Cora name popularity?

We love the name Cora (middle name Lee). We have since before we knew she was a girl but now it's #2 on nameberry. Is it really that popular? I've never known anyone else named Cora and I just don't want her to have an overused name.

It’s not terribly popular. The social security lists it as #87. It’s trending up but not super quickly. It only jumped one spot since the previous year.

You can search the actual popularity of a baby name on the US Social Security website, and they will even allow you to search popularity by state.

I only know of two Cora's and they are both from different areas. I haven't met any girls named Cora in either of my children's schools or the school that I work in.

Nameberry rankings are specific to nameberry. It just shows how often a name is searched for on their site. The SSA has usage records. Cora is trending up.

I love the name Cora always have. If you love it use it I say! We fell in love with the name Aria. Of course the year we used it, it jumped to 23 on the list. Still I love it and can't imagine her as any other name! I doubt Cora will be in the top 10 nameberry popularity doesn't always translate to what the actual statistics are or will be with baby names.

Thank you all! I guess I should be happy people like it but it freaked me out. I think we'll be sticking with it - I just can't imagine giving her another name at this point.

Nameberry shows how often people look it up and it seems like people are less likely to look up names they are very familiar with like Ava, Olivia. Those are both far more popular than Cora but might not rank high on Nameberry

We have a Cora! I never knew anyone with the name until we had ours. Since then I think I’ve run into 4 or 5 others.

It’s a beautiful name, I’ve only ever met 2 people with that name. A teenager and a baby.

We had the same issue with Evelyn. However, popular does not always mean trendy. Even if there are more Cora’s nowadays, it will Still be classic and not dated. Go for it if you love it!
