Re: Questions | week of 3/4

  • Does anyone know anything about using teeth whitening strips while pregnant? I bought some just before I got my BFP and I really want to use them. Dr. Google leans toward no and obviously I will ask my OB when I go in on Friday, but I was just wondering if anyone had been advised against them in the past.

  • @offtoneverland thank you! It's good to know that it's normal for symptoms to disappear for a while. I was nauseated today again for the first time in a while. As grumpy as that made me, I was happy haha. You have fabulously us advice! You are so right. I have to choose to be optimistic. Realizing that has helped today. And I was able to talk to DH about my fears, and he helped ease them, reminded me that baby is in a good position. Now I just have to remember to breathe and try to relax haha

@lifesabeach85 oh my gosh!!! I can't tell you how excited you just made me!! With "now you're a mom". Such a freaking amazing thought!!!!!!!
My family is taking a trip to Europe in July, so I'm trying to help plan that. But keep getting distracted researching baby things. But then I get scared that I'm getting ahead of myself. But I guess I have to remember to be optimistic!

@linz36 congratulations!! I am so stoked for you!!! I know what you mean about it not feeling real. I wish I could crochet! That's a brilliant idea! I admit, I have POAS several times haha. I have one left that I'm sure I will use to reassure myself in the coming week haha

You ladies are incredible!! Thank you for taking the time to help me! You truly have made me feel better and I really appreciate it!

  • @linz36 I think POAS every morning is making me more stressed out!  It’s not getting any darker and it’s making me worry.  My RE isn’t having me go for my second beta until next Monday so I know it’s going to be a really really long week!

  • Question about TSH levels in pregnancy. So I did IVF. Before IVF, my TSH was jut Meh. Not super low, but not high enough to treat (around 2). Once I started stims, It started increasing, getting to be about 3.5. They started me on Synthroid. After FET, it was even higher, around 5.0, so they increased my dose. It has gone down since then, but still pretty high at around 4. We are increasing my dose again, but anyone have any insight? What kind of issues can this cause for baby or for me?

So many people do this but I have never been compelled to take more than 1 test per pregnancy.  I feel like that would make me lose my mind and I'd be analyzing nonsense all day like is this lighter than yesterday, or did yesterdays darken overnight?!
  • @Eveinshock same! HPTs give me a lot of anxiety so I actually put off taking one until I was 5 days late, and then I just took a digi, and got blood work at the dr two days later. Otherwise I would drive myself batty looking at the lines

  • @Eveinshock Yea.  I've decided to stop.  I'm only going to stress myself out more.  When I got my positive I was actually expecting a negative (my beta was supposed to be today) I was taking the test to that I would know ahead of time what it was before the beta because I didn't want to be upset when I got the call while at work.  I almost wish my second beta was sooner because it would help ease my mind a bit.

I was also 5 days late before I took a test! My cycle has been all over the place since I had my 1 year old and I can't tell when I ovulate anymore.  I wasn't planning this pregancy so I just really randomly took a test bc I had one there. The test line came up before I even pulled it out of the stream and was there a while before the control even came up. I was like oh well this test is a dud....  Nope. Not a dud...
  • @marfi236 I don’t try compare the color of the line...I just check that there still is a line. I think after waiting for so long it feels like a dream so I need to see it. I’m sure I’ll stop soon!

  • Eh. Do whatever you need to do to feel secure. If that means POAS every day, then do it. There's nothing wrong with testing more than once; it doesn't hurt anything. I took a digital, 5 FRERs, and about 15 Wondfos with this pregnancy. I would've kept testing but I ran out and didn't want to waste any more money on HPTs. With my daughter, I only took 2 FRERs and that was it, but PGAL brain this time around made me really nervous and testing made me feel better.

  • @KristoKekerooni synthroid/levothyroxine are class a drugs meaning they’re safe to take during pregnancy. From what I’ve read you want a lower tsh level because your baby doesn’t produce it’s own thyroid hormone for a while. Have you had any symptoms taking the medications? I was on 25mcg then went up to 50mcg a couple weeks ago but haven’t noticed any differences I actually had to get another blood test today. My levels were 3.7 then 2.8...I’m so tired I wonder if upping the dose would help!

So much this. I've got 2 more FRERs I'll probably use, and I'm 5w 3d today. When you've had more losses than take home babies or gone through infertility it's so hard to not freak out about every little thing (any cramps, lack of symptoms, etc). At least for me it is.

