Second Time and beyond Mom Check in 3/28

I know there are already several of us. How is everyone doing?

I had my first wave of morning sickness while trying to single-handed wrangle DS. Thankfully he is starting to understand simple commands, so I was able to tell him to play with his puppy toy for a minute (while I grabbed onto the floor and held on for dear life.)

Re: Second Time and beyond Mom Check in 3/28

  • So far so good. We're not planning to tell Nugget until a little bit later on; she's a bit of a parrot and I'm pretty sure if she hears the word "pregnant" she'll be repeating it in every conversation. As we were snuggling this morning, though, I asked her what she wanted to be when she grows up, and she told me "Brudder sister."

Granted, she also answered with "Pizza!" and "See otters?" when I tried to get her to repeat it for my husband, so I'm not entirely sure she understands the questions. Still, it melted my heart a little bit.

  • I too had my first real morning sickness this morning. I was sick my entire last pregnancy so im praying this baby isnt as bad. Also my 2 1/2 DS has been acting extra(like extra extra) wild too this morning. Ah the joys :)
Always hold on to hope ❤
  • I was shopping target yesterday and while I was browsing the clearance racks, I started to freak a bit. Can I handle two?!

And I’ve had super strong sense of smell which is totally weird. I don’t think I had that before

  • I'm dealing with some intense exhaustion. I remember being super tired with my first but am foggy on whether I was with my 2nd. Having a 2 y/o to chase around is definitely not helping lol... I'm secretly hoping we're having twins - they run in my family and it would be perfect to get 3 & 4 with this pregnancy cuz it will probably be my last!

@Mazinator I worry about that too! My first was 6 when I had my 2nd so I didn't have to handle two little littles at a time. It's gonna be tricky!!

  • At 17 months, I don’t think he’ll understand really what’s happening. I guess we’re just gonna repeat it over and over again.

@Mazinator I have had the same thought! I’m trying to teach DS to put his hands on the car when I get him out of his car seat and when I take him to the car, in the hopes that it’ll be drilled into him by the time baby comes. Other than that? I’m at sea.
  • My DD just turned 2 in February and she is the most high energy kid I have ever met. Like, running wind sprints in the apartment right up until the moment of her bedtime, energetic. Thank god she loves watching song and dance routines on our tablet, because that is the only thing that can stop her running/jumping/moving/climbing even for a second. I have a feeling I'll be using that a lot once the morning sickness hits!

As for symptoms, no real symptoms yet other than being more tired than usual and some breast soreness. But I'm only 3 weeks and 5 days, and I don't typically have tough symptoms until 5/6 weeks. I'm trying to enjoy the calm before the storm!

@amfasse I am secretly hoping for twins too (though it's very unlikely, as they do not run in my family) because (if it works out) this is probably my last pregnancy. I had originally wanted three kids, but with **TW two miscarriages leading up to this pregnancy and my age, I don't know if I have it in me to try for a third. But I'm just really hoping for one healthy pregnancy. Twins would just be a (huge) bonus! end TW**
  • I'm having a small amount of brown spotting when I wipe. I'm so focused on that right now. I shouldn't worry because no matter what I know there isn't anything I can do about it. I don't have any symptoms other than that right now. I am tired but I have an almost 4 year old and a 20 month old, so I just chase them around a lot. @maureenmce and @amfasse twins would be way more than I can handle!
  • @Activebaby If I remember correctly, brown spotting is the best kind you can have, since it's old blood. And I bet it could be triggered by chasing around your little ones! Have you called your OB at all? He or she could maybe just give you some peace of mind over the phone. Thinking of you! And definitely try not to worry. Hugs.
  • We’ve got an 18 month old and very very much wanted and tried for this pregnancy. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t totally freaked out though about handling 2. We can do it though! We got this!

  • We totally got this! I mean, we've already done this once; we're basically experts at this point.
  • @maureenmce @amfasse I secretly want twins too, the first few years would be tough but its twice the love!

Had some light cramping on and off today so maybe Implanting? I know that can happen. And im just so grateful its not the full blown morning sickness yet because I know its coming! My last pregnancy I lost too much weight from being so sick all the time. Were all just holding our breath for the big symptoms to hit lol!

  • @maureenmce I’m the worst - I work in healthcare, changed jobs at the end of the year (insurance change) so I still have to get an OB. I’ll call for an appointment in a couple weeks. Unless something changes. Thanks for your encouragement about the light spotting - I know it can be normal, it’s just the lack of control over our bodies at this time is so hard :)
  • Hi everyone!!! Second time mom here!! My first just turned 3!! We’ve been trying for 1.5 years, so I was estatic to see a faint pos stick on Mon night!!!! :) not thrilled to have a march and dec baby (since that means no outdoor bday parties and I’ll be dealing with Christmas and march break) but whatever!!! Whooohooo!!! I tried to tell my 3 year old the news last night. Her response was “oh! Yes! I want a baby in my tummy too!! “ haha.  :)

Just started a new job a month ago, where I have to train to work everyday. Hoping morning sickness is minimal this time around, last time was killer.

