Re: 2nd Trimester Check-in Week of March 5th

  • Sorry for the delay posting today! We were without power all weekend due to the snowstorm. We got it back late last night so I've been catching up on so many things today. It was a rough weekend :(

How're you feeling this week? Better now that we have power back! Man it's crazy the things we take for granted, and then when it's gone...we realize how we rely on it! Pregnancy wise, feeling good overall but having days here and there of extreme exhaustion and discomfort. I've been eating smaller meals and spacing them out which is helping my heartburn immensely. I also stop eating by 7p and I've been sleeping better too.
How far along? 24 weeks + 6 days
Appts this coming week? Not this week! My next appt is the glucose test next Thurs. Fun times.
  • Loading the player...
  • Happy Monday! @travelingcouple I hear ya on the power outage! I live in northern Va/DC area and we lost power early Friday due to high winds and didn’t get it back till Saturday afternoon. No electricity didn’t bother me too much (everything was closed so I was supposed to be working from home on Friday but no power = no work and still get paid!) but we live in a high rise so no power = no water which is so not fun!!! We were able to get out and about and finished our registry!

Feeling pretty good. There is officially no mistaking I’m pregnant anymore! Telling my supervisors tomorrow since we got called into the office. Wish me luck!

Appt with the MFM on Wed to see if this little girl has pushed the amniotic band out of the way and moved positions at all. Fingers crossed!!! It’ll be nice to see her again but of course the nerves are starting to creep up that there still might be an issue with this darn band.
  • Happy Monday ladies! Sorry to hear about the loss of power. That would really put a damper on things. Hopefully things are getting back to normal now. That was a pretty bad storm from what I saw on the news...
@TravelingCouple The glucose test wasn't that bad I thought, the drink didn't taste too bad and the baby was kicking around like crazy after drinking it, so be ready for that. It was the most movement I have ever felt, sugar high or something. ;)
@mtpbadger Good luck with your appointment, I hope all goes well for you. It will be so nice to see the babes again. Don't be too nervous (I know easier said than done of course). Thinking about you!
@lablover78 Welcome! And Yay for belly ultrasounds. I still have had a couple of the vag ones to check on cervix size, but mainly they are belly ones now too. Are finding out the sex?

AFM- Other than the excitement of peeing my pants over the weekend haha, not too much going on here. My hubs is out of town for work in London this week, so I am holding down the fort alone with all the animals. We have 2 cats and 2 dogs. Work has been crazy and stressful, so I am just exhausted afterwards and don't do much in the evenings. At least I work from home mostly, but then some days I stay in my jams all day in front of the computer. I really wish the weather would get a bit warmer here in Oregon so I don't have to buy anymore maternity clothes and I can wear all my maxi skirts and flowy dresses that fit around this belly. Come on sunshine! I am also yearning to golf and be outside more often.
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.

@coco305 I'm sorry you went through that, and I hope your OB can maybe help with the itching.

@Holls214 your story cracked me up!

@mtpbadger good luck telling the news to your supervisors and crossing my fingers for you and the amniotic band!

    Hello @lablover78!

@TravelingCouple ugh I've seen photos and glad you got your power back. Thank you for posting the weekly thread!

How're you feeling this week? Bloated. Bloated. And bloated. Constipation isn't so bad, but after I eat a small plate of food, my stomach just gets so big. I look HUGE. Also I've been getting some leg cramps while sleeping. Anyone else have this?

Last week was very stressful due to work and a last minute trip to a client. I flew out yesterday and fly back home Wednesday. The anxiety leading up to the first leg of the flight was awful; there wasn't enough hours and energy in the days leading up to my trip. I had to just accept that lower priority items would not get done, and I didn't want to be separated from DH. But once I got on that plane, I felt better. I got work done on the plane and it is what it is.

I also got compression socks from a nurse/scrubs store to wear for the flights. Did anyone who's been flying or plans to fly wear compression socks or stockings too?

I can't feel the baby kick yet. I hope I'll be able to soon!

    How far along? 21w1d

Appts this coming week? Prenatal massage on Thursday! I fly back from my work trip on Wednesday and i considered rescheduling it so that I could rest the remainder of the week, but what better way to relax than with a massage and spa gift card??? Also looking forward to OB appt and 2nd anatomy scan, which are both next Tuesday.
  • Thanks @Aera11. It's so weird, this chart I have shows the third tri start dates are not nearly as wide a range as second tri:
    <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/5020794/uploads/editor/ke/n7f58mp0h3w5.jpg" alt="">
OMG, I can't even think about June, yet! Lol. That is an exciting day, having the crib arrive.  You'll have to share pics when you get it assembled! ❤

Oh wow, flying all over the place @jr102217 Brave lady!  And Enjoy that massage! :)  I was thinking I might even end up getting the compression socks for work, myself, since I'm on my feet all day.  I look forward to hearing how you like them.

