Re: 2nd Trimester Check-in Week of March 5th
How're you feeling this week? Better now that we have power back! Man it's crazy the things we take for granted, and then when it's gone...we realize how we rely on it! Pregnancy wise, feeling good overall but having days here and there of extreme exhaustion and discomfort. I've been eating smaller meals and spacing them out which is helping my heartburn immensely. I also stop eating by 7p and I've been sleeping better too.
How far along? 24 weeks + 6 days
Appts this coming week? Not this week! My next appt is the glucose test next Thurs. Fun times.
How far along? 14+2
Appointments? Just had my 1st u/s at my OBs office. Yay for belly u/s!!! They are much more laid back there vs RE’s which my highly anxious personality appreciated. No concern re SCH anymore but my placenta is slightly over the opening (? I’m sure there’s a real medical term for that- is it my cervix??) so still no intercourse or strenuous activity.
Feeling? I’ve been good this whole time except my first bout of heartburn last night and woke with a headache today that is making me nauseas.
@TravelingCouple what a rough weekend! I’m from a coastal town in MA (live in AZ now) but have been communicating with all my friends and feeling so bad. It’s March- time for the weather to break already!
No Folic acid/pharmaceuticals/supplements (too many to list- private message me if interested), IVIL infusion
Feeling pretty good. There is officially no mistaking I’m pregnant anymore! Telling my supervisors tomorrow since we got called into the office. Wish me luck!
Appt with the MFM on Wed to see if this little girl has pushed the amniotic band out of the way and moved positions at all. Fingers crossed!!! It’ll be nice to see her again but of course the nerves are starting to creep up that there still might be an issue with this darn band.
@TravelingCouple The glucose test wasn't that bad I thought, the drink didn't taste too bad and the baby was kicking around like crazy after drinking it, so be ready for that. It was the most movement I have ever felt, sugar high or something.
@mtpbadger Good luck with your appointment, I hope all goes well for you. It will be so nice to see the babes again. Don't be too nervous (I know easier said than done of course). Thinking about you!
@lablover78 Welcome! And Yay for belly ultrasounds. I still have had a couple of the vag ones to check on cervix size, but mainly they are belly ones now too. Are finding out the sex?
AFM- Other than the excitement of peeing my pants over the weekend haha, not too much going on here. My hubs is out of town for work in London this week, so I am holding down the fort alone with all the animals. We have 2 cats and 2 dogs. Work has been crazy and stressful, so I am just exhausted afterwards and don't do much in the evenings. At least I work from home mostly, but then some days I stay in my jams all day in front of the computer. I really wish the weather would get a bit warmer here in Oregon so I don't have to buy anymore maternity clothes and I can wear all my maxi skirts and flowy dresses that fit around this belly. Come on sunshine! I am also yearning to golf and be outside more often.
21+2 days today
next appt is tomorrow with my ob
@Holls214 your story cracked me up!
@mtpbadger good luck telling the news to your supervisors and crossing my fingers for you and the amniotic band!
Hello @lablover78!
@TravelingCouple ugh I've seen photos and glad you got your power back. Thank you for posting the weekly thread!
How're you feeling this week? Bloated. Bloated. And bloated. Constipation isn't so bad, but after I eat a small plate of food, my stomach just gets so big. I look HUGE. Also I've been getting some leg cramps while sleeping. Anyone else have this?
Last week was very stressful due to work and a last minute trip to a client. I flew out yesterday and fly back home Wednesday. The anxiety leading up to the first leg of the flight was awful; there wasn't enough hours and energy in the days leading up to my trip. I had to just accept that lower priority items would not get done, and I didn't want to be separated from DH. But once I got on that plane, I felt better. I got work done on the plane and it is what it is.
I also got compression socks from a nurse/scrubs store to wear for the flights. Did anyone who's been flying or plans to fly wear compression socks or stockings too?
I can't feel the baby kick yet. I hope I'll be able to soon!
How far along? 21w1d
Appts this coming week? Prenatal massage on Thursday! I fly back from my work trip on Wednesday and i considered rescheduling it so that I could rest the remainder of the week, but what better way to relax than with a massage and spa gift card??? Also looking forward to OB appt and 2nd anatomy scan, which are both next Tuesday.
Ooo sorry about the leg cramps @jr102217 but maybe the prenatal massage this week will help with that! I just flew last week, 4.5 hour flight and didn't do the compression socks. I thought about it since I already have a blood clotting issue and take baby aspirin, but I just drank lots of fluids and got up about once an hour to pee and walk around, stretch my legs. Just make sure you get an aisle seat if it's a long flight. I found that it wasn't too bad and it felt good to get up and move. I normally avoid going to the bathroom or getting up on flights but it's definitely necessary when pregnant.