  • Second time mom here! My DS is 13 months old right now. As soon as I got that BFP I was really excited but then immediately went into panic mode. How am I going to handle 2 at once?!?! I am super lucky in that DS has been an amazing baby. He’s pretty much always slept through the night and is fairly easy going, but man is he a Mama’s boy. I’m not sure how he will handle having to share me!
@cmcintos I’m not thrilled about 2 winter babies either. All of DHs Dad and 2 brothers have their birthday in December, then mine is in January, and DH and his Mom in February. Add Christmas and Thanksgiving in there and it makes for a really busy (and expensive) couple of months!

  • I have a 2 1/2 year old son, and like y'all mentioned, I've had a few freak out moments on how the heck are my husband an I going to handle this?  :D

I'm just gonna wing it, lol

  • Having 2 is a lot of work, but after the newborn phase everything starts feeling normal. (Nothing is normal with a newborn I think most moms would agree.) Then seeing your 2 interact is just so awesome...in my opinion.

I am really nervous about this aspect. DD is going through an *extreme* Mama phase, like to the point that she doesn't even want my husband to give her things or do simple things ("no, dada get milk, MAMA get milk. No, dada turn off lights, MAMA turn off lights.") Aside from hurting my poor husband's feelings, I am worried if this keeps up the period where I *can't* do everything for her is going to be really rough. And she is a stubborn, feisty little girl, so it's tough to talk her out of things! Just hoping it passes before it becomes an issue!
  • @maureenmce my daughter is the same! She is so attached to me and will run from my husband when he tries to hug and kiss her. It's so crazy!! I'm really hoping it's just a phase and she'll get over it soon... she does love babies so I'm being positive!

  • My son went through a phase like that with my husband. It really bugged him.  I felt kinda bad, but was like, dude, he's 2.  He got over it for the most part, but I think he's still a mama's boy  :p

  • The only symptoms I'm having are cramping, increased appetite (I'm always starving), increased discharge, and EXTREME fatigue. The last 2 were the biggest hints that I was pregnant. This is my 5th pregnancy the first 2 ended in miscarriage 3&4 gave me my 2 daughters(they'll be 4 and 2 in may). EDD Dec 3 really hoping for a boy this time. The fatigue is hitting me WAY harder this time than it did in previous pregnancies.
  • @amfasse My DD loves babies too, so I'm hoping that will help as well! Though she is not great with being gentle, so we'll have to work on that, haha.

@texas_t That's what I try to tell my husband too - she's 2, it's a phase - but he takes it so personally! I'm hoping this baby has a dada phase, so he feels better!
  • @stiches221 I forgot about the discharge  :'(:'(:'(

  • The discharge.. aka swamp monster. It made me HATE working out my last pregnancy.
  • I’m Changing underwear at least twice a day
  • Okay, I'm glad it's not just me!  The thing that sucks is that, with PGAL brain, I always think I'm bleeding at first and it scares me!
  •  :D:D:D:D  You mean the heart palpitations when you wipe and then you think "OMG, I'm disgusting"

  • @maureenmce It isn’t just PGAL- I think it’s going to be blood every time I feel it.

Hi guysssss! I'm 9dpo and just turned a test so I belong here now. Woo! Not really experiencing any symptoms, other than the phantom ute twinges that come with TTC. But I'm so excited to be back. I was a part of the D16 board for my son, who was actually born in January (10 days late, the jerk). But this EDD is December 12, so I know solidly that I belong here now.

ETA @mittenlove86 totally get the excitement and panic with #2. And while I'm not super thrilled with another holiday-time baby, it is nice that I can recycle my maternity and baby clothing with the same seasons.

  • @PensiveCrayon YAASSS!!!!!! SO HAPPY!!!
  • @PensiveCrayon Congrats!!! My DD was supposed to be a J16 baby, but was 8 days late (a jerk, like your LO, haha) and was a Feb16 baby, so our kiddos are similar in age. Are you excited about the age gap? I think the only thing I'm worried about is I hear 3 is a nightmare and my DD will be turning three 2 months after this baby is born. So...hopefully it's not as bad as I hear?
  • @maureenmce He's actually only 14.5 months now...a J17 baby ;) But the two under two thing we'll have going on for a couple weeks will certainly be interesting!

  • @PensiveCrayon Oh, gotcha. I think I got confused because I seriously feel like January 2016 *just happened* but it has obviously been at least 2 years, since I have a 2 year old, haha. Re: age gap, in some ways I feel like the smaller age gap will be a bit easier, since you (hopefully) won't be too badly into the tantrum-y part of 2's when you're in the newborn phase. But I don't think there's any "easy" age gap, when it comes to toddlers and babies, haha. We'll all survive somehow though!

I'm going to straight up die lol. Definitely sleepervised for a good two hours yesterday while my kids watched TV. I don't remember ever getting hit with first tri exhaustion this badly before. However, I've always had complicated pregnancies right from the start and (so far) this one is looking totally normal, so it's a trade off I'm willing to make!

  • I’m so excited to tell the kids, but we’ll probably hold off for a few months and make sure everything looks okay. They loooooove their baby cousin and babies in general. Also, I’m hoping they’re old enough that it’s not a total shitshow when LO comes (they’ll be 4 and almost 7 at that point). I guess we’ll handle it one way or another.

  • I just found out I’m pregnant with my second. I’m still in shock but I definitely wanted to have another at some point. I read someone else share a fear of handling two and that’s how I’m feeling. My partner is in his second year of medical school and I’m applying to medical school this summer. So, I’m a little scared about how we’re going to adjust to the new changes but I’m grateful.
