Twins?

I know it’s crazy early but I keep getting these feelings that I am having twins. I do have 4 sets of twins throughout my family. Other then just a strange intuition and being hungrier then I was with my daughter, nothing else is different. Anyone else had twins in a previous pregnancy, or having these same feelings with this one? I’m almost 6 weeks and my first ultrasound isn’t until I am 10.2 weeks.

Re: Twins?

  • The only way to tell is with an ultrasound. I don’t think anyone else will be able to tell you much and you’ll just drive yourself crazy. Good luck!

  • What PP said, ultrasound will be the only way to know. I will say, being hungrier or even increased symptoms in general aren't a sign of how many babies you're carrying.

  • Thanks everyone. It’s just a long wait!

#1 Hope your ultrasound is good news regardless

#2 I would love twins also! I have identical twins on both sides of my family -my maternal grandmother IS a twin, and I have first-cousin identical twins on my dad's side- it would be great to bring a fresh set of human mirrors to the family.

So far the only things in favor of twinning are my age (33), and that I'm getting big fast. I do have a quick appt next week, but we're just checking progesterone (and maybe betas). I'm looking forward for the first ultrasound whenever it happens

I also would love twins. 2 birds with one stone!
I have identical twins in my family too but too bad identical twins aren't something that runs in anyone's genes. Haha
I do have one set of fraternal twins in my family but pretty far out.

  • I would love twins, but at the same time I would be terrified. So much work! My paternal grandmother had a twin brother, but again -- paternal. So the genes aren't on my side.

  • My step daughters are twins. Its an ongoing inside joke that with his 1st wife FI had a son and then twin girls so he will be repeating this time. But our emergency US only showed one nugget.
  • Heh. I thought I wanted twins the first time around, but my daughter was in the 99th percentile by weight and I carried large. Suffice it to say I was miserable for the second half of pregnancy; even if the two babies combined were only 1.5 times her size... ugh, no thanks.  As much as I love the thought of a two-for-one discount on pregnancy, NOPE.
  • My sisters are fraternal twins, so my odds of conceiving twins are a little higher. But I was three when my mom was pregnant with them, and I still remember how miserable she was. If it made that much of an impression on me, it must have been awful.

  • I would love to have twins.. not because I want to handle two babies at once but because this will most likely be my last pregnancy and I really want 4 kids! Fraternal twins run in both sides of my family. My dad's a twin, my mom had a twin pregnancy that she lost, my grandfather has twin sisters. Seriously, they're everywhere in my family! I only have one sister and she hasn't had any kids yet so I'd be the first in our generation to have twins!

I would probably need to get a mental check after the stress and strain of two babies, a toddler, and a school age kid.. still, I like the whole two birds idea!

@PensiveCrayon if she was your grandmother, even on your dad's side, those genes still pass on to you! They just didn't influence your mom's pregnancies.

  • @amfasse Really? I always heard the twin gene was maternal-linked and skipped a generation. Who knows!

  • @amfasse that's similar reasoning for me. DH is adamant about only two kids, which we already have one DS. I'd love to have three kids though! So if we have twins (so not likely) then he has no choice lol. Besides, it skips my kids generation, my sister was supposed to be a twin. **TW** Twins technically run in the family, but one never makes it past a few weeks **End TW** So I'm not holding my breath :/

  • Does it matter which side has twins in the family?? is it the father or the mother?? I was meant to be a twin as was my husband but we ended up being the only survivors his grandfather is a twin his mum had twin girls aswell as the youngest boy was meant to be a twin again I feel like the chances could be quite high for us but never know till the scan
  • @donnawicks it's based off of your family line. The woman determines how many, the man determines what (boy v girl)

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but identical is from the father. Fraternal is from the mother. Right?
  • @AshleyGemini24 Identical twins are actually not from either the mother or the father, it's just chance, which is crazy!

  • I have been super paranoid about twins... I got a really early preg test (early for me) and I’m already showing, but this is my 4th baby so I’m hoping that’s all it is

i always really wanted twins as my dad is a fraternal twin and he has fraternal twin daughters (but from our science lesson i learned was not from his side). My mother has a twin brother and sister and another of her brothers had twin daughters.

but after having a solo, i don’t know how anyone does it with twins. that said my age makes it more likely. I know 4 families that had twins on their second pregnancy.

that would literally ally change my whole life. we would likely move from NYC if that happens.
