I had to significantly reduce my caffeine intake to get within pregnancy guidelines and I am *feeling* it. Jesus. My daughter is a terrible sleeper, so I've been a caffeine junkie basically since she was born, so I knew it was going to be rough, but OUCH. I forgot how hard it was not to just grab a Diet Coke whenever I feel like it (which is often!)
*Edited to fix a typo I made because I have *clearly not had enough caffeine*
@maureenmce My last pregnancy I felt like that!!!! Timing wise, this worked out for me because I had given up diet coke for Lent, so I significantly reduced my caffeine intake mid-February (which probably helped me conceive, honestly)! You should go buy some caffeine free diet coke!
@maureenmce yyyeeess. I am really missing my 2pm coffee to help get me through the afternoon. I think I'm going to get some decaf and hopefully trick my body into surviving the days.
ALL I WANT IS COFFEE. I regularly drink six to eight cups a day; one is not cutting it. The only decaf in the office is genuinely awful, too... and I can drink just about anything, so that's saying something.
All I can say is this child had better be extra cute.
@texas_t I wouldn't mind it, but I'm cheap, and regular old brew coffee is free. I'll adjust. Eventually. Probably.
Last time around I brought my own decaf beans and would make a decent decaf French press, but I didn't see the good stuff at the grocery store the last time I was there so I'm spending this week kind of sad.
Addendum/PSA for those also needing to replace their regular coffee intake; regular decaf involves a lot of chemical processing and sources differ on how "safe" it is in pregnancy. The Swiss water method of decaffeination doesn't involve chemicals and is safer; Caribou Coffee decaf, Peet's Mocca-Java decaf, and Starbucks Komodo Dragon decaf are all a-OK by that metric. Most stuff certified "Organic" should be fine. If you want something a little fancier, Intelligentsia's Librarian Blend decaf is also safe and delicious (looking at you LA ladies and any fellow Chicagoans here).
Okay, this is extremely early to complain about this, but why are maternity clothes SO expensive? I was just casually browsing, because I can't keep my mind on anything else, and Pea in a Pod is so much more pricey than any of the clothes I wear every day (okay, I am a cheap, mostly Target shopper, to be fair.) The thing that gets me is that it's only for 9 months (and maybe the first few months postpartum!) I have a few things leftover from last time, but I wanted to treat myself to some nicer work outfits so I don't feel like a slob, but...yikes, I can't imagine spending $180 on a dress I'll wear for a year.
Related to this - does anyone have recs for more affordable but decent quality maternity clothing? I got a couple of things from Target last time but, aside from the jeans, I wasn't thrilled with the quality. One of the dresses I got was practically see through (which I didn't realize until I'd gotten it home, lol.) I have been looking at H and M but haven't order from them before, so no clue what the quality is like.
@maureenmce I did Stitchfix with my last pregnancy and I really liked it. Their items are moderately priced ($30ish for a shirt, $80ish for a dress, etc.) and it was kind of nice not actually having to pick things out, I just got a box with clothes every three weeks and I was done. One less to think/worry about!
@maureenmce Le Tote has maternity clothing rental (flat fee for as many boxes of clothes as you want, with a chance to customize what you receive); I used their regular clothes rental service for a while and it was fine. Kohls and Old Navy run some pretty decent sales, as well; it's nothing fancy, but it's cheap. I also liked online shopping through ASOS, especially for dresses.
@maureenmce oh yeah forget A pea in a pod. They’re prices are just nuts. I liked Gap maternity a lot, and old navy is good too.
Also YES on the coffee thing. Maybe a UO but I’m not giving it up completely — just sticking to a cup a day. Still, coming down from my regular 2 cups sucks.

Amen to the coffee thing! I'm also not giving it up completely per my doctor. I'm here to bitch about the fact that my work has TB site blocked now (wasn't last year) so I have to participate via mobile. *Grumble*
Thank GOD for this... I’m not telling many people yet so I can’t bitch to my friends. Told my MIL I’m pregnant and within the first 5 mins she goes “I’m watching that baby. You’re not sending him/her to daycare when you go back to work.” When I thanked her and said we’re still exploring options she insited saying that she talked about it with my DH and that was what was going to happen.
While I really appreciate that she’s willing to help, I was SO MAD that she felt like she had the right to make that decision. It was not said in a nice way, trust me. It was more my way or the highway. I can’t stand when she oversteps boundaries like that. Ughhh.
Thanks so much for the maternity clothes recs! @AGK2015 I've never heard of Le Tote! Off to check it out now. And @gracie4400 I have friends who are *obsessed* with Stitch Fix but I've never tried it and had no idea they did maternity clothes! Good to know!
@awells189 That is overstepping boundaries like crazy! I'm sure it came from a well intentioned place but whoa, *you and your husband* are the sole people who get to decide who is taking care of your baby. I hope your husband is able to talk her down a bit!
@awells189 Yeah Id feel the same as you, like thanks but its OUR decision. My in laws can be like that sometimes, when I come home, they'll grab him from me, not even a hi, and then they'll take him to some other part of the house to play with him and I wont see him all night. I try not to cause drama about it but MAN, sometimes its so hard!