OMG, I can't even think about June, yet! Lol. That is an exciting day, having the crib arrive. You'll have to share pics when you get it assembled! ❤
Oh wow, flying all over the place @jr102217 Brave lady! And Enjoy that massage! :) I was thinking I might even end up getting the compression socks for work, myself, since I'm on my feet all day. I look forward to hearing how you like them.
@lablover75 Welcome to 2nd tri! Yes, the belly u/s is way easier than the RE’s internal. At my first OB u/s I got all flustered when she said to just get on the table. I just stared at the tech and then said – oh right, I’m used to having to get naked.
@businesswife I’m dying for you to officially come over to 2nd tri. I feel like we never talk anymore. xo
How're you feeling this week? I’m feeling mostly fine but I’ve been so gassy and constipated. I also strained something in my lower back power walking a 5k on Sunday. I walk almost every day but I definitely was pushing faster and I may have over done it a little bit with my weights last week. Oops.
How far along? 16+1 today and finally showing a little bit!
Appts this coming week? Monthly exam with doppler this afternoon. I can’t wait to hear his heartbeat for the extra reassurance that he is doing well. We have an u/s later this month and I can’t wait to see him again!

AFM...
How're you feeling this week? Pretty good! I'm feeling some of what I assume is round ligament pain - especially when standing up or rolling over in bed, which I'm trying to look at as a good sign that baby girl is growing in there and making room. We got our NIPT back two weeks ago so while I know she has the right number of chromosomes, I am still worried about open neural tube defects. Because I'm an anxious wreck, I need SOMEthing to worry about all the time, even though the chances are slim and I've been on a prenatal vitamin for the better part of a year. I'm sure some of you can relate.
How far along? 14 weeks and 5 days. Finally starting to let myself get excited!
Appts this coming week? Nothing until March 20, but I'm keeping tabs on heartbeat with a home doppler. Luckily she's big enough now to find the HB really quickly and I try not to bug her with it for too long (I can hear her moving every time I listen in, like she's annoyed). For someone with my incessant worrying, this little machine has been an absolute life-changer. I am always so much calmer after I hear that she's doing well.
You know what I love about this forum? Every week is a new week. I get so much anxiety that I am not getting on enough or posting and then there is a new week. It helps because I feel like I drop the ball in 90% of life so hopefully you guys know I’m in your corner and excited for updates!
How are you feeling this week?: Good! Constipation is a little better. My doctor recommended the same thing you guys already told me about. Why do I even need a doctor? J. Last night was crazy because she woke me up moving around. When I had uterine procedures during the IVF process, they told me my uterus was small. Not bad small just enough to feel more pain when the saline went in. I started getting RLP at 7 weeks pregnant and when she woke me up last night it wasn’t the pain of the saline but the sensation was the same. Does that even make sense? It was crazy. I stayed awake feeling her fluttering around and twitching. Unreal.
How far along? 18 weeks 3 days
Appointments: None. Anatomy scan next week.
@travelingcouple 25 weeks today!!!! So sorry to hear you were in that crazy snowstorm. That sounds terrible. Glad you guys are okay and appreciating power. How long was it out? Great news on the heartburn front. Heartburn is so miserable and makes it impossible to sleep.
@lablover78 welcome!! I love the dog in your little picture J
@mtbadger Was it so cold all weekend when you had no power? Yay for a “power out” day from work. I’m going to sound like an idiot here and should just google but what is an amniotic band? Good luck tomorrow!
@businesswife HI!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve missed you so and couldn’t wait for you to get over here! I don’t know when the 2nd trimester starts and all the apps say something different. I’m so excited you are doing well. My philosophy of the trimesters is, if you divide 40 by 3 it’s 13.3 so I say on week 13 and 3 days you are in your second trimester. Therefore, tomorrow? I don’t know J
@holls214 The peeing your pants story from last week because made me laugh out loud at work. Not the lol everyone always says but I actually belly laughed. J Glad your glucose test wasn’t bad and how fun to feel him kicking around. What kind of dogs do you have? This winter seems like an eternity.
@coco305 L so sorry about your anxiety and all the itching. My skin has been a mess as well. I got a large welt on the inside of one of my toes. It swelled up and hurt so bad. I wonder if it’s actually a bug bite or just something weird. I don’t know but everything is so anxiety provoking. Hope your appointment goes well today and eases your mind a little.
