UO (Unpopular Opinion) Thursday!

This is always a fun way to get to know each other. (Though my UO's are so boring, I swear I am trying, haha.) Anyway, let's get this going - what are your unpopular opinions?

Here are mine: turkey bacon is better than regular bacon, Seinfeld is incredibly overrated (Curb Your Enthusiasm is somewhat similar but much better!) and chocolate ice cream is probably the worst flavor of ice cream.

Re: UO (Unpopular Opinion) Thursday!

  • +1 for being anti-Seinfeld.

  • Well you’re one for three....

Mine this week is that hating a popular thing is just s roundabout way to be cool and popular, particularly if you’re vocal about it.
  • I’m not a Seinfeld fan either! DH likes curb your enthusiasm. I have to leave the room any time he watches it because I can’t stand the sound of his voice!

  • Gonna get these out there now, because they will make some of you despise me so we might as well get it over with:

    1. The Princess Bride is a terrible, extremely annoying movie.
    2. Potatoes in any form are disgusting.
  • @AGK2015 in any form? How do you live???
  • @celette482 Replace all chips or fries with popcorn (and butter!). Replace all mashed or baked or smashed or roasted potatoes with pasta. Grits or oatmeal instead of home fries or hash browns, more carrots and celery in things like soups and stew.  Avoid disgusting nonsense like shepherds pie and cheesy potatoes (why not just do mac and cheese?!). Life is delicious!

I can't think of many things worse than shepherd's pie  :s:s:s

  • @AGK2015 all of those foods are delicious too. I just can’t live a life on half a carb. What are your thoughts on sweet potatoes?

@kadeephd WE are expecting a child. I am pregnant. Them’s the rules.

preggo or preggers sounds like a desperate attempt to not be too precious, which in turn becomes precious. “I’m cool and chill. I’m a preggo.”  Blargh.

which makes me wonder how you could truly avoid being overly precious and the best I could come up with is to stare blankly at people when they ask if you’re pregnant and otherwise never mention it. I can see myself at 36 weeks. “What do you mean, when am I due?”
  • Preggo just makes me think of spaghetti sauce  :D:D

That is *exactly* what I tell people. I cannot stand the "we" are pregnant stuff, because "we" are not having morning sickness or heartburn or enduring 27 hours of labor or whatever, haha. Also, @celette482 with the hating popular things just to be cool, I am SO over people bragging about how they don't like or have never watched an episode of Game of Thrones! I mean...congrats? I guess? I don't get making a huge point out of it! (Outside of a UO thread, of course, haha.)

@AGK2015 I'm still just trying to figure out a life without potatoes. I have potatoes or sweet potatoes probably 3-4 times a week! Not to mention french fries, I mean wow! Honestly, I'm impressed!  Also, +1 to everything you wrote about pregnancy. I think it's so, so, so important for FTMs to know that it's okay if you hate being pregnant. Because honestly? It can be incredibly difficult. I had awful morning sickness the first time around, then ended up with sciatic nerve pain so bad I had to walk with a cane the last couple months. I hated it. Love my daughter, so, so grateful to be pregnant again after 2 losses, but yeah, pregnancy is not a walk in the park for many of us and it's fine to say so!
  • Urg. It's all coming back to me.  At 34 weeks I started getting pregnancy carpal tunnel.  By the end of pregnancy, I was in tears because my hands were numb and tingly and so painful.  I had to sleep with wrist braces.  I was so sexy; it's a wonder I've been impregnated again  ;);)

  • I feel like sweet potatoes have a better taste but the same texture, so I'm still not a huge fan of the sweet potatoes I've tried (although I'll admit I've had much less exposure to them).

I do keep trying the whole potato thing from time to time! And every time, without fail, they're still pretty gross.
  • @AGK2015 Yep. You're broken.  :D

  • @AGK2015 I'm sure I will, because moar potatoes for meeeee!

  • UO: I love animals, I still to this day turn my car around to try and catch strays, but I don’t like pet parents trying to compare their duties to their pets to mine to my human children.

    There, I said it!

  • Haha @Mazinator I worked in a vet clinic growing up and I always laughed at the pet owners that would bring in their pets with the bedazzled clothing, complete with matching ultra-plush bed and blanket and they'd spend like 5 minutes saying goodbye and walk out with eyes tearing. I have loved animals all my life but there is a thin line...

Not a fan of Seinfeld, have an okay relationship with potatoes and on the fence about the "preggers" thing. I wouldnt refer to myself as that. My DH definitely doesn't say "we", he knows better lol.

Also, a semi-serious one: I hated pregnancy the first time around. I still loved my baby fiercely once she was born (even though I kinda despised her as a fetus), and it's not like I had a particularly rough or complicated pregnancy, but I hated it all the same. I didn't know that was even allowed because everybody told me pregnancy was supposed to be awesome, and I felt really bad about not just being grateful, but I was miserable nonetheless.

Throwing that out there because I know we've got some first time moms here who might end up feeling the same way I did (especially since the first trimester seems to be pretty rough), and I just want you guys to hear early on that you're not a bad mom because of it, nor a bad person, and that, importantly, you're not alone if you don't get the warm fuzzies from this whole process.

ETA: .... But I hope you all DO get the warm fuzzies from it, in case that wasn't clear. I'm not sure what the official breakdown is, but I do know plenty of people who absolutely loved every second of their 40 weeks. Your feelings about your pregnancy are valid, whatever they are <3
I'm right there with you! I f***ing HATE being pregnant it is frigin miserable! And I am terrified of having to give birth again but that precious tiny creacher that comes tearing out of you is the most amazing thing on earth and totally worth all the suffering.
