Re: Fit Mom Friday (3/23)

  • What are you doing this week to stay fit? I had a few days of nausea and some other family drama so I only made it to the gym twice this week  :s I really need to get back on track this weekend and next week.

What is your favorite pregnancy safe exercise this week?
Light weights with high reps. And spinning because that’s always my favorite!

Any good healthy recipes to share?
Shredded chicken tacos! I don’t really have a recipe but I put two chicken breasts in the crock pot with half a packet of fajita skillet sauce. In about 4-5 hours it’s ready to be shredded and add any toppings you like! I prefer peppers, onions, avocado, and cilantro.

  • What are you doing this week to stay fit? Started off strong with workouts, but downhill from there with happy hours and things. Hoping to get back on it this weekend. Food has just been a hot mess.

What is your favorite pregnancy safe exercise this week?
Not my favorite this week, but have been pushing through a boxer arms workout that's only 20 min. I like that I notice a difference after doing it a few times.

Any good healthy recipes to share?
@spartan4life that taco idea sounds great - thank you for sharing! We've been pretty boring lately when we've been healthy - just baked or grilled chicken w/ rice and veg.

What are you doing this week to stay fit? I just started to exercise again this week now that I'm starting to feel better.  I miss having energy and feeling strong.

I actually got this one from The Bump, I made it on Sunday and me and DH really enjoyed it! We had it with some microwavable brown rice from Trader Joe's.

    Korean Beef Broccoli
    Serves 4

    Ingredients:
1 lb. beef top sirloin or rib eye, thinly sliced
    1 heaping Tbl. garlic, minced
    2 Tbl. onion, grated
    3 Tbl. soy sauce
    1 Tbl. sugar
    1 Tbl. honey
    1 Tbl. sesame oil
1 Tbl. sesame seeds, plus more for garnish
Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
4 cups broccoli florets, halved lengthwise
    Water, as needed
1 scallion, sliced into thin strips, for garnish

    Directions:

    1. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the beef, garlic, onion, soy sauce, sugar, honey, sesame oil, sesame seeds and pepper. Seal and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours.
    2. Steam or boil the broccoli until cooked but still firm. Set aside to cool.
    3. Heat a saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the beef, shaking off any marinade, and cook, stirring frequently, for 3 to 6 minutes, or until done. Add the broccoli during the last 2 minutes of cooking, to heat and coat it with the cooking juices. If the pan gets too dry, add a little water. Garnish with sliced scallions and serve.

@spartan4life One of my biggest cravings this pregnancy has been tacos, but the fresh limey slaw kind vs greasy beef.  DH has been killing it with cooking me both steak and chicken tacos with lime and fresh greek yogurt and cilantro sauce.  The shredded chicken sounds so yummy and easy using the crock pot.  We have to try it!

This week has been difficult! I was supposed to run a half marathon on Sunday but I decided not to go forward with it because I’ve been so tired lately. I did get a few runs, climbs, and swims in.

What is your favorite pregnancy safe exercise this week?
TB suggests that rock climbing isn’t pregnancy safe, but I talked with my OB and she said it was fine. They actually make a pregnancy harness that helps shift the impact. Here is a study as well—

Anyway sharing in case there are other climbers here who have been wondering. Bottom line follow your OBs advice.

Oh, @spartan4life and @KFrob speaking of shredded chicken tacos! A friend of mine shared a life changing tip this week on how to shred chicken in 20 seconds. That chicken you have been cooking in a crockpot? Take your hand mixer and put it directly into the crockpot once the chicken is cooked and turn it on for about 20 seconds. Viola shredded chicken!

    @ladyofarlington That is life changing!
  • What are you doing this week to stay fit?

I’ve had to change up my normal routine during the first trimester due to lack of energy and nausea.  I’ve been alternating Shaun T’s cardio videos from his series insane focus (all 30 min) and 30 min Core De Force kickboxing videos.

What is your favorite pregnancy safe exercise this week?

sticking with the beachbody videos.  I miss running!!  But we did IVF and I’m on week 9 of daily IM progesterone injections which has made me butt muscles way too sore to run.  Hoping to get back to running in a few weeks when the shots are done!!

Any good healthy recipes to share?

This is my biggest struggle.  Food.  I’d been eating whole 30 but my morning sickness (all day is more like it) has made me eat whatever I can keep down.  Lots of cereal and scrambled eggs and toast.
  • I'm riding the struggle bus lately with regards to keeping up my running training plan. I've skipped my short runs three weeks in a row (only two miles, but still). I'm constantly mildly nauseous, and just flat wiped out. We (mostly me) have been prepping the guest bedroom for DD to move into and her furniture arrives this weekend, so I'm busting my butt to get the painting and everything else done before it gets here. I have a six mile run tomorrow I need to do, but the thought of doing it makes me want to die right now. My only saving grace is that mornings are the one time I feel mostly human, so I just need to get out of bed and go before I can feel crappy.

  • I walked a lot, but that's it. Fighting the fatigue and nausea big time this week.

    Walking :).

I've been craving and making spinach smoothies this week (spinach, almond milk, Greek yogurt, a frozen banana, and a Tbsp or two of peanut butter).
  • @chopchop25 This is similar but I dont use vinegar. I also Don’t cook the orzo before. I sauteed some garlic in butter, than add the orzo and let it brown for a min and then add the broth and spinach. Let it simmer covered for about 15 mins, when done add paremesan
