Happy Pi Day!!
Ticker change simply means that you have started a new week of pregnancy. For example, I go from 10 weeks to 11 weeks on Wednesday 3/14, so my “ticker” changes on Wednesdays. It is our way of marking a milestone.
Questions stolen from Sunday.
1. How many weeks are you? What size is baby?
2. How are you feeling?
3. Any appointments this week?
4. Rants/raves/questions?
5. GTKY: If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be doing? (Also, what do you do for work now?)
Re: Wednesday Ticker Change 3/14
11 weeks. Depending on your source, baby is the size of a lime, a strawberry (I swear WebMD is a week off the rest of the world), or an apricot.
2. How are you feeling?
I thought last night I might be coming down with a cold, but the scratchiness in my throat has faded. Also, I woke up at 2am to go to the bathroom, and now I am AWAKE.
Otherwise, most of my symptoms have faded.
3. Any appointments this week?
I had a meeting with the genetics counselor yesterday. They took 3 vials of blood for an NIPT and some additional screening on me; I should have the results in 8-10 days. Hopefully sooner than later. I’m totally impatient.
4. Rants/raves/questions?
As of today, I am no longer going to be putting away the evidence of my pregnancy when people (whether friends or contractors) come over to my house. I’m tired of it, and they’ll find out soon enough if they haven’t already.
5. GTKY: If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be doing? (Also, what do you do for work now?)
I’ve actually already changed careers once. My undergraduate degree is in Physics, and my first job was in environmental science. I hated my company, and decided to switch to a career that had more job opportunities local to me at the time. Amusingly, I ended up in Finance rather than Accounting as I had planned, which had exactly the same amount of local job opportunities. At least I liked my employer better.
If money weren’t an issue, I’d be a photographer and run an art gallery.
11 weeks! I think a lime?
2. How are you feeling?
Starting to feel better. Still very tired and sometimes a few other symptoms come back but not as consistently.
3. Any appointments this week?
Nothing this wee. Next week! Finally!
4. Rants/raves/questions?
I was freaked out eArly this week when I found out I was a carrier for a really rare disease. Husband gets tested next week. Then I realized he is very unlikely to also be a carrier so I chilled out a bit. Just trying not to think about it.
5. GTKY: If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be doing? (Also, what do you do for work now?)
I am an immigration attorney for low income communities. I fight every day to keep families together. I love my job...it’s gotten more difficult in this past year of course.
On days that it’s too hard My fantasy back up job is to be a location scout for movies. I have no relevant training or experience. But I imagine it pays about a million dollars and you just travel the world and then call up Peter Jackson and say “hey, these mountains are cool. Film your next epic trilogy here.” Maybe in the next life
We have some seriously cool people in this group.
9 wk! Baby is the size of a cherry.
2. How are you feeling?
Threw up again this morning but nausea has been mostly in the mornings the last few days which is a nice change. I can handle a few raunchy hours in the morning. Otherwise...holy heavy boobs! Dry skin + pimples is now a thing for me. Also I apologize to everyone I come in contact with because my inner bitch has come out to stay.
3. Any appointments this week?
Not this week but I had my first US yesterday! Cutest little parasite ever!!
4. Rants/raves/questions?
Not at the moment... I’m sure I’ll have a rant in about 5 minutes though.
5. GTKY: If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be doing? (Also, what do you do for work now?)
My husband and I own/operate our own tree planting business in Colorado. We both love it! Though I do get some funny looks when I move trees with the skidsteer, drive the truck and trailer, or dig holes. It’s like people think women incompetent or something. Currently, since planting season hasn’t started yet, I’m waiting tables at Hacienda. (a nice Mexican place) I do enjoy it but holy smells right now! I’ll probably stay there for awhile this summer since planting trees is probably not good for PG people.
As as far as what I wish I was doing...honestly I don’t even really know for sure. I’d like to be a SAHM but I’d also love a photography gig of some kind that I could travel all over the world for.
@rc-cola the movie scout thing would be awesome!!
11 weeks = lime size. I’ve been craving citrus lately, so it seems appropriate
2. How are you feeling?
Definitely less nauseous (!), still pretty exhausted, though.
ETA - threw up (for the first time, ugh!) less than 5 minutes after I wrote this. I take it back. I take it all back.
3. Any appointments this week?
Not ‘til next week
4. Rants/raves/questions?
Have you started buying practical things yet? Aka, how far behind in the reasearch/purchasing am I? I hear other threads/groups talking about it and am starting to get worried.
