Subchorionic Hemorrhage and bed rest?

Hi all, I'm hoping to hear some positive experiences or at least some practical advise. I'm just over 6 weeks and have an SCH diagnosed through U/S today. Now, I am very happy that I am still pregnant as I had quite a bit of bleeding/cramping last week so I don't want to complain (too much), but my doctor wants me to go on a modified bed rest.  Has anyone experienced this so early on? Did it resolve and you were able to function normally? I'm very concerned on how to manage this and work. I can't lift over 10lbs. My cat is 14lbs.  I was also told that I can't have sex or even orgasm for the next 6 weeks!

Any advice is appreciated.

  • I'm all for doing what your doctor recommends, but that seems kind of extreme, honestly. I had an SCH with my first pregnancy. I had some bleeding and spotting early on, and then again at 13 weeks. My doctor said that 99% of the time, they clear up on their own, and it did. She told me not to go lifting hundred pound weights or anything, but that my usual activity was fine.

With my first i bleed all first tri and had to be in bedrest until about 14 wks. It wasn’t an SCH but i was told no sex or heavy lifting either.
This time around i had an SCH discovered at 7 wks and i experienced cramps and spotting for 3 days. I rested until it stopped and returned to normal activities. I was cleared for sex but to be safe i personally waiting till second tri. It all resolved itself and haven’t bled since.
Your doctor maybe playing it safe if it’s your first pregnancy or have had other issues.
  • It seemed a little overboard but at the same time I want to do what I can to have a healthy pregnancy.  This is my first pregnancy and it's been rough so far. I wasn't sure if he was being over cautious or if I didn't understand how serious it was

  • I would follow your doctor’s orders as much as possible, but I don’t think lifting your cat is going to hurt. I mean, I ran a 5k after I found out I had an SCH and I was fine.

I had an SCH with both my viable pregnancies. With my twins, I was put on pelvic rest and I took som etime off work because I am a nurse on a super busy floor and I was concerned about the risks. It resolved by 13w.

This pregnancy (Singleton) I was given no restrictions though I put myself on pelvic rest to be safe. It again was gone by 13 weeks and we are trucking along at 22 weeks now.

If you have questions or comcerns, definitely bring them up with your doctor.

I also had SCH last pregnancy but wasn't put on any restriction and ran a half marathon without a problem. It cleared itself and I had a healthy baby. I also have a SIL that had one and had quite a bit of bleeding from it but eventually it cleared for her too. Just follow doctor's directions and know that most do clear up. Fx it all works out for you!

  • I had a SCH with DD at 5w6d. Obeyed my doctor and took "pelvic rest" for a few days and no sex for a few weeks. Went on to have a very healthy pregnancy and even worked (on my feet) until labor. Had my baby the next day. Stay positive! FX for you!
  • Did any of you ladies have pain or cramping with this?
  • I've had frequent, consistent cramping and occasionally bleeding for the past 2 weeks. Following doctor's orders and taking it easy.

  • The cramping could just be an early pregnancy sysmpgom. I had one and did modified bed test. I’d listen to your doctor. Although some ladies might’ve been more active, SCH come in all different sizes. I would give it time to resolve itself.

  • @babybrain2018 I had severe cramping this time around a passed a clot the size of my palm. Again, if you’re concerned or unsure, please ask your doc for more clarification and instruction!

  • @comealongponds I did get in to see the doc. And he said the cramping was normal with the subchorionic hematoma, plus the stretching uterus,(plus the UTI. ) So that was a relief. But it was reassuring to hear from you ladies who have gone through this before, while I was waiting to get in to see him!
  • I’m joining the pelvic rest SCH group. Found out yesterday I have a small one.
  • I found out at my ultrasound yesterday that I have a small SCH, too. It makes me feel better knowing that’s the reason for my bleeding, but I’ve only had bleeding after sex or exercise, so I’m going to hold off on both until this resolves itself.
  • Last week I was told I have a small SCH. The doctor didn't recommend any special rest (not even pelvic) other than not moving heavy items as we were moving at the end of the week. H and I still decided to basically have me on modified best rest anyway since I'm such a "doer" and my over-exert myself.

I had light spotting two Saturdays ago and then a gush after my ultrasound last Monday and another on Thursday. In between all that, very light spotting. I have another ultrasound on Wednesday. I'm so nervous because we had two losses before this and we're being extra careful as a result. GL!
