New contender.. baby girl #3

edited March 2018 in Baby Names
so last poll was
Ivy Paige
vs
Scarlett Anne

My DS suggested Ruby
and it’s growing on me...

my other children are
Lily Grace
James Michael
Rose Harper

Someone had said the Rose and Scarlett thing was odd because they’re both shades of red... but it doesn’t bother me because I think of the flower not color with Rose

and apparently I like red names lol..

open to middle bame suggestions
but as of now, I like Ruby Jane

open to suggestions as well! Thanks!

Re: New contender.. baby girl #3

  • While I don’t dislike Ruby it’s still a shade of red and I wouldn’t do Rose and Ruby as siblings it’s actually more obvious than Scarlett Imo

  • I love Ruby.  The similarities between Ruby and Rose would bother me though.
  • Loading the player...
  • Love your list, but my favorite is still Ivy. Great names though and great sib-set regardless of which name you choose!
  • I really like all the names, but I voted for Scarlett again. It’s a tough choice though! Good luck.
  • Dang you guys are making this hard!
    The poll is pretty close
    6, 9, & 8 respectively...

thank goodness I have 18 weeks left to decide

Scarlett, I love but my MIL is insistent people will shorten it to “Scar” and is anti-Scarlett because of that

Ruby I love but, not sure if it transitions to an adult well, if it sounds too little girl-ish

Ivy I like, but my mother in law loves. It’s growing on me but I’m just not sold for whatever reason...
maybe because it wasn’t my idea? Lol I’m not sure

    all input is appreciated!!
    TIA

  • As of now Ruby is in the lead... those that voted Ruby ...

how do you think the name ages?

    And

do you not think it’s too matchy/close to Rose?

just curious as those are my only concerns with it

    Thanks!

  • I had an aunt named Ruby Rose so it's funny to me how many people think they shouldn't be used for siblings!

  • Scarlett, I love but my MIL is insistent people will shorten it to “Scar” and is anti-Scarlett because of that

You actually have a ton of control over this.  My name has a very common diminutive nickname that I never go by and the first syllable of my name is a man's name.  If people use either of those shortened versions, I just politely but firmly say, "Oh, I never go by that.  Just call me ___________."
If you really like Scarlett, don't let your MIL's worry about her being called "Scar" stop you.

  • Ruby and Rose as siblings are matchy but also having Lily be odd girl out makes it a little strange. But in most cases throughout her life, Ruby will be an individual and not a list of sisters.  I like the name Ruby a lot and I think it ages fine.
  • I think that Ruby ages just as well as Lily. I will admit that Ruby and Rose are a little matchy, but not too much so that it is unusable. I loved for Ruby.

Ivy is NMS and Scarlett is Just to close to harlot for me to get behind.

  • Hearing Ruby and Rose together doesn’t make me think of the color red, it makes me think of the actress from Orange is the New Black- Ruby Rose
  • Scarlett is becoming very popular lately. I am not sure if that impacts your decision, but it’s something to be aware of.
  • You’re giving your MIL a lot of say in this...!

I find Ivy to be a bit much with Rose and Lilly - quite the plant theme.

Ruby is adorable but still a little too close.

That leaves Scarlett, which is a nice name.
  • I voted Ivy.

I feel like it fits with your nature theme but isn’t too matchy with Rose like Ruby is.
I will say I don’t like to repeat first letter initials.
