Lovenox Users

I know there are a few of us here!

Is it getting tougher for anyone else? Having trouble finding a non sensitive spot, and it almost feels like my skin is getting thicker/tougher to inject. Any recommendations?

Specific question aside, figured maybe we can continue to use tis a general thread as we have any questions/issues/concerns throughout the next few months.

Re: Lovenox Users

  • I’m getting pretty bad bruises on my abdomen. I was doing okay with them once a day but my doctor upped them to twice a day.  I talked to the nurse at the hematologist yesterday and she suggested injecting in my thighs so I’m going to try that.  Icing the site before and after is helping me with sensitivity.

  • Ugh @lilyaster I'm sorry you had to up the dose. Icing is definitely helping me with the bruises, but not with area sensitivity the next day. Will ask doc about thigh - it'd be nice to have some more area options!
  • I just stared mine about a week ago, so I’m not quite at that point yet with the sensitivity. I do have a couple bruises and a few spots that feel sore. I try and alternate sides each night to give the spots a little time to heal.

@lilyaster it’s interesting that your nurse told you to try your thigh. I did IVF in January and all of those meds were subcutaneous injections, and then I had to do progesterone, which is intramuscular. The subcutaneous went into the belly and intramuscular went into the butt, but some people do them in the thigh muscle. So it seems strange that the Lovenox can go into the thigh since it’s subcutaneous. I am not a doctor, and for sure listen to your nurses, but that seems a little strange to me.
  • There’s a good active FB group for lovenox moms- I’ve seen some that are told they can inject in the thighs and others have been told not to.  A SQ needle is a good bit shorter than an IM needle, so I know I’m just going into fat.  Absorption may not be as good in the thigh so I’m planning to do one thigh per day and one abdomen per day, we’ll see if that cuts down on the bruising.
