Rec your pregnancy-safe products!

I know this may be controversial, and I really hope this doesn't devolve into a debate, especially because the research is skimpy on the subject. But for those who DO switch out toiletry/beauty products for paraben-, phthalate-, etc.-free options, what do you use that you really like?

Hoping that someone has a shampoo/conditioner they really like, because everything I've tried has been a fail.

Re: Rec your pregnancy-safe products!

  • I've been using Beautycounter products for over a year now and love them! I swapped over my hair and makeup products a while ago since I've had hormonal issues forever and was trying to help balance everything in anyway I could. I think I read on their website somewhere that everything was safe for pregnancy...except perhaps the charcoal mask that is < 0.5% salicylic acid-probably a personal choice on that one, I've chose to stop using it.

  • Loreal ever pure is sulfate free, vegan etc.
  • I've been using Nature's Gate shampoo/conditioner and like it compared to some other sulfate-free shampoo where I felt my hair still looked greasy after washing. Switching makeup was really hard for me bc I used a lot of different brands like mac, urban decay, stila, etc. and found out they mostly all had parabens and other chemicals that I'm trying to stay away from while pregnant. I've now mostly converted entirely to tarte products and bareminerals, and use mac occasionally. I'm sure it's not perfect but it is so hard researching what all is in everything. I've pretty much stopped using perfume entirely and switched to lotion with essential oils in it for some fragrance.
  • I use Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner! I get it at CVS and it’s a little pricey IMO but if you sign up for their rewards card you can get coupons emailed to you that makes it more affordable.
  • Garnier fructis has a shampoo and conditioner that is paraben free. I switched to that and like it!
Burts bees is great for lotions, face wash, body wash!

and honest products across the board!
  • I use the Everyday Shea line by Alafia for shampoo and conditioner and really like it - I’ve been using it for years and always get compliments for the stylist about how healthy my hair is.

For deodorant I use kiss my face liquid rock deodorant, specifically the active one. Even my husband uses it and it works for him.

Toothpaste we like green beaver but I think that’s a Canadian brand.

We find all of them at Whole Foods.

Other than that, I don’t wear makeup and make my own soaps/scrubs/moisturizer
  • I've switched everything over the past few years. I swear no deodorant works better than Crystal body deodorant stick (it's mineral salt) and I've tried them all. Toms total care toothpaste with fluoride and gentle whitening. Avalon Organics shampoo and conditioner but i plan to try Acure lemongrass next become I'm not won over. I like Acure and Nourish (available at Target) products for face wash etc but love to splurge on Eminence Organics. I recently started trying a few things from Herbivore and love their charcoal face bar. As for makeup my go to brands are Tarte and Jane Iredale.

Extendung the convo to general product changes...
We use Country Save detergent for all of our laundry, baby included.
Mrs Myers cleaning concentrate for general purpose and floors.
Kiss My Face, Badger, Blue Lizard and ThinkBaby sunscreen

  • I’ll second the L’Oréal EverPure for shampoo/conditioner. It was recommended to me for to preserve my color because it’s also sulfate free. They have different ones for moisture, volume, etc. CVS has them on sale with good ExtraBucks deals from
    time to time.

I like Cetaphil for cleanser and moisturizer but not sure if they are completely paraben and pthalate free.
  • I use alba shampoo and conditioner or Shea moisture. I usually get it at TJ Maxx. I dont use any benzoyl peroxide so my face wash is fine. Also use super goop sunblock.

  • @mariek312 I use acure shampoo and conditioner, and I like them. They seem to be changing their whole product line lately (I can’t find their face wipes I used to buy anymore, and the shampoos looked different when I was at the store this week), so I can’t say if the shampoo has changed since the one I’m using.

I also just bought thinkbaby sunblock for an upcoming vacation, so hopefully it’s better than the other mineral sunblocks I’ve tried so far. I’ve heard good things so fingers crossed!
  • ooh yeah, sunblock. Let me know what you ladies like as I will be in Texas for a week in about 2 months and will need something!