@jr102217 so sorry about the bloating but yay that the constipation isn’t as bad. Good job prioritizing and doing what you can for work. I commend you for traveling and doing what you have to do. I am planning on getting compression socks for a trip in May and just in general because I tend to retain water. How are prenatal massages? Do you get to be on your stomach??
@aera11 Back pain is a bummer. Sounds like you are working on some remedies. I’m shocked at how many symptoms I thought would be at the end of pregnancy are right now and strong. How exciting about the crib!
@laurad75 I hear ya on the constipation and gas. So lovely. How was hearing the heartbeat today?
@sarcasticowl I’m so worried about neural tube defects because there has to be something to worry about. I got that blood draw that tests for AFP even though my anatomy scan is next week because of the crazy anxiety. Now I check my phone every 30 seconds and I bet the anatomy scan comes in first. Great news about the genetics and of course the pesky but reassuring round ligament pain. I love that she gets annoyed by your home Doppler. I feel like we annoy our children from the beginning. Especially IVF babies that had to be under lights before they were even conceived haha.
I feel fine. I am 20 weeks and still only sparsely feel kicks, which sucks. The placenta must be anterior, or this is just a quiet baby. I am a little down though, I mentioned it some a long time ago, but I developed a nasty infection at my PIO injection site back when I was taking shots. Well, I had to go to get all the dead fat and tissue removed and had to start wound care. Fast forward to now, and I am able to finally ditch the bandage since it's pretty much healed up, but now I have this huge 1 inch divet on my buttcheek. I know it is silly to be upset over, but it is seriously going to bug me for the rest of my life. Sorry, just had to rant to others since my husband just thinks I am being dumb.
How far along?
20 weeks
Appts this coming week?
Not this week, but next week is my anatomy scan. I am excited for it, but really nervous too.
Thankfully it wasn’t too cold without the power so we didn’t have that to deal with.
@jr102217 yay for a massage! Also for cramps, try hydrating with coconut water and eating bananas. I hate coconut water, but smart water or Gatorade work well too.
@mtpbadger good luck! Hopefully the band moved out of the way.
@Aera11 it could totally be carpal
tunnel. The brace has helped.
saw my OB today, everything was fine. She said she will be watching my blood pressure later on, since I tend to have low pressure, she knows that later on in pregnancy it will be a challenge, as it will rise, but it will be hard to differentiate what's normal and what's dangerous, since we don't have a "high bp" baseline for me shiiiit and I thought that was going to be an advantage for me.

@Holls214 oh man, gotta love the lack of bladder control! Baby girl has given me some swift kicks to the bladder that make me have to RUN to the bathroom, haha!!
@coco305 I had random itching mostly on my legs around 16 weeks, OB said it was just dry skin and it only lasted like a week maybe? Does lotion help?
@jr102217 I haven't had leg cramps yet with this pregnancy but I did with DS and those are awful! I'd wake up in the middle of the night with a full out Charlie horse. If you can catch it quick enough before it completely develops and flex your foot as hard as you can you can prevent it from completely developing. But magnesium also helps.
Am I missing anyone else in in the OP who's now 2nd trimester?
@cseley321 That isn't silly at all! Is it pretty noticeable? I still have a lot of numbness at my injection sites and it just reminds me that I didn't do this the 'normal' way and I still get a little bitter. That's terrible about the infection. It might heal a little bit more hopefully.
@coco305 That is such a bummer about the blood pressure thing. Can't your BP 'baseline' be whatever it is today? I have low bp too and never thought of that.
@Aera11 Are you going to do a theme or specific colors for the nursery? I'm using my niece's crib because she only used it for a year and it's white. It is in the nursery but not built yet. I'm overwhelmed at all the options!
@TravelingCouple You want to go ahead and add me, too? I'm EDD Sept 9th :D
@BusinessWife yes! Call it, wecome to the second Tri
so based on that: how do you guys count your days? Week 0-6 or week 1-7?
i do 0-6.
How am I feeling? Pretty good. Each weak gets a little better with the sickness. I still had a couple nausea spells but I have official made it a whole week without vomiting I feel on top of the world. I also am not sure but I think I may be feeling the baby move. It only happened a couple times in the last week both times were at night while laying down trying to go to sleep. It felt like the lightest tickle in my tummy. Really light so I’m not really sure but maybe it’s the start of something? Still no bump though…
Tangent: We also did interviews with two different doula groups in my area and have meetings set up to meet with our “matches” later this week. After just even talking to these groups to set up the appointments I’m totally sold on the doula thing and even contemplating trying to go epidural free. Though I’m still pretty sure I’ll change my mind on that in the heat of the moment.
How far along? 17w + 2days, EDD 8/12 Team green!
