My boyfriend and I are having a disagreement. He has never researched hyperemesis but tells me it's curable if I just eat healthier. Which I can understand eating healthier as I am overweight. I already have 2 kids. I went through this with them. I had to take medicine with my second and now this one and was diagnosed with hyperemesis. I have to take reglan to get out of bed in the morning or I will be throwing up everything all day. My boyfriend is telling me that's what the doctors want me to think that I need to take a pill that could harm the baby. And that I just need to lose weight and eat healthier. With my daughter I lost 25lbs while pregnant. Yes I took zofran and it was a hard pregnancy with everything triggering my nasuea and vomiting. But she came out a healthy 6lbs 7os baby girl. I need someone to help me explain this in a way he can understand and also if I'm wrong in any way some one other than him please tell me.
Re: Hyperemesis 8 weeks pregnant
Also, I'm sorry, but it sounds like your boyfriend is an asshole.
"You don't need meds to control your otherwise uncontrollable vomiting, you just need to do your best to lose weight... while you're pregnant."
I'm overweight, I had severe nausea and vomiting for the first half of my pregnancy. If my husband ever dared tell me I needed to lose weight to get it under control, I would have throttled him.
Then again, my husband also understands the basics of hormones and why MS happens in pregnancy, even if he didn't completely understand it.
Maybe your boyfriend could get his head out of his ass and use Google to educate himself on the basics of hormones and morning sickness, and then when he comprehend that, delve in to HG.
If he thinks HG is caused by you being overweight, what's the reason for women of a healthy weight having HG?

You should NOT try to lose weight while pregnant. Sometimes women gain less than what is normal or none at all, particularly if they are overweight before they get pregnant. (This was me. I gained 18 pounds while pregnant, this is on the low end of what overweight women should gain). But losing weight should never be a goal while pregnant.
Like the previous poster, I too put on 18 pounds during pregnancy. I was very overweight and the doctor was happy with this amount of weight gain. This time around I'm exercising on a stationary bike but still overweight. The doctor wants me to continue for my health but stressed that she doesnt want me to lose weight at this time.
