We started at 5 weeks, but the time was pretty sporadic at first. Usually I would just aim for a window of time to start it depending on his day. Our is a bath, rock and story (if he isn't too tired) and then a bottle. Once he hits about 4 months I plan on switching up and doing a bottle, then bath, then rock/story.
DD #1 passed away in January 2011 at 14 days old due to congenital heart disease
DD#2 lost in January 2012 at 23 weeks due to anhydramnios caused by a placental abruption
I think as soon as DC seems to somewhat be getting on one and your ready to start, its never too soon. Just be flexible this early and dont expect too much.
We just got on a somewhat regular one of the time I start putting her to bed. GL!
In the beginning he was eating so often that we would just try to go to bed at our normal time (10 PM) unless he was going to need to eat at 11...then we would stay up. Eventually this got too late and then he would be overtired and nearly impossible to get to sleep. That is when we started giving a bath at 7:30, then bottle, then bed.
i was going to start this week but we're going out of town next week. we're going to start it when we get back home and he's in his comfort zone. so around 7/8 weeks. we'll do bath, story, bottle then bed.
With my son we started early on..around 2 1/2 mths. He was a really good sleeper so we transitioned him to his crib and started the bedtime routine then. With my daughter I just started this week and she is almost three months, but she is still in the co-sleeper. I will probably get her in the crib within the next month or so.
My routine involves either a warm bath or a warm cloth bath, lotion and pj's. Low light in the room and then a feeding. By the time she finishes feeding she is pretty drowsy. So she goes down easily....the same went for my son.
Right after the new year, so he was 2 1/2 months. He took to it pretty well after a couple of nights.
We do bath (every other night) or wipe with a washcloth, massage with night time lotion, pajamas, read a goodnight prayer from his book, turn on the music soother machine, turn off the lights (except his nightlight) and feed him a bottle. He's either out right after his bottle or he puts himself to sleep within a few minutes of being in his crib.
Wife to Drew since 08.18.2007
Mom to Andrew since 10.18.2008
Runner, baker, reader, eater
We started our routine at 2 weeks. Bath, massage, bottle, snuggle, swaddle, then lights out. It usually takes him about 20 minutes to fall completely asleep.
