PAIF Support Thread - w/o March 5

Let's get to know each other. Share with us any IF/loss background you would like to share and how things are going for you now.

Note: This thread will include discussion of infertility and loss. If these topics are triggering for you, please take care of yourself while reading and posting here.

This thread is for those of us who went through infertility testing and treatments before becoming pregnant. Many of us have had different struggles to get to this place and face different anxiety and concerns now. This thread is for us to support each other, and we hope it will be a safe space. Check in any time during the week you have news to share or need support.

This thread is for those who have experienced infertility. The struggles we discuss may or may not apply to those who became pregnant easily. If you have not experienced infertility, please be considerate and sensitive if you feel the need to post in this thread.

Re: PAIF Support Thread - w/o March 5

  • *Loss triggers here*

I'll start us off. I had an u/s today (6+2) and it's official: TWINS. My RE seemed really upset about it. He kept saying, "We transferred two because of your age [40] and history [six losses, many failed transfers], but unfortunately this sometimes happens." I didn't particularly appreciate that, but I do know twins bring more risks. With my history there's a good chance one or more won't make it all the way through, so I guess I just take it one day at a time.

There was also a small SCH, but he didn't seem very worried about that. He said about 40% of their IVF pregnancies have one at this stage, and they usually resolve just fine. This is what caused my last loss, so it's going to take a long time for me to relax.

So, no celebrating for me today. I wonder when I'll be able to?

  • @muchwanted that’s a strange reaction from your RE. I hope everything goes smoothly for you! Also, I think we all feel the same way wondering when we can celebrate. It’s really hard after IF to let your guard down, so I totally get it.

AFM, chugging along. I go to my OB next Friday at 11 weeks which feels so.far.away. I called them last week to see if they would do an ultrasound so I know if MH should come with me or not and they told me that they don’t do ultrasounds there, which I found really strange. They told me they would give me paperwork to go get one. Anyone else ever heard of this?

My symptoms come and go which freaks me out. My m/s was at an all time high on Friday (which was exactly 9 weeks) but has been better the last few days and it makes me nervous. Although I have been sleeping better so maybe that’s why? I don’t know. Like @muchwanted  I am wondering if I will ever be able to relax.
  • @Kim41313 - Yes, I think it's relatively common to send out for scans. It can be a good thing, if the place they send you has the super-fancy, high-resolution equipment. :) Also, I absolutely hate it when symptoms come and go, but of course it's not meaningful. I just try to focus on how much better I feel, and being able to eat!

  • @muchwanted what an odd reaction. I hope everything goes well! I’m with you, though, on wondering when the actual excitement can kick in.

@Kim41313 mine does ultrasounds, but they definitely have older equipment than my RE. They are sending me out for the NT scan, so I’m guessing it’s pretty common?

@kiwi2628 aww, congrats! How did you announce?

AFM - last day on progesterone! I’m only a little paranoid about stopping cold turkey :/ I think we’re telling parents this weekend. Can’t decide if I’m excited or nervous. Hmmm.
  • Ugghhh, happy for you but seriously jealous @kiwi2628. I have 3 more weeks! I was really counting on only having to go through week 12, but my RE scheduled my f/u for week 13 so they could do a brain scan/heart check u/s at the same appt and wants me to stay on the PIO through that date.

On the bright side, I ordered my last vial and she dropped my dose back down to normal levels, so that's a mini win!
