Nursery and your bedroom on different floors??

My bedroom is upstairs, and the nursery is on the main level.  Thus far the kids have either slept in a pack n play in our bedroom, or we have slept in the guest room (on the main level connected to the nursery).  Does anyone sleep on a separate floor from your babies?  I don't know why, but it freaks me out to be a whole floor away.  Our house is a small bungalow, but a flight of stairs just seems... far.  We have an alarm system and a 100lb dog, so it's not that I am afraid for safety reasons (although yes, I watch too much Law & Order) but it still scares me.  Anyone?

  • Nothing a little video monitor cant solve:)

Some days I would love it if my kids were on a different floor than me:)

  • We have the same set up in our house and we're still sleeping on the first floor with the babies.  We use the master suite upstairs (with walk-in closet and enormous bathroom) as our guest room while DH and I crowd into the back guest room with a tiny bathroom and zero closet space.  I don't know when we'll feel comfortable moving upstairs - even with a video monitor.  I thought we'd do it when they were 1, but that's only 2 months away and I don't see it happening.  Maybe when they're 18 months? Sorry - I'm no help at all!
  • I'm actually going to be in the same situation as you. I have my large bedroom upstairs and the nursery downstairs in the main level. We decided that we would stay in the guest room next to the nursery for a while, not sure for how long. The guest room is really small too with no closets, but it's a sacrifice that we are willing to make.
  • Ak!  I just wanted to say that your siggy pic is so stinkin' cute!
  • We've got the same situation -- bungalow home, master on 2nd floor, nursery on first. ?The monitor is great. ?They stayed in our room until 2.5 months, and then they transitioned easily to their nursery.

    It's actually quite nice :)?

  • We're there... We have a double master TH, and had planned on putting the baby in with DD, but now that it's babIES, we are going to put the twins in our room and move to the basement- 2 flights away!  I will sleep in the twins' room for 3-4 months like I did with DD (I coslept) and then move downstairs with the hubby.  We will use a video monitor.