@irisheyes81 don’t google amniotic band bc all that comes up is amniotic band syndrome which is not what I have (that’s when it gets wrapped around part of baby and can cause defects). That was the first thing mg MFM said to me and clarified which I’m glad for! Basically there’s a “string” of the amniotic sac that’s attached in two sides. Almost like a piece of Saran Wrap going across part of my uterus. It wasn’t touching the baby and as she gets bigger she should be able to just push it out of the way but they want to make sure it’s not impeding her growth or ability to move. Still stressful and I hope everything is fine tomorrow!

Thankfully it wasn’t too cold without the power so we didn’t have that to deal with.
  • @BusinessWife compression socks are amazing. Def invest, as they may help later on if you experience edema. I got mine at a runners store, so I could get low cut.
@jr102217 yay for a massage! Also for cramps, try hydrating with coconut water and eating bananas. I hate coconut water, but smart water or Gatorade work well too.
@mtpbadger good luck! Hopefully the band moved out of the way.
@Aera11 it could totally be carpal
    tunnel. The brace has helped.

saw my OB today, everything was fine. She said she will be watching my blood pressure later on, since I tend to have low pressure, she knows that later on in pregnancy it will be a challenge, as it will rise, but it will be hard to differentiate what's normal and what's dangerous, since we don't have a "high bp" baseline for me :/ shiiiit and I thought that was going to be an advantage for me.
  • @BusinessWife yeah one website and one app I use have the second tri starting at different weeks, so funny!  It's definitely the longest of all three even though I felt like the first went by soo slow.

@laurad75 the sound of the baby's heartbeat is the best :) I give you so much credit for doing a 5K!  I walk every day to but that makes me tired just thinking about it haha

@sarcasticowl I had RLP around 14/15 weeks too and I surely thought it was too early but it wasn't and rolling over in bed was when they were the worst.  I think infertility & loss won't ever let any of us just fully relax and enjoy this amazing ride, but I think with each milestone it does get easier.  I had a home doppler too and it helped keep that anxiety at bay but I would still find something to worry about too.  I feel baby kick and move constantly now but if there's ever a day where he/she isn't as active, of course I worry.  But I am so glad that it helps keep you calm after you get to hear her :)

@Irisheyes81 yay for anatomy scan next week!!  The crib purchase was a huge milestone for us/me.  We aren't setting it up til the room is painted but it's here, which is just crazy.

@cseley321 hopefully they can tell you next week if your placenta is anterior or posterior.  Can you see the divet on your butt if you're in a bathing suit?  You're not being dumb!  Our bodies are our bodies and it's amazing what they can do but it's still hard to see them change.  My skin was never ever sensitive and now I am covered in little scratches and scabs and it's like my legs have never met a razor before because I get small strips of razor burn.

@coco305 well that is good that brace is helping then!  I sleep with my hands under my pillow and wake up to them tingling now which never happened before.  We are just more prone to all those things when pregnant so I have been trying to stretch my fingers, wrists and take breaks from typing on the computer.  Hopefully yours clears up!
  • @Irisheyes81 Appointment isn't until 3:10 this afternoon.  I can't wait to get out of here and head over there.

  • @BusinessWife my apps did the same thing for 2nd trimester! It's weird. And oddly, the baby book I write in says I'm now in 3rd trimester at 25 weeks... which is way earlier than all my apps. I think they all just guess! Ha
@Holls214 oh man, gotta love the lack of bladder control! Baby girl has given me some swift kicks to the bladder that make me have to RUN to the bathroom, haha!!
@coco305 I had random itching mostly on my legs around 16 weeks, OB said it was just dry skin and it only lasted like a week maybe? Does lotion help?
@jr102217 I haven't had leg cramps yet with this pregnancy but I did with DS and those are awful! I'd wake up in the middle of the night with a full out Charlie horse. If you can catch it quick enough before it completely develops and flex your foot as hard as you can you can prevent it from completely developing. But magnesium also helps.

Also @lablover78 and @laurad75 when's your EDD? I'll add you to the OP!
Am I missing anyone else in in the OP who's now 2nd trimester?
  • @mtpbadger That is so interesting about the amniotic band.  It's scary to know when things are going on but I feel like we live in a time where they monitor stuff like that and prevent it from being an issue.  Fingers crossed it won't impede the growth but it sounds like it's well out of the way!  How did they find that?

