Wednesday Ticker Change (week of 3/21)

Ticker change simply means that you have started a new week of pregnancy.  For example, I go from 11 weeks to 12 weeks on Wednesday 3/21, so my “ticker” changes on Wednesdays. It is our way of marking a milestone.

Questions stolen from Sunday.

1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?

2. How are you feeling?

3. Any appointments this week?

4. Rants/raves/questions?

5. GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Re: Wednesday Ticker Change (week of 3/21)

  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?

12w, the size of a hacky sack!

    2. How are you feeling?

Physically not bad, but the emotional roller coasters is real

    3. Any appointments this week?

I get my NIPT results back this week, and have an appointment with the OB on Friday, where hopefully I get to hear the heartbeat.

    4. Rants/raves/questions?

This whole emotional roller coaster has me wondering if there is the pregnant woman equivalent of a Bridezilla.  I’m worried I might turn into one...

    5. GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Cuenca, Ecuador, followed by Aberyswyth, Wales.  When I imagine quitting my job and running away, it is usually to a small apartment in one of these places with my camera, a laptop, and my cat. (Sorry dog, you’d have to stay with my parents for a while.)

  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?  10w, size of a strawberry!  Also, this is my first time posting, but I’ve been reading along with you all for several weeks now.  So

  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?

    12 weeks! Plum!

    2. How are you feeling?

I have more energy but headaches come and go still. And my sleep has been erratic.

    3. Any appointments this week?

    Yes! Finally tomorrow!

    4. Rants/raves/questions?

I can’t tell if I have a bump or if I’ve just rounded out a bit because I’ve been so hungry all the time already.

    5. GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’d like to live a year in the Pacific Northwest and hike every day.

  • @jenaruba08

Welcome to the group!  You might want to check your post- I think the Bump might have eaten part of it.

Also - you should pop into the introduction thread if you haven’t already, so everyone can start to get to know you!

Looking forward to having you along with us!
  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?

    3. Any appointments this week?

Nope :( next appointment is 4/2

    4. Rants/raves/questions?

If you have congestion- have you tried saline nasal spray?

My allergies just kicked in last Friday, and the only decongestant that works for me is on the “definitely do not take during pregnancy- especially the 1st Trimester” list.  I have long avoided any of the nose sprays due to the yuck factor, but I broke down and got some saline spray.  It worked like a charm; I can breathe better than I have in weeks.
  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?

    12 weeks - plum sized!

    2. How are you feeling?

Getting energy back! Naseua is still dicey in the morning or if I go too long without a snack.

    3. Any appointments this week?

NT screening on Friday! I’m just excited to see the little thing again :)

    4. Rants/raves/questions?

When does 2nd trimester start? FF says today, but I’ve heard as late as the end of week 13.

    5. GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

New Zealand or Scotland, I think. Although the PNW isn’t bad @rc-cola, but I’m not a fan of hiking in the rain :)

@knottieamusements I hadn’t even considered allergies. I’ll keep that in mind for when cottonwood season rolls around...

    @jenaruba08 welcome!

  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?

9 weeks - I still have no idea

    2. How are you feeling?

Better, nausea is mostly gone.  Tiredness depends on how well I’m sleeping, which is hit or miss.

    3. Any appointments this week?

    Ultrasound in 20 mins!

    4. Rants/raves/questions?

    Nope

    5. GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I think about this all the time and honestly I don’t know. Probably stay where I am and just travel for months at a time.

  • @halfanewt - I’m going with second trimester starts in the middle of week 13 since 40/3 = 13.33.

But I’m seriously considering letting the rest of my people know this weekend or early next week instead of waiting more.  (I’m just waiting for my NIPT results and to hear baby’s heartbeat before I do that.)

Last pregnancy I waited until after the NT ultrasound.  We didn’t even wait for the results of the blood test.  I went in to work after my appointment and told my boss immediately. I was so tired of trying to find clothes to hide it.

  • @purplegoldfish2- I actually told my boss about a month ago. It was actually a conversation with him yesterday that has me considering moving the announcement plans up.

He’s doing really good keeping it to himself, but I didn’t realize how awkward a position I had put him, and other acquaintances who know, in.  I wouldn’t have told them if I didn’t think they could keep it private, but at the same time, now they are keeping a secret for me, and that is hard.

@halfanewt I’ve also heard end of 13th week. If a pregnancy is considered 40 weeks then end of 13th is about a third of the way. Also love Scotland!
  • I told my boss right away, but that was because my coworker was also pregnant. We have had a lot of full day vendor meetings and I've been miserable, so I felt it was best to tell them.
  • @knottieamusements somehow I missed your much more precise calculation.

I also told my boss awhile ago and am going to tell everyone else after the NT tomorrow.
  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?

