Newborn Family Costume

Okay, I know it is March and super early but has anyone started planning cute Halloween costumes for their family with a newborn? So far, I've only thought of having my husband and I wear our football team jerseys (he's Ravens, I'm Redskins) and having the baby in a split onesie half and half. But that's not really a costume per se...

Ideas!?!? I'm more excited for Halloween this year than I've ever been!

  • @sammierose464 ohhhh my goodness that is way too much cuteness in that picture! I absolutely love that idea!

I haven't given much thought up until now, seeing this post lol. My due date is the 24th, and I'm really hoping I can push it for a Halloween baby honestly. But now you've given me something totally cute and fun to think about! I definitely wanna dress our family up if baby comes early or on time.
  • haha I have totally thought about it! I was thinking Peter Pan. I will wear baby and trick or treat with DS. So some tinker bell wings for the carrier or maybe a butterfly if DS wants something else. We don't have to "match"

  • @JTemp12 fellow Redskins fan! DS newborn photos were Redskins so I’m going to add one for fun!

I have definitely been been thinking about it! With a 10/2 DD I’m hoping to do Halloween newborn photos. Maybe naked baby in a pumpkin hat. There are a lot of good baby wearing Halloween costume ideas that could work for a costume.

  • @Lisa3379 that is adorable!!!

On a related note. Any websites recommended for infant costumes?
  • @JTemp12 how about you and DH in the jerseys and baby as a football. Just realize there will probably be jokes about don't spike or throw the ball/baby. Ooh how about baby as the referee??
This is our first so I doubt we will dress up. Might dress the kid up if we go to family or something but not planning on trick or treating or going to any big Halloween parties.
  • I’m due on the 27th so I’ll have a very tiny one on Halloween, but my older ones will go out.  I will probably just load up the baby in a carrier.

I was kinda sad that we would have such a tiny baby this Halloween, since this would be the first Halloween my son (who will be 22 months then) will really participate in - I think. I’m hoping the baby isn’t too late that I can experience trick or treating with him. I dunno, maybe that’s a silly thing to be bummed over. I’m blaming the hormones  :D
  • I’m not sure what we’ll do, but we’re definitely doing something. I go big for Halloween. DD1 will have an opinion about her costume so I’ll probably just try and steer her towards something I can include the whole family in. Last year we were mermaids and H was king triton, year before that we were characters from Winnie the Pooh, and the year before that we did Star Wars bc she was in an epic shrieking phase and sounded like Chewbacca all the time.

  • I would love for my husband and the baby to try and be Kuato from Total Recall for Halloween. I'm thinking front carrier for baby, green jacket for the husband. If only baby child could say "start the reactor."
  • @rc-cola omg thats hilarious

I'd like to think we will be cute and have a matching  family costume since we usually go all out every year but the reality is I'll probably be lazy and just get a cute Halloween onesie. DH and I did Jurassic World a couple years ago where I made a very elaborate velociraptor costume to be blue and he was Owen. He has offered up the idea of reusing his costume, and baby and me can be a dinos. The new movie is coming out soon so seems relevant haha
  • When I was pregnant with my twins I saw a cute family costume where the baby was a hotdog, the stroller was a hotdog cart and mom dressed up like a hotdog vendor. I was a little bummed that mine would be too big for that by the time Halloween came around. Now that I’ll have a little baby and can do it, I probably won’t. It’s usually cold here on Halloween (like there’s a decent chance it will snow cold), so I’m not sure I’ll even feel like going out.  I may send my husband with the older two and stay home with baby and lights off to avoid even answering the door until they get home and can do it. Of course, that could just be the hormones talking, since I’m pretty much hating anything that requires thinking or action from me right now.

  • If baby comes on time, (and event goes well) we will be released on Halloween. Not sure I'm going to feel like trick or treating with DS (he will be 2, so still kind of eh about it). But I love family costumes!
  • When my last one was still little we did little red riding hood for our church fall festival. My 2nd was Red, the baby was a wolf, and the then 2 year old was grandma.
  • we are thinking of the Addams Family. as far as baby goes, it will probably be cold enough that it won't matter because it will be hidden in a carrier.

    @chopchop25 ahh!! I love it!
  • We won't do matching, but I'll be kicking down the hospital door to get my ass out of there for Halloween. (Says the lady with the 10/27ish due date. Is it bad I don't know my actual due date? Sorry third kid...) I love taking my kids around the neighborhood, so I'll be bummed if I miss it. I really hope this kid breaks my kids' trend of showing up late or with my luck we'll end up delivering on the 31st!

  • @eireyes DS was due 12/21. Went into labor on 12/22 but stubborn kid didn’t show up until 12/24. They rushed all their tests and whatever to get us home by Christmas afternoon. So hopefully you can make it home by Halloween.
  • Love all these ideas! Baby is due 10/17 so I am hoping we can do a family theme! Of course last year I slacked off and only DD ended up in a costume lol! She is really into Mickey Mouse and PJ Masks so we may let her decide her costume and then just go from there.  She really enjoyed trick or treating last year so I plan to walk around our street with baby in a carrier if all goes well.
  • @tinattt23 I hope so! I'm hoping that this kid is the least medically challenging of my three (DS had blood sugar issues, DD had some pretty serious jaundice) and we'll be released in no time, but I also know that I'll deal with whatever gets thrown my way so it is what it is

I am a huuuuge Halloween person so I'm loving the March planning for costumes!

I'm undecided but am currently considering these family options: The Incredibles, cast of Aladdin (Jasmine, Jafar, and the baby as Iago lol), cast of Ratatouille (we dress up as chefs and put the baby in a mouse costumer lol), cast of The Wizard of Oz (just so i can dress my baby up in a cute warm lion costume lol), The Addams Family, or Cruella DeVille and dalmations. Plenty of time to keep thinking though :)