@cseley321 That isn't silly at all! Is it pretty noticeable? I still have a lot of numbness at my injection sites and it just reminds me that I didn't do this the 'normal' way and I still get a little bitter. That's terrible about the infection. It might heal a little bit more hopefully.

@coco305 That is such a bummer about the blood pressure thing. Can't your BP 'baseline' be whatever it is today? I have low bp too and never thought of that.

@Aera11 Are you going to do a theme or specific colors for the nursery? I'm using my niece's crib because she only used it for a year and it's white.  It is in the nursery but not built yet. I'm overwhelmed at all the options!

    • FET November 2017 Transferred one 6 day blast (a little GIRL) BFP EDD 8/4/18

  • @laurad75 @Irisheyes81. I miss you guys too!!!  Omg and to make matters worse, this second one Dec says I'm in second tri.... but it's calling me 13+3, even though I'm only 13+2!!!  So I realised some count it like 13+1-7 rather than 13+0-6???  Omg.  I give up!  I'm calling it!

@TravelingCouple  You want to go ahead and add me, too?  I'm EDD Sept 9th :D
  • @Aera11 yeah it's like right where your underwear sits at your buttcheek. I am sure I can find some swimsuits that cover it, or start wearing shorts. It's like an area the size of a dime but dips 1 inch into my skin, so it's pretty noticeable if I was in a swimsuit. With that being said, I wouldn't do plastic surgery or anything to fix it since it is hidden, but it will always bug me
  • @cseley321 aww it's ok to be upset. That wasn't the easiest time for you, and it sucks to have a scar like that. I am glad you healed up though, that was a scary situation.
@BusinessWife yes! Call it, wecome to the second Tri :)

so based on that: how do you guys count your days? Week 0-6 or week 1-7?
    i do 0-6.
  • @TravelingCouple thanks! My EDD is 9/1.
@Holls214 yes def finding out gender!

I’m disappointed today b/c i finally got my health insurance in place and asked to get the NIPT testing ball rolling, but my OB’s MA told me that I’m too late- have you ladies heard there is only a small window you can have this done? I was really looking forward to the reassurance. I’m 39 so they’ll still refer me for additional testing but I was caught off guard.

  • @lablover78 I thought NIPT could be done any time after 10 weeks. There shouldn't be a cutoff...?
  • @lablover78 I know there is a cut off for the quad screen but I think you can do NIPT after week 10.  Maybe you can get the orders sent to natera or one of those outside labs?

@2MomsHoping I can't wait to hear how things went with the Doula.  I would like to have one also and have aspirations of natural child birth.  I honestly haven't told anyone that because I don't want the judgement eyes when/if I do end up with an epidural.

@hottietoddy Welcome! sorry about the RLP.  Sounds like you are taking amazing care of yourself.

@coco305 I count 0-6 for my 'days'.  That's what the ovia app does so I follow that way. :)

Today I got up and decided to wear maternity clothes.  I was so uncomfortable all day yesterday with regular high wasted leggings that are just too tight now.  My husband said, "you look cute...but pregnant." Now I'm at work and feel uncomfortable. I work at a job where I supervise sex offenders. I'm not sure I should give up a ton of personal info about me on here but it's important to the story.  There is an offender in the waiting room right now and I can't bring myself to take off my big puffy coat.  I mean, eventually they are all going to know.  In fact, I can only wear gigantic sweaters for a while before it looks obvious.  I just want to be comfortable physically and emotionally and I feel like I get either or.  I'm not complaining under any stretch.  I just don't share my personal life at work EVER and now I can't hide because it's on the outside.  Thanks for listening.  Every day seems like a new adventure :)

  • @lablover78 if I remember correctly they can only do it between 10 and 13 weeks. I almost ran into the same issue because I didn't setup with my OB until I was released from the RE at 12 weeks. I didn't ask why though, so I am not sure of the reasoning

@lablover78 I'm sorry to hear they didn't tell you there was a window. I wish they would have communicated that to you sooner so you could have made an informed decision to pay out of pocket if you wanted to.  I had an insurance issue in January as they set things up and it was not fun and confusing so I know how frustrating it can be.

