Ugh, I have a list of things to do and as soon as I get it done, I panic and try to think of more things that need done. I just feel like I'm sitting here being useless when there is so much to do but I don't know what to do because it's mostly all done. Ahhh I'm going crazy!
Emma is 2 weeks old now and her 2 week follow up is on Wednesday. I’m dreading it because I’m afraid they’re gonna tell me I need to supplement because she isn’t gaining weight fast enough she hasn’t been weighed since last week and her appetite has picked up so much since then but I’m still afraid. I’ve been busting my butt breastfeeding her!
@BrittnieMariee with my first I had to supliment a bit with formula bc I was not producing enough. I know it's so hard when you have a plan to exclusively bf and then need to change gears (especially post partum, oh the tears I shed!) But just try to remember there are lots of ways to feed your baby and none of then are wrong! I ended up bf and then also doing a bottle at night if I felt he was still hungry. This also helped my hubby bond a bit by giving him the bottle and me a chance to rest!
@bravoandprosecco since my milk came in she seems to be doing much better. Her jaundice slowed things down because I could NOT get her to wake up for feedings. Now she’s eating about every 3 hours and I think she’s doing much better now. I’m hoping she’s gained a bit of weight and they give her a chance to catch up. My son was formula fed. I had to give up breastfeeding because I had no supply with him. This time I’m producing much more I’m so hopeful but if I have to supplement I definitely will. Fed is best! I had so much mommy guilt with my son though, omg.
@BrittnieMariee could you weigh yourself alone and then with her to get her estimated weight? That’s what we did the other night because at her 3 day appt they seemed concerned about her weight loss so I wanted to be sure she was gaining. May not be entirely accurate, but??
I dont know where else to put this so its going here... Does anyone have any good way to deal with cracked nipples? I remember dealing with this with my first but I don't remember how I got through it. I'm trying to fix her shallow latch and am using a ton of lanolin. Anything else I can do?
So my neighbor told me to try Evening primrose to help with cervix softening, anyone know if that is safe or should I stay away? I am going to ask my ob at my appointment but was just wondering if anyone had heard of this.
@ashleyf911. I had them with both my kids. They had undiscovered lip and tongue ties which caused the shallow latch. I brought it up to my ped with my second child and he referred me to an ENT doctor who snipped my second’s tongue tie at 14 days old. It made a world of difference and improved our BF situation. I was able to go on to BF until he self weaned. In the mean time expressing some BM after feeding and airing out helped. Also using a good nipple cream - Earth Mama angel baby was a lifesaver in between.
Woohoo! 3 to 4 cm from 1 to 2 last week. Induction also set for Tuesday, the 6th if she doesn't come on her own. He did strip my membranes, but that only works for 1 out 4 women.
@ashleyf911 not speaking from experience because I'm a FTM, but I just took a BF class on Saturday. They recommended some of your own milk as some others have mentioned or organic coconut oil.
@BrittnieMariee thinking of you! Hopefully the day goes quickly. You've got this!!
@DDRRT1982 Awesome! I am hoping for the same thing on Wednesday!
I think nesting has hit. Yesterday I felt terrible and spent half the day in bed. Today I have almost totally cleaned my house and went grocery shopping and bought stupid amounts of things but they seemed important at the time- 5 boxes of cereal and 10 boxes of granola bars were the main culprit. I still need to vacuum and mop and maybe wax the floors.
@ashleyf911 Speaking from experience (unfortunately lots of cracked nip experience, as in, gaping holes in both sides the size of M&M’s, no exaggeration) expressing milk and then making sure your nipples completely dry before covering up is what helped me the most. Also be sure if you’re using nursing pads that you’re changing them out right away if they get wet at all.
I had tried everything with my last experience. Lanolin, Earth Mama, coconut oil, the magic cream or whatever it’s called (prescription) you name it, I did it. Unfortunately it seemed the more wet (moist, hate that word ha!) the worse my wounds got and they just were not healing. Then I ended up with thrush and Mastitis, it was so awful!
You didn’t ask for tips on latch, but DD had an undiagnosed lip tie which caused the majority of our first 8 week struggle. The LC couldn’t help me, apparently she doesn’t know what a lip tie is? Anyway, she said our latch was perfect and it was not after doing my own research. I ended up coming across a helpful latch method called the Flipple Technique on YouTube, I now recommend it to everyone and am using it again this go around! That and air drying after each time she nurses and after my shower and it seems so far so good. Hoping it continues as last time was a nightmare and I nearly threw in the towel several times.
And for the record, nursing is not easy. If anyone tells you it is, they’re liars.
I had an appointment this morning, so I got into work late. I've had multiple people now come by and tell me how I "created waves" this morning and everyone thought I had the baby over the weekend since I wasn't here. Apparently I need to send out emails to the whole company informing them of my appointments and not just my boss? Chill out people, and mind your own business.

Haha people are so ridiculous. That happened to me, too.
@BrittnieMariee@kbbtah@mmom3@stlbuckeye132@chasingroygbiv thanks ladies!! It was only 2 years ago that I dealt with it with DS but couldn't for the life of me remember how I got through it. Funny how time makes you forget the bad stuff. I'll give those ideas a shot and look up that flipple technique!
Also, I am definitely having a baby today! So many of us with February babies. Contractions start at 0100. At the hospital now finally relaxing after the epidural.
@cford08. - glad I could help! A good friend of mine suggested it and sure enough getting it snipped saved our BF relationship. Hopefully you can get your little guy’s fixed quickly!
On a a different note, my induction this morning was cancelled by the hopsital so we’ll see what happens when I have my regular OB check up later today. I’m a little miffed because my husband is off work, arranged child care with multiple people, and were up and ready to walk out the door. Such a waste of time and days off for the husband.
Induction is officially cancelled for today. We can try again tomorrow morning. The coordination of multiple child care help and wasted vacation days for DH have me extremely upset. He only gets a handful each year.

Good luck to those of you approaching labor! It’ll be a thing if the past soon enough! I can hardly believe my girl is already 2 weeks old!

@mmom3 that is super frustrating, especially with all the related plans you had to make. Hope your OB has good news for you today.
