  • Sorry for the lack of creativity here. I am on team struggle bus this week, but I promise to think of more creative questions later.

What has been working for you for meals and working out? Honestly? Not a whole lot. This has been my worst week so far in terms of workouts. I did a 30 min ride on Wednesday and 4 mile run pushing the double yesterday. That's it. I'm not sure if a workout will happen today. Meals are so hit and miss. Protein shakes are a hit right now, so I'm going to lean on those as much as possible. I also managed to choke down some chicken for lunch today. Go me.

What has been your biggest pregnancy related challenge so far? The nausea. And exhaustion. I had zero symptoms up until about 6 weeks and now I just live in a state of feeling hungover. The nausea is constant. I have to eat every hour or two to feel better, but then I end up feeling bloated and chubby. And my exhaustion has really limited my evening workouts. I'm so ready for the second tri.

What has been working for you for meals and working out?

I don’t have much nausea so on normal weeks I force myself to eat healthy and do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. Running is already more difficult though so I’ve been enjoying barre and some HIIT/Strenth training sessions more

What has been your biggest pregnancy related challenge so far? DD having spring break this week! She is in morning preschool three mornings a week, which isn’t a lot but I sooooo depend on that time for meal prep, working out, and just getting things done and have energy so when she’s not in school I can workout during nap time! Anyway without that we have been eating out for lunch a lot and I spend nap time cleaning and resting. So this week is a bust for me!

What has been working for you for meals and working out? Protein shakes are my go to right now and lots of fruit. Simpe carbs make me feel so sick and drain the little energy that I have. As far as workouts go, I went to crossfit Mon-Thu and ran 8 miles on Friday. I have a race I am training for in 4 weeks so even though workouts aren't as good or easy right now, I'm determined to keep up if I can.

What has been your biggest pregnancy related challenge so far? Exhaustion and the inability to breathe as well. I find myself losing my breath so much more easily.

What has been working out for meals and working out for you? So far I haven't missed a workout but I'm dragging at the end of Zumba. My normal routine is 4 miles 3x a week and a 7 mile sat ( wish me luck today!) Then I do Zumba and body pump 2x each. I haven't had much  nausea yet but I'm anticipating that to put me flat in my back in a week or 2. Meals are going ok. Snacks have been my weakness this week.

What has been your biggest pregnancy-related challenge so far? I feel hungry all the freaking time. Then, if I don't eat I start to feel sick to my stomach. I've got a little better this week about trying to eat stuff like bananas and pears when I'm starving but I definitely cracked few times it had stuff I popcorn or cookies.

What has been working for you for meals and working out? Not much? Ha. My nausea finally calmed down, so I don’t have to snack on crackers constantly like I did for a few weeks, so I’m eating pretty much normally just MORE because I’m starving all the time. I’m getting kind of tired of food!
What has been your biggest pregnancy related challenge so far?  The sheer and utter exhaustion! I was really hoping it wouldn’t be as bad this pregnancy, but it is. The last week and a half, I’ve basically come home and crashed on the couch, and gone to bed when my kids do, so no workouts (and then I hit snooze for a solid half hour in the morning). It’s miserable being this exhausted, and it’s also no fun not feeling like working out.

craving nothing but junk food, and I usually try to eat pretty healthy! Smoothies are my go to for at least one meal since I can get a few cups of spinach and 1/2 an avocado in there.. I crossfit and hike regularly but have been too nervous to thus far! May start again after my next ultrasound next week..
What has been your biggest pregnancy related challenge so far?
I work in the schools and have been on spring break, so have been able to nap at will. Worried about next week because I think the exhaustion and nausea will be harder to ignore. Pretty smooth sailing up until now, although since this is an IVF baby I've been scared to workout- I am usually pretty active so know this is something I will need to get ok with, especially since I want to workout throughout my pregnancy..

What has been working for you for meals and working out? nothing had been, I’ve been having a rough rough start. The past four days I have slightly gotten some energy back and finally started being able to eat more than crackers. I honestly just went to the store for fruits and veggies and maxed those. I am seriously CRAVING watermelon and snap peas so badly. With a little energy back and some nice weather we walked every day we could this week just to help ease back into doing someone after nothing for 5 weeks.

What has been your biggest pregnancy related challenge so far? the all day sickness, fatigue and my whole body hurting already. It made sense when I find out I was pregnant because I was having a hard time with my workouts. Getting so tired way faster than usual. I am really hoping these last four days are the up and not just a fluke!! I want to get back into a better routine

  • @ashkee05 I wish I was craving snap peas and watermelon. My body still only wants carbs and cheese.

  • @wannaflickone I am so guilty of being the BIGGEST junk food junky and I love all the carbs. Pregnancy does the opposite to me though. I can’t handle sweets or crabs. They make me feel like straight death.

Nausea has taken most of my healthy go tos and tossed them out the window. Baby loves cheese and carbs... Luckily a protein shake with fruits and veggies is still agreeable for now!
What has been your biggest pregnancy related challenge so far?
This is my first pregnancy and I am shocked at my level of exhaustion! I was running 3 days a week and doing HIT at least twice before pregnancy. Now just walking on the treadmill feels like a marathon. My doctor advised keeping my heart rate under 140, so add 4% elevation at 3mph I am there! I wanted to continue the gym and running but I just don't see how I can. Grocery shopping takes it out of me and I just feel pathetic.
  • @ftm_jen - the 140 heart rate is a very old, outdated recommendation. And like you said, one that can only be kept by hardly increasing intensity in a workout.

Here are some good guidelines on working out while pregnant... The article even addresses running and heart rate.

  • @vrj0522 Great article, has alot of good information in it. I don't think I've ever heard the heart rate limit thing before. So weird!

  • @CanadianGamerMom - it is weird! I got the hr recommendation from my doctor when I was pregnant with DS1 back in 2011 so I researched it and found that it was an outdated rec even back then. It's amazing to me that it continues to be passed on so many years later.

  • @vrj0522 thanks for the article. I had read something similar and have been questioning myself. Even listening to my body I will be slow going but am going to give it a shot. Going to go for the 'being able to talk' test for now.
  • @vrj0522 thanks again for the info. While I only ended up running 2.5 miles it felt great to get outside!