5. GTKY: If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be doing? (Also, what do you do for work now?)
currently a middle school teacher. I’d love to be a SAHM, though I’m not sure that will work, at least for the first year. I’d also love to teach aerials and fitness as not just a side gig (what I do now), but I don’t like the self-promotion that has to go with it. Or a travel photographer. I’d drop everything to do that!
@jynjer91 your job sounds awesome! I worked at a nursery in high school and got the funniest looks whenever I drove the front loader. You should totally go out a few days while visibly pregnant just to mess with people
@rc-cola if you’re right about the movie scout thing, I’m changing my answer!
The other thing I am researching right now is doulas- for rhe same reason. I’d like to find the right one now, and not have to worry about it closer to when I need it.
Here’s the thread we have going on daycare:
https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12725101/day-care#latest
Disclaimer- I have no idea what I’m doing on this, but this is my approach so far:
1) I’ve combed through a bunch of blog posts on hiring doulas, and am putting together a questionnaire based on their suggested questions. (There is a lot of stuff I wouldn’t have thought about- like confirming they have a back-up doula.)
2) I know some of the things that are important to me, and am concentrating on those things- for example- the doula needs to be comfortable with the fact that I am a single mom and my labor partner is a gay man. I also want someone who is assertive rather than someone who is all goopy about the miracle of birth. (Nothing wrong with goopy, but that is not effective for me.) I also want someone who is evidence-based rather than new-agey. (Again- nothing wrong with either approach, just what works for me.)
3) I made a list of all the local doulas I found through various resources, and have been reviewing their websites based on #2. I also plan to ask my OB at my next appointment if she has had any interactions with doulas that she found especially helpful/supportive of the mother and the mother’s best interests. (Note I said “best interests” rather than “wishes” - while I hope to have an unmedicated birth, sometimes we don’t get what we want.)
4) Next step- is to actually reach out to some doulas and kick the interview process off. I plan to start with 4, and if I don’t like any of them, then try 4 more.
Also- if I actually knew anyone who used a doula, I’d ask them, but most of my friends are childless, and it seems like an awkward question to ask coworkers...
Wow, thank you for the super helpful and thorough response. Blogs sounds like the right starting point and then I think I’ll borrow from you and figure out my own checklist. Good luck with the search!
10 weeks - the size of a strawberry
2. How are you feeling?
Doing better - had a scare on the weekend when I started bleeding, but had an emergency ultrasound on Monday and everything looked fine
3. Any appointments this week?
Just the ultrasound on Monday - which was a huge relief. Saw a good heartbeat and the baby was waving it’s arms and was dating a few days ahead
4. Rants/raves/questions?
My clothes are already starting to get tight, but I’m not quite ready to make the jump to maternity pants :-(
5. GTKY: If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be doing? (Also, what do you do for work now?)
I’m an executive assistant in mental health and substance use services. I’m not sure what my dream profession is... but probably something where I could work for myself
2. How are you feeling? Not great. Some days i am feeling more human though, so i think i'm on the upswing!
3. Any appointments this week? not til next week!
4. Rants/raves/questions? Our trip to mexico was supposed to be this Sunday, but we had to cancel. But instead, we are going to Vegas/Death Valley, which i am weirdly excited for. This week is dragging though!
5. GTKY: If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be doing? (Also, what do you do for work now?) I work in product development. It's a nice blend of design/engineering/business. I think if i could have just done whatever i want, limitations thrown aside, i would have gone into some kind of research science. I LOOOOVE science. Although i just saw an awesome presentation on color theory, and it convinced me that i need to become a color forecaster immediately, so there's that.
8 weeks & I have no idea. Can you tell this isn’t my first?
2. How are you feeling?
Better than last week, although I’ve been pretty cranky the last couple days.
3. Any appointments this week?
Not until next week
4. Rants/raves/questions?
These frequent bathroom trips are starting to annoy me.
5. GTKY: If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be doing? (Also, what do you do for work now?)
Probably engineering. Not because I love it or anything, but it is what I did before I became a SAHM.
8 weeks today. As big as a raspberry & weighs as much as a jelly bean.
2. How are you feeling?
Tired, sore, a mix of scared and excited.
3. Any appointments this week?
My first apt is a week away next Wednesday
4. Rants/raves/questions?
My hormones make me so angry! I haven't felt like myself in weeks. I'm so tired of the way I act sometimes and I'm not sure how my s/o still loves me.. I've been a raging capital C lately.
5. GTKY: If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be doing? (Also, what do you do for work now?)
Currently waiting for calls back from a job opening so keep your fingers crossed for me! This momma needs better income.
@knottieamusements it sounds like you do good research and know what you want! I’m sure you’ll find a good daycare and doula.
