pain on my left side and this past Thursday the pain was so bad I went to the ER. My fears were confirmed that the pregnancy was ectopic. I was immediately taken for surgery and because the tube had ruptured they had to remove it. I had internal bleeding. Even though I was only 6 weeks, the embryo was huge and growing at a rapid rate, which would have been wonderful had it been in the right place. I had surgery yesterday and am home today recovering and feeling sad.
They say that with an ectopic HCG levels don't double, however mine were and were up to 6000 as of yesterday, before the surgery.
First off, I am petrified to try and get pregnant again even though my RE said he is optimistic because the egg was able to be fertilized. Second I guess I'd like to connect with women who have had an ectopic and were able to conceive after and go on to have a healthy pregnancy. I am hoping this is the right place for that.
Looking forward to replies.
Re: Ectopic Pregnancy after IUI
i know many of us here have gone through IUI after IUI with no success and most have moved on to IVF. I do think you're RE is right that a silver lining is that you had fertilization success, just in the wrong place. i presume you'd be able to continue to move forward with IUI as long as your other tube isn't blocked, but I"m sure the fear of an ectopic still remains. i believe IVF/FET would be the only assurance of not having implantation in your tube. obviously, this is a very expensive option, but it does seem like some women live in places where IVF treatments are covered by insurance in the event that you wanted to research your other options.
everyone here will tell you infertility sucks. loss is hard and feeling like you have no control over your body is too. sending you warmest wishes and luck in your continued journey.

I am so sorry for your loss. EP is one of the hardest things to go through and I feel your pain. My EP anniversary is coming up this May. Our stories are similar however my second tube was damaged as well so after I recovered from my EP we moved directly to IVF. I am currently pregnant from my transfer #4 ( had 2 more CPs and a BFN). Hopefully this one will stick. Take care of yourself, just remember that it is not your fault and it will get easier with time. I wish you all the best! And please check your remaining tube before doing another IUI.