Appointments this coming week? I have one this afternoon. I meeting with a new doc in my ob group. They rotate call for delivery so I’m trying to at least meet all of them before the big day. I’m also having blood drawn for some sort of screening test but honestly I don’t remember what it’s for.
@travelingcouple that’s awful about your power. A snowstorm without a movie marathon is a sad thing. I hope you were able to stay warm! Oh and please at me to the OP too. I’m EDD 8/12
@lablover78 YAY!!!!! Happy Second Trimester
@mtpbadger yuck to no power and water, but congratulations on your registry. I just started mine and it seems daunting!
@buisnesswife it is crazy with the second trimester I found a site that gave me three different dates and how they were calculated. Whatever I say close enough! Happy second trimester!
@coco305 I’m so sorry you had to go in to the ER and ended up with a panic attack. Could the anxiety be triggering your itching. When I was little I used to get hives when I was stressed. Actually It has even happened a couple times as an adult. The mental state really does affect the physical one. Take care of yourself coco305 I’m hoping this week is better for you (hugs).
@jr102217 wins best appointment for prenatal massage!!
@aera11 congrats on the crib! That’s such a huge milestone. Do you already have plans on how you’re going to decorate the nursery?
@laurad75 lol I had the same reaction with my tummy ultrasound I’m like what? I can wear pants? I actually ended up getting an internal though because I didn’t know I was supposed to have a full bladder. My RE office always had us empty for monitoring so of course I went right before my appointment. Woops. Lesson learned.
@irisheyes81 I always look forward to Monday and the new posts and then I’m like opps I haven’t checked in enough but no matter how often I always love seeing what you and all the ladies are up to
@csely321 20 weeks! Happy halfway point! You PIO infection sounds horrible. I don’t think its silly to be upset about at all. It sounds like they had to take a big chunk of tissue out. Do they think it will not be as noticeable in time after healing and maybe some fat will redistribute so it won’t be as noticeable later? I think its hard our bodies are going to be getting a little messed up all over the place and getting an extra change you aren't counting on seems worth taking some time to be upset about. Sorry

How're you feeling this week? Okay having bad Round Ligament Pain. Really scared me at first but now I know what it is, still not fun but I don't get as upset. It comes on suddenly and very sharp. Went shopping at baby store for first time last weekend and lasted 15 mins in before having to shuffle to the nursing chair section and put my feet up. After 10 mins it stopped and I headed home and was fine. Just took it easy rest of night. I am also having some brown light spotting. Doctor said that the sac can disconnect just a bit from the uterine wall, then reattach which can cause bleeding. He said all of this is normal so I am trying not to worry. Also my insuline has been going better and blood sugar is good. Only having to take 12 hour insulin at night which means my body is controlling my blood sugar during the day- so calling that a win.
Appts this coming week?
Have been going for sonograms weekly and taking a break this week. Next week is Perinatal appointment. Not sure what they are checking for but I know they have an awesome sono machine so should get some good views.
I have taken to pregnancy affirmations to try and chill and think positively. I especially try and review before I go to sleep to help have better dreams. Favorite pregnancy Affirmation today is 'I trust my body knows just what to do to grow my healthy baby'.
@coco305- so sorry those doctors didn't just help you and instead sent you to the ER. I've had several doctors waste my time being more concerned with CYA than their patient. You'd think they would just help the poor panicked, itchy pregnant woman, but no. Glad you are feeling better and got care even after the ordeal. You are entitled to be stressed by that. My ob said that 10% cortizone cream is okay, btw, but you probably already know that.
@cseley321- it doesn't sound crazy to me at all that you are upset about your scar. I had very bad allergic reaction to insulin in my stomach and have scars along my lower abdomen now. They really piss me off too. As my mom says 'stress is cumulative'. We have all been through so much during our IF journeys, things that might be small to others can really be annoying. Glad everything healed well and sounds like you took good care of yourself and the wound management.
@Holls214 yes def finding out gender!
I’m disappointed today b/c i finally got my health insurance in place and asked to get the NIPT testing ball rolling, but my OB’s MA told me that I’m too late- have you ladies heard there is only a small window you can have this done? I was really looking forward to the reassurance. I’m 39 so they’ll still refer me for additional testing but I was caught off guard.
No Folic acid/pharmaceuticals/supplements (too many to list- private message me if interested), IVIL infusion
@lablover78 I had Mat 21 done at 12 weeks but I don't remember hearing about a cutoff. That's disappointing.
Exam went well yesterday and baby boy's heartbeat was a strong 140 bpm. We will go back in a few weeks for another measuring u/s so I'm pleased that I don't have to wait quite as long for my next appt.

