  • @offtoneverland. Hi!! It's sooo great seeing you here!!

I totally get what your saying! I don't know why past boards decided to do it this way, but maybe just so it keeps the possibility of duplicating down in case someone doesn't look close enough. I could be totally wrong but that's what I thought. It said on the board organization that if doesn't get posted by mid morning from the person assigned, then anyone can post it. I don't mind doing it either way personally.

We definitely don’t have to do it this way. This is how it was done on my previous bmb and I looked into O18 before posting this to see if things were still running the same around here and saw that they were. Of course, we don’t have to follow suit, but as the pp said, it just helps with organization and cuts down on double posts. Also, it really helps people get involved.

@CopperBoom86 I guess we can see what people say once we have more people. But all the other BMBs who don't have assigned posts have just as many people getting involved, so I just don't think this is necessary. But obviously I can't speak for everyone.

I'm also super confused now. This thread does not match the board organization thread that @Whitmore1027 posted. Thursdays are supposed to be for Weekly Due Date check in threads, and there are no ticker changes. So why does this one have ticker changes? I'm thoroughly confused.
Perhaps we can combine both board organization threads into one? It's confusing that there are two, especially when they contain different information...
Sorry, not trying to start off by complaining so much! But I greatly prefer the weekly due date threads, and it seems like almost every other BMB does...so I think it's best to go with the organization thread that @Whitmore1027 posted earlier.
ETA: It's not just the ticker changes that are different. There are several things that are different from the other thread (Product Spotlight, TTGP Grad Check in, PGAL, Why my SO is a..., Canadian Check in, Why my SO is awesome, Small Business Saturday, Symptoms, Weekly Questions, Healthy Habits, CS Support, Home Birth).

  • @offtoneverland Haha, I didn't notice this was different than the Board Organization. I just stole it from the October board, just like each board steals it from the other.

We used Daily Ticker Changes when I was a part of the August 2016 BMB, so I automatically signed up for that. I know it said different boards decide on either the Ticker change or the Weekly Due Date. I guess I don't really understand how the weekly due date one works...can you explain? But I am good with anything! Hopefully more people start to way in their thoughts soon!

  • @Whitmore1027 The weekly due date check ins are designed so that instead of checking in with people who are 4 or 5 weeks ahead/behind you (like the ticker changes), you'll be checking in with people who are within a week of your due date. So instead of daily threads, there are usually 4 threads per week for a range of due dates. So November's would be something like this:
-First week check in for due dates from November 1st-10th (tacking on a few days here to make the weeks even)
-Second week check in for due dates from November 11th-17th
-Third week check in for due dates from November 18th-24th
-Fourth week check in for due dates from November 25th-30th
It's set up the same way as ticker changes with questions and GTKYs...so it's essentially the exact same thing, just with other people near your due date.

  • @offtoneverland I didn’t mean that more people in general would participate. I meant that in life in general, when you give someone a “responsibility,” they tend to stick around. I was just trying to cultivate an atmosphere of consistency.

As as for the specific threads, I copied and pasted what I thought were standard threads. Any of the ones I didn’t copy over, I thought may have been specialty threads just for O18 (where it was copied from) because I hadn’t really heard of them before. The daily ticker changes have always been standard in all bmbs that I’ve participated in/lurked in, so I added them.

Honestly, it’s really not that big of a deal. I was just trying to get things going. If you’d like to do something different, that’s fine. Like I said, I was just taking the lead from previous bmbs.

To add- I said if anyone wanted to add threads, that was fine. Like, for example... why have a Canadian check in if we don’t even know if we’ll have any Canadians here... same with TTGP grads.

  • @CopperBoom86 I think it's great you're trying to get things going! I was just confused as to why the organization was different. Can you just edit yours to copy what @Whitmore1027 posted in her thread to reduce any confusion? We don't have to plan all the threads now, of course, since there's only like 4 people here right now. :) The board will work itself out in time. I just think the two organization threads need to match, otherwise we'll have ticker changes and weekly due date check ins, and other things being posted on the wrong dates. Only going with @Whitmore1027's because she posted hers 45 minutes earlier than yours, so it seems fair to go with whoever posted it first.  :p

  • @offtoneverland Just to clear up any confusion for you, I’ll just delete this thread altogether. Like I said, I was just following suit. If you go look at the first page of O18’s board, they have a post sign up, as well, that is separate from the guidelines. And in regards to it being the exact same, I just assumed we didn’t have to use the exact same threads.

@Whitmore1027 If you want to do sign ups, that’s completely up to you since it’ll be on your post :)

  • @offtoneverland Ohh Okay! I understand! I like that idea! So, once a week we would put up a thread of "First Week of November (1-9) Check In" "Second Week of November (10-16) Check In" Etc, and those would be put up once a week? For some reason I was thinking it was put up only once a month. Haha. Does it matter what days they are on? Should they all be put up on Monday's maybe?

I am okay with that if everyone else is.

I totally agree, everything will work itself out! I think we are just excited to get going!! And lots of members don't really like to take lead so they won't really post anything until a thread is up.

But I do like the idea of specific people taking on threads. It's only if they want to of course! I think it helps keep things organized, because there seems to be a whole lot more threads than other boards. It can also be a unspoken thing. I think naturally, people will post the same thing because they get used to it. But also, if no one is assigned, people might just keep waiting for others to post it, and it just won't get done. That's how I felt a bit about the TFAS on the TTGP board. I was excited to see that one post each week and I would wait for someone else to post it, and it just wouldn't happen. But maybe I should have taken more initiative! lol

  • @CopperBoom86 Please don't delete it! I really liked your list, I just though we needed to clarify why some of the threads were different. I can't be the only person that would be confused if I signed up for PGAL check in here, but didn't see it on the other list. All I was saying is that they should match.
And I think you're probably both right about people signing up for threads. I didn't see that the original guidelines said if it wasn't posted by mid-morning, someone else could do it. On some of the other boards, I do see a lot of people saying "well, I was thinking about this 2 weeks ago but it wasn't posted yet..." so you're right that it would get people to participate. I'm sorry if the way I worded it sounded harsh. I was just thinking that I already have so many things to remember (don't we all though?), that I was hesitant to sign up for a weekly thing because I was afraid it would give me too much to remember.
I just asked a question to start a discussion, and I'm sad you deleted your thread because I think this is probably a good idea. :(

  • @CopperBoom86 Yeah! Don't delete it! Let's get it put up and work on it! We will get it all worked out! :) We can edit either one!

I agree we don't need some of those threads. Honestly when I copied it for the Board Discussion, I was going to delete some of the weird ones, and the ones I had never heard of before. I can go in there and delete the weird ones, then you can copy and paste it in here so they both match! Let me know what you think! I was looking at the Board Organization one as kind of a "sample" then we as a group can edit and delete which ones we want to use!

  • @Whitmore1027 Sure, go ahead and update the thread how you like it. We can add more/delete some as needed as time goes on. It's up to you if you want to keep ticker changes or weekly due date threads. We can have a bigger board-wide poll or something later when more people have joined, if you want.
Do you want to add a statement to your organization post about who wants to sign up for which threads? We can sign up for a few for now, and leave the rest open for the others who haven't yet joined November since we're the early birds. :)
To answer your question, I have no idea which day of the week is best for the due date check ins (if that's what you choose to stick with for now). Monday seems to make sense since it's the beginning of the week, but any day would do.