  • Sooo the Internetz says it’s okay to tummy sleep while pregnant as long as it’s comfy still for you. I love sleeping on my tummy, but I feel like I shouldn’t. Do you ladies still tummy sleep or have you adjusted your sleeping position?
    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • @pink_polkadots I can't imagine that it's dangerous at this point. I mean, none of the uterus is sticking out yet. I think you're good for at least until your next ob appointment, you can ask for guidelines then.
  • @KristoKekerooni I've got hypothyroidism too.  Demand for thyroid hormone goes up early in pregnancy which increases TSH.  My OB was very clear that she wanted me under 2.5 before we started TTC and my Endocrinologist lowered that to 2.  Lack of thyroid hormone increases the risk of miscarriage because the embryo relies on your thyroid hormone levels for its own development so it's definitely something to make sure you keep a handle on.  Worth nothing, I'd you plan on breastfeeding, your thyroid being wonky can impact milk supply.  My hypo was caught because of my milk issues.

@pink_polkadots I literally sleep on my stomach until the day I deliver. I use a body pillow (even when I'm not pregnant) and just prop my hip up. Don't stress!
  • @offtoneverland @mockingjay1

YES! This makes me feel so much better. I POAS every morning (just dollar store ones) and when that line shows up, I tell myself “For today, you are pregnant” and it helps me with the anxiety. I’m 6w1d today!

I discussed my feelings with my family dr on Friday (I will see my high risk ob-gyn at the beginning of April) and she sent me for beta testing followed by an US. When I called the ultrasound department, she said “oh yes, you’re the 36 year old diabetic who miscarried last year! How are you feeling?” and was SO kind and patient with me.

Every bit of kindness and encouragement (and seeing that line appear every morning) helps!
  • For those who have had beta draws: do they call you with the results??

Last Friday was my first OB appointment and even though the scheduling nurse indicated that I would be having an US at that time, the OB said no. However, she could tell I was nervous, so she added a beta draw to my labs for that day. Here it is at the end of the day on Tuesday and I still haven't heard anything, but I've never had a beta draw, so I don't really know what to expect. Should I call for results? Give them a few more days? I don't want to seen neurotic, but what was the point of "easing my mind with a beta draw" if they aren't giving me the results?!

  • @CopperBoom86 - yikes. That seems excessive. My RE office gave same day results by my ob office gives next day results. I’d call for sure! Sounds like they likely forgot to call with the results.

  • @CopperBoom86 I agree with @mockingjay1 -- I got next day results from my OB through the patient portal, and I got same day results from the RE. They definitely should have your result by now! I say call them, I don't think it's neurotic at all! I'm sorry they've been making you wait. :(

  • Definitely call, I got betas drawn today and they said they should have them back in 24 hours since they don't do them onsite.
  • Can I ask for some adviceabiut the first appointment and choosing a new provider? I wasn’t really sure where to put this.  I saw hospital based midwives for my last birth and liked them.  I moved about 40 minutes away and I am near another cnm midwife practice that I’ve heard great things about.  They do home or hospital births (about 25 mins away).  I called to make my appointment and they scheduled me for 10 weeks (may 1). I’m not sure if they do ultrasounds.   I was thinking maybe I should call the old practice and see if I could make an appointment there either before so I can confirm everything’s fine and maybe get an US or as a backup in case I don’t like the new place.  Is that weird? Would insurance wonder why I have 2 different appointments?  Is 10 Weeks normal and I should chill?
  • @CopperBoom86 Did you call yet?
@Clobert I would assume the midwives would be able to schedule you for an ultrasound to confirm your due date, even if they can't do ultrasounds there. They would probably have you do some blood work too to check your hcg levels. I don't think there's anything wrong with you making an appointment with the other practice for peace of mind though, but I also think it would be okay to wait until your 10-week appointment and see what the midwife says about a dating ultrasound. I'm sorry you have to wait until 10 weeks! I do think it's fairly "normal" to have to wait a while for the first appointment, especially if you're seeing a popular practice!

  • @Clobert I don’t think it’s weird at all. Lots of people change practices in a pregnancy and also shop around different practices. So you can definitely see both. You can also call the new place and just ask what their SOP is in terms of visits and ultrasounds. Tell them if you aren’t comfortable or want an earlier u/s, they might do it anyway!