@2MomsHoping I can't wait to hear how things went with the Doula. I would like to have one also and have aspirations of natural child birth. I honestly haven't told anyone that because I don't want the judgement eyes when/if I do end up with an epidural.
@hottietoddy Welcome! sorry about the RLP. Sounds like you are taking amazing care of yourself.
@coco305 I count 0-6 for my 'days'. That's what the ovia app does so I follow that way.
Today I got up and decided to wear maternity clothes. I was so uncomfortable all day yesterday with regular high wasted leggings that are just too tight now. My husband said, "you look cute...but pregnant." Now I'm at work and feel uncomfortable. I work at a job where I supervise sex offenders. I'm not sure I should give up a ton of personal info about me on here but it's important to the story. There is an offender in the waiting room right now and I can't bring myself to take off my big puffy coat. I mean, eventually they are all going to know. In fact, I can only wear gigantic sweaters for a while before it looks obvious. I just want to be comfortable physically and emotionally and I feel like I get either or. I'm not complaining under any stretch. I just don't share my personal life at work EVER and now I can't hide because it's on the outside. Thanks for listening. Every day seems like a new adventure
@Irisheyes81 wow that sounds like a stressful situation. It sounds like you are very professional and brave. I don't have the same situation but I can certainly understand being stressed about sharing with others and them looking at your body. The first few random people (work, grocery store, other than friends and family) I told have had some very weird responses. People tend to tell you the weirdest details about their fertility and any horror story they know. I've gotten a vasectomy story from a potential client (had never met him before).----- TW----Yesterday my tax accountant randomly told us his ex wife's entire fertility history including her endometriosis and how she had DS on a third baby they decided not to keep. And another client told me about when her neice didn't keep a baby like 15 years ago too!! I can't believe the things people say. Anyway, I've talked to others and they say it is a thing too....so I've learned to brace myself, not get upset and change the subject. Anyway- sorry to ramble but my point is- you might brace yourself for some weird comments. Every person I tell I'm pregnant does a quick body scan of me- eyes up and down- they try and do it when I'm not looking but I catch them. So there will be some looks I'm sure. It certainly is an adventure!
@IrishEyes81 I’m sorry, i feel for you. I also find it uncomfortable sharing personal details with judges/clients etc and we really just can’t hide this. Maybe you can come up with some standard generic subject changers that you are ready with when someone makes a comment.
No Folic acid/pharmaceuticals/supplements (too many to list- private message me if interested), IVIL infusion
@Irisheyes81 sorry that sounds like a stressful situation. I used to work with sex offenders prior to this job and I don’t know how I would handle that situation.
26 weeks today here. Says the little man is about 2 lbs and 14 inches. A couple days will be the 6 month mark.
Question- anyone else ever get restless leg or pain in the legs? I was up until almost 2am having leg pain. So frustrating. I tried stretching and flexing but nothing would make it go away.
Welcome to the second trimester @hottietoddy! I’m also a big fan of affirmations. I haven’t done it much in the pregnancy but during the stimulation part of my IVF cycles I think they were the only thing that kept me sane.
@lablover78 I didn’t do the NIPT testing but I did do another screening that is done around 16-17weeks from a blood test. My doc called it the multiple markers test it’s not as accurate as the NIPT but it’s only a blood test so I agreed to it. I’m not exactly sure what’s all included. But ask them about screening tests that can be done in that window and they might be able to get you some options.
@irisheyes81 even if you don’t do natural a doula can be so helpful. I was looking up statistics on doula assisted births and the rate of c-section, Pitocin, and requests for pain relief were significantly improved. We have talked to a couple doulas and some are a little more pro-natural birth and granola than I can handle. Both of the ones we are interviewing were very much wanting to support whatever we wanted which is what we need. Lol I also won’t tell anyone because I want to go natural because I don’t want them naysaying or telling me I told you so if I cave! Anyways if you are interested I suggest calling some folks up. It seems all the groups in my area do free intros/consults so nothing to lose. Also it seems pretty standard when you sign up you can text them with any little question or concern you have…which is a lot more accessible than the OB, kinda like having a fact checked google at your fingertips. They also do a post-delivery visit to check up at your house to check on how your doing and help with breast feeding advice and that type of stuff if you want it. Most places have the option to continue post-delivery care as well for an additional fee.
My appointment went great yesterday baby’s heartbeat was much easier to find and louder than last time. A strong 150. We have taken to calling the baby little woo-woo because that’s what I think the heartbeat sounds like. I tell you hearing that heartbeat always gives me a high for days.
