Has anyone else been prescribed low dose aspirin during pregnancy? I had preeclampsia with DS so the doc put me on it this time. I have had one instance of high blood pressure reading and it was while someone was delivered bad news when I bumped into her at my appointment. Otherwise, it’s been normal or even low. I’m wondering if the aspirin is causing it to be low. This morning it was 107/68. Any input is much appreciated.

Don't have any advice for you, just wanted to share that my BP normally hangs around that range and docs have never been concerned (they usually say that it's good.)

Hopefully the ladies here will have some experience and words of wisdom but definelty call your doc to talk about it more if you're worried!

I have lower blood pressure when pregnant and I’m always prescribed aspirin during pregnancy. Never caused any complications with DS. I get light headed occasionally and just take it easy when that happens.

At my last appointment, my OB and I discussed going on a low dose asprin regimen to mitigate the risk of preeclampsia. My blood pressure is typically right on the edge of what is considered to be high.

She said that when they advise that, it typically starts around week 12, and continues through to week 36 or so.

I would talk to you OB about it if you are concerned about it.

My doctor put me on low dose of aspirin starting yesterday (10 weeks). I’ve had high blood pressure for years and can generally control it without medicine through diet and excercise, but around 8 weeks it already started climbing a bit. She said patients who are on an aspirin regiment generally have lower risks of preeclampsia. I take my bp daily at home and was pretty surprised with the difference in a day with aspirin and a day without. I would check with your doctor for a normal range... both high and low. She also told me that generally BP tends to be lower and heart rate can be higher due to increased blood in first tri.

My doctor also prescribed it for me I'm really worried to take it. I had high blood pressure 1 time at 39 weeks and 6 days and they induced me that day I just had to poop super bad like diarrhea kind and they induced me that day. I went home to get my stuff and poop and went to the hospital and it was normal. So I don't know if I should even take it. I think its gonna mess up my BP. I'm in the same boat as you.

I was on it from conception through week 10 per my RE (it can help with placenta implantation), off weeks 10 to 12 as there are some concerns with gastroschesis during that time, and will start back on it tonight (12 weeks) for the reduced preeclampsia effects. I don’t have a history of pre-e, but I have a few risk factors for it.

Thanks, everyone. I am really interested to see if there are women who were diagnosed with pre-e in their first pregnancy, and were not diagnosed with pre-e because took aspirin in their second pregnancy...I knew someone who was diagnosed with being "borderline" in the first and in her second she still had high BP but no protein. I don't know anyone else who has had any similar experiences.

I was on it with my DS and was borderline pre e with him. I will start the low dose aspirin this week this time around as prescribed by my MFM. Im really hoping to avoid blood pressure meds this time around.

Hi. I had pre-e with my first DD and was immediately put on asprin with this pregnancy. From what I have read and from what my Dr told me there is no harm to me or the baby while taking it. I usually have normal blood pressure and have not had any symptoms from taking the asprin. I've talked to other people who have taken asprin during their pregnancy for different reasons and they also didn't have any symptoms. Hope this helps.

@nmadjeski do you remember what your protein levels were with your DS?

@joey2831 have you noticed any signs of low blood pressure with the aspirin since your typical blood pressure is normal?

@meltonjl aspirin has been shown to reduce the chance of developing pre-eclampsia in many studies especially if started as early as late first trimester. It's safe for you to take for you and your baby. Overall, the chance of preventing pre-e by taking aspirin vs the risk of developing pre-e is beneficial for you and your baby.

Aspirin does not lower your blood pressure.
That blood pressure is fine. It's in the normal range. As long as you're not feeling light-headeded/dizzy upon standing, bending over etc.. it's fine. Lower limit of normal is 90/60. Mine at baseline is 85-90/55-60.

Bp can get lower if you don't drink enough water. So stay hydrated.

Ask your doc/pharmacist if you have questions. Overall, Aspirin is safe and cannot lower bp

Thanks, @ashin121 I have been feeling dizzy and light headed. Overall, I believe it is safe. Everything I have read and what my doctor has told me indicate that it's safe. I was more so just wondering if it was causing a dip in my blood pressure. My frustration comes from all this high blood pressure talk when I haven't really had high blood pressure this pregnancy. I will do whatever it takes to avoid pre-eclampsia! It was the worst!

I just started taking low does aspirin today at one day shy of 14 weeks, but could have started at 12. I was borderline pre-e with my first and took the aspirin with my second. I have also been on BP meds since after the birth of my first.

@meltonjl, my blood pressure has not decreased and has remained at the normal level. I just had my last Dr appointment on Monday and everything looked good. I was nervous to start taking the asprin at the beginning, now I just take it with my prenatal vitamin and don't even think about it. I would ask your Dr about your other symptoms.
