MFM appointment this afternoon. By far my least favorite of all the appointments. Pee in a cup, see the diabetes team who I already talk to at least once a week on the phone about my crummy blood sugar numbers, any questions, nope, see you in a month. I'm going to ask if we can push these appointments to once ever 2 months if I promise to be better about sending in my blood sugar logs
OB yesterday. Heard the heartbeat again, always my favorite part. Now we have to wait almost 4 weeks for the anatomy scan. We’ve been seen every two so far. But she wants to wait until definitely after 20 weeks for the A/S and she wants it on a Friday because the best sonographer is there on Fridays....so we will be almost 21 weeks by then.
OB is hopeful I’ll start feeling regular movement soon so I don’t have to rely on these appointments to calm my nerves. I am too!
MFM went well yesterday, the nurse checked the heartbeat which was a nice surprise, baby girl was hiding deep in my pelvis so there were about 4 seconds of panic there. Got my lecture about being better about sending my numbers in and another increase in insulin. Things are going well enough that I didn't need to see the Dr and my next appointment is 6 weeks out instead of 4!
Follow-up with the MFM this afternoon after a week of being on insulin. This time I have a whole list of questions and concerns my husband and I worked on jointly to bring up with the doctor, and we're not leaving till they're answered satisfactorily or addressed in some way.
Given my numbers so far I doubt they'll increase the insulin dosage, so there's that. I hope..
Okay so not a baby appt but for those of you battling skin and dryness - I had my derm appt today. She gave me a couple topicals for my acne that's occurred but for the dryness she is having me wash my face with selsun blue! The shampoo! Then a cetaphil lotion. So if anyone wants to try it too haha
@scottishlass1213 I'll try anything at this point for the dryness! I got a thing of St. Ives apricot facial scrub, and it works great for exfoliating. But it doesn't matter if I use lotion or not afterwards, I'm scaly and peeling again in a day or two.
A/S was yesterday, and we got to see everything BUT whether it's a boy or girl. We go back Friday to see if the baby has moved (baby was breech), and complete the rest of the A/S. It was so amazing getting to see the bones, kidneys, bladder, arteries, etc. plus hear the heartbeat!
Just got home from my AS. Like @ashleyandjody said baby was breech so I will most likely be going back so they can get a better look at the spine. I had the most amazing tech I've ever had and honestly, that makes the whole experience so much better. I did have a mini meltdown in the waiting room with nerves and a full bladder but she was so nice and put me at ease immediately.
It went very well as far as I can tell now I will be obsessively checking my portal to read the Radiologist report.
Just got home from my MFM appointment, shopping, and dinner. Phew, I'm exhausted!
The MFM appointment went really well, I think!
TL;DR *puffs out chest* The LPN and MFM were both amazed by my blood sugar numbers on my first week with insulin and were extremely confident that I have this under control. He especially was so astonished he couldn't stop talking about it when he first came in, "With first time patients we usually have to increase dosages with every visit" etc, etc. She was so impressed that she recommended reducing my lunch dose, as my after lunch numbers were often lower than I was comfortable with, since I don't eat big carb-heavy lunches and it's mostly things like a cheese, nut, vegetable, and fruit plate, and seeing how I do with that.
We came armed with our questions, a lot of which the different nurse practitioner I was assigned to today was able to answer, and she was a lot better in general than the other one from last week. She was more down-to-earth, more personable, more relatable, and genuinely seemed to care about our experience at their practice, and how to get my initial concerns corrected. She was in on the phone call from my OB to the MFM and was worried that we'd never come back, so she was glad that we stuck it out, and honestly I am too.
Then she had a brief chat with the doctor and they came back in together and we chatted. Although I think it took some serious conversation from my husband to him, man to man, to get through his facade of: "Me, Doctor...You, Patient" and come down to Earth and have a reasonable conversation with two worried, curious, and determined soon-to-be parents who aren't complete idiots. We got through the rest of the questions we had with him, he answered them in explicit detail, going through his rationale for the insulin immediately and not metformin, or other drugs, and I think we're all on the same page right now.
If anything I think he was taken aback by the number and caliber of questions we asked. You could tell they threw him for a momentary loop, like he's not used to answering them outside of clinicals or something. The LPN was seated behind him across the office and when we spoke up and asserted ourselves about what we wanted to see addressed, how we wanted to be treated, and how ultimately we still have the final say in treatment...she was back there nodding very fervently like a silent cheerleader...so it was nice to see that we weren't too far off base in what we wanted to see as an outcome.
After he'd left, she came back in and asked if we were feeling better about today's appointment, and we both agreed that we were, wholeheartedly. We got all of our questions answered, and then some. And most importantly I think we got across to him and her alike that we're not like most of the patients they probably see...the ones who don't want to do the hard work when it comes to changing their diet, taking their meds, and trying to have a healthy pregnancy...which is initially what the dietitian and he made me feel like. We wanted to get across that they can't assume that everyone fits that assumed patient mold of "eating a 5lb bag of Skittles in the MFM waiting room".
After the past couple of "first" appointments here with the shitty dietitian and then being so overwhelmed with the MFM's bombardment of recommendations, I'd written my OB's office manager as I have her direct email address from previously when she helped me select my OB. So I emailed her with all of my concerns and frustrations from last week because I could not get in touch with the MFM because his front office staff were cock-blocking me. My OB apparently was appalled and got on the phone and talked to the MFM about what's going on. So it was nice to hear that my OB being upset by it all got through to him and worked on some level, as well. And the MFM is going to have a "talking to" with his front office staff, so it was nice to hear that was going to be addressed.
So two hours later and all in all a better visit. Hopefully it continues to be so.
I just had my 18 week appointment and all is well. Baby’s heart rate was around 140. I’m going to rejoin my rec center and possibly up my meds to help my awful mood. Plus, maybe see a specialist for why I’m leaking pee most of the day. So, hopefully I’ll start feeling better soon.
Also, felt some real movements on the way to the doc!
Update: I had my ultrasound on Wednesday. It went well, and the results were posted to my patient portal this morning. We found out on Wed that it’s a boy, which I’m excited about. The us report stated no congenital abnormalities, but the baby is breech. Of course that could change as I’m only 19w now. So everything is good, and I’m finally getting excited now that everything seems to be ok!
We had our anatomy scan on Wednesday and doctor called yesterday to say all looked normal! He was super active in there during the scan, which wasn’t surprising because I feel him a lot.