9 weeks. The size of a postage stamp.

    2. How are you feeling?

Today, bummed and irritated w. myself. Other than that, good. Haven't had morning sickness for a few days.

    3. Any appointments this week?

Thought my first one was today. It's tomorrow. SO got the day off for no reason and now he won't be able to see the first ultrasound. Really upset about that.

    4. Rants/raves/questions?

I'm just extremely upset with myself for this silly mistake. I was so excited for today and now I have to wait another day. Which isn't a big deal. I just really wanted my SO there with me.

    5. GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

    Arizona

  • I’m getting excited to announce to friends, and the end (or even middle) of 13 weeks feels like a looong wait.

Regarding work - right now I want to wait until I can no longer physically hide it. After dealing with IF and the number of (granted unintentionally) insensitive comments from bosses, I’m definitely in the “it’s none of yourself business” mindset.

Is the NIPT test just a one time blood draw? If so, I should get results next week. Maybe I’ll do 13 weeks to tell friends. Hmm.
  • @knottieamusements thanks for the tip. I will definitely try that tonight.  I have never been a fan of the nose sprays but I am desperate! I have some mild congestion and I am also off of my allergy meds so that is making it worse. I mostly have a bad cough and my asthma is flaring up from this cold. I have also been drinking hot tea and using steam to help loosen things up.
  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby? 10 weeks - strawberry(?)

    2. How are you feeling? pretty gross still

    3. Any appointments this week?  I had one this morning, but she wouldn't even try to listen for a heartbeat, which means i have to wait another 4 weeks.  Over my dead body.

    4. Rants/raves/questions? They left it up to me to choose between the NIPT screen and the NT scan.  Why would any one leave that up to me?  I have no idea!  Just tell me what to do, it's YOUR job!  As a generally low risk pregnancy, with the only issue being AMA, i'm leaning towards the NIPT.  Is that the right choice?  Argh.

    5. GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?  I'm leaning towards Iceland, because it is such a beautiful country, but i fear the winters might kill me.  Maybe the south of France?  :)

  • @jengibre_zorro You could also opt for neither.  With our twins, we did the NT because my husband wanted the ultrasound to make sure everything was ok.  I don’t even know if NIPT was available, but it wasn’t offered and we didn’t know about it.  This time we are considering not doing either even though I’m AMA and had multiple m/cs right before this pregnancy.  There was a great explaination on the genetic testing thread of what NIPT actually is/does and despite my impressions that it would tell us definitively if there was a problem, it turns out it is another screening test.  I know that no matter what the results are, I would not opt for the amino, so there really isn’t a point for us. I am also scheduled for an ultrasound at 10w6d, which is close enough to 12 weeks for him to be good with skipping the NT too. Even if our insurance covers them (which I’m not sure it will) we have a high deductible so we’d have to pay for it anyway.

  • I saw a maternal fetal medicine Dr about the Maternit 21 plus test today. My Dr is very confident in it. It's 99.4% accurate and is a yes or no for several chromosomal disorders.

It's really up to you. I'm low risk, the only reason we did it is due to convience of timing with needing my appt today and being one week shy of the NT scan.
  • Thanks, @purplegoldfish2!  I have been following the genetic testing thread, too.  I'm in the same boat with the high deductible, but with multiple ultrasounds this go around, i figure its inevitable that i hit that number before this kid is even born.  I would have to go to another hospital for the NT, so i'm leaning towards NIPT, because laziness.
  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?

    8w1d (Edd 10/31), I've got a raspberry

    2. How are you feeling?

Great.  I just need rest overnight and I'm good.  The constant peeing and dreams on top of my 3yo waking up makes ita  bit challenging.

    3. Any appointments this week?

Yes, just had my first prenatal and ultrasound this week.  Best feeling ever to see that little heart fluttering!

    4. Rants/raves/questions?

Bloat is finally down and I can fit into my regular pants again.  It's a good feeling!  Haven't moved into maternity wear yet but I know its coming soon, waiting until we tell family at Easter before I buy anything.

Also, I cannot wait until we go for our NIPT and get the results back - still a month out though.  Ugh!!

    5. GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

At this point in my life, exactly where I'm at.  I need my village!!  In the future - beachside!  Water makes me happy :)

  • 1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby? 9 weeks (and now 1 day) Raspberry or piece of popcorn

    2. How are you feeling? Mostly OK. Lots of pressure down there and I swear movement. I think its just pressure though as its way too early for movement

    3. Any appointments this week? I had my 3 hour glucose Tuesday and miraculously passed it.

    4. Rants/raves/questions? Anyone know if I'll have to do the glucose test again at 20 weeks? The only reason I did it early was because I was diabetic with my first baby.

    5. GTKY: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? I love Michigan. Probably Leelanau Pennisula.