@Irisheyes81 wow that sounds like a stressful situation. It sounds like you are very professional and brave.  I don't have the same situation but I can certainly understand being stressed about sharing with others and them looking at your body. The first few random people (work, grocery store, other than friends and family) I told have had some very weird responses.  People tend to tell you the weirdest details about their fertility and any horror story they know.  I've gotten a vasectomy story from a potential client (had never met him before).-----  TW----Yesterday my tax accountant randomly told us his ex wife's entire fertility history including her endometriosis and how she had DS on a third baby they decided not to keep.  And another client told me about when her neice didn't keep a baby like 15 years ago too!!  I can't believe the things people say. Anyway, I've talked to others and they say it is a thing too....so I've learned to brace myself, not get upset and change the subject.  Anyway- sorry to ramble but my point is- you might brace yourself for some weird comments. Every person I tell I'm pregnant does a quick body scan of me- eyes up and down- they try and do it when I'm not looking but I catch them. So there will be some looks I'm sure. It certainly is an adventure!
  • @irisheyes81 I’m so sorry you have to deal with that! My sister did to, she’s a probation/parole officer and she said she just didn’t address it if one of her offenders brought it up but I know she was uncomfortable as well when she was pregnant and tried to hide it as much as possible from ppl on her case load. I think someone asked if she was pregnant once and she said “nope, just fat” and that shut the offender up. And she’s tiny so she was all belly and it was obvious she was pregnant.

Thanks ladies! My OB called me directly this morning (so in love with him!) I think maybe they were confused about what I was asking but he is referring me to a specialist for Mat21 ASAP :) He was suprised RE didn’t discuss 1st tri screening with me- apart from getting me ph they really were the worst.

@IrishEyes81 I’m sorry, i feel for you. I also find it uncomfortable sharing personal details with judges/clients etc and we really just can’t hide this. Maybe you can come up with some standard generic subject changers that you are ready with when someone makes a comment.

  • @lablover78 I just thought of something - the people who told you the cutoff time had lapsed might have been thinking about the NT test and not the NIPT. Easily confused if referenced by the initials. NT can only be done during a specific time. I'm so glad you got the OB on the case, though! Can't wait to hear what you're having!
  • @Irisheyes81 Wow that sounds stressful, I'm sorry you're going through that. Your job sounds really intense without even being pregnant, I'm sure being pregnant makes it even moreso. It angers me that you even have to worry at all about being comfortable for fear of being objectified by others at your work. Grrrr. Does your boss know and support you?
  • @mtpbadger great news! How cool to see 3D. I bet that was exciting. It’s so cool to see them moving around so much in there. :)

@Irisheyes81 sorry that sounds like a stressful situation. I used to work with sex offenders prior to this job and I don’t know how I would handle that situation.

26 weeks today here. Says the little man is about 2 lbs and 14 inches. A couple days will be the 6 month mark.

Question- anyone else ever get restless leg or pain in the legs? I was up until almost 2am having leg pain. So frustrating. I tried stretching and flexing but nothing would make it go away.

  • Welcome to the second trimester @hottietoddy!  I’m also a big fan of affirmations.  I haven’t done it much in the pregnancy but during the stimulation part of my IVF cycles I think they were the only thing that kept me sane.

@lablover78 I didn’t do the NIPT testing but I did do another screening that is done around 16-17weeks from a blood test.  My doc called it the multiple markers test it’s not as accurate as the NIPT but it’s only a blood test so I agreed to it.  I’m not exactly sure what’s all included.  But ask them about screening tests that can be done in that window and they might be able to get you some options.

@irisheyes81 even if you don’t do natural a doula can be so helpful.  I was looking up statistics on doula assisted births and the rate of c-section, Pitocin, and requests for pain relief were significantly improved.  We have talked to a couple doulas and some are a little more pro-natural birth and granola than I can handle.  Both of the ones we are interviewing were very much wanting to support whatever we wanted which is what we need.  Lol I also won’t tell anyone because I want to go natural because I don’t want them naysaying or telling me I told you so if I cave!  Anyways if you are interested I suggest calling some folks up.  It seems all the groups in my area do free intros/consults so nothing to lose.  Also it seems pretty standard when you sign up you can text them with any little question or concern you have…which is a lot more accessible than the OB, kinda like having a fact checked google at your fingertips.  They also do a post-delivery visit to check up at your house to check on how your doing and help with breast feeding advice and that type of stuff if you want it.  Most places have the option to continue post-delivery care as well for an additional fee.

My appointment went great yesterday baby’s heartbeat was much easier to find and louder than last time.  A strong 150.  We have taken to calling the baby little woo-woo because that’s what I think the heartbeat sounds like.  I tell you hearing that heartbeat always gives me a high for days.
