Fit Friday 2/16

Another week (almost) in the books!

How did you do this past week with your fitness/workout goals?

Is there any new workout clothing (maternity or otherwise) or gear that you're loving lately?

If you're game, commit here to doing one extra thing this weekend to support your health goals:

Re: Fit Friday 2/16

  • How did you do this past week with your fitness/workout goals? Good! I've settled into a rhythm of going to spin class 2-3 mornings during the week and supplementing with a yoga or pilates class on the weekends. It's not a ton, but it feels sustainable and in combination with a decent amount of walking keeps me in a good mental space.

Is there any new workout clothing (maternity or otherwise) or gear that you're loving lately? I finally pulled the trigger on some maternity capris a couple weeks ago, and have been loving them. They're super awkward looking with the full belly panel and a little warm in sweatier classes, but smooth under workout tops and make me feel so supported. I've also heard good things about their less expensive version for Target.

If you're game, commit here to doing one extra thing this weekend to support your health goals: This is a little weak but, as long as it's not raining, I will force my husband to walk the mile it takes to get breakfast tacos tomorrow morning :)

  • I haven't done this before, so I don't really have answers to the questions. But I'm trying to get better.

    Started prenatal yoga now that I have a plush yoga mat. Turned out to be harder than expected and could only do 15mins. Ended up being unable to sleep that night {wtf .... anyone else experience that part?}

Also now that we're having some warm days, I'm trying to walk home. It's a 10-15min walk. Not horrible, but on super snowy or cold days, it feels forever.
I take my time because winter boots are heavy and it seems to be playing havoc with my hips. Progress though.

I'll continue posting now that I'm doing this, hopefully it'll get easier before it gets harder lol
  • @MissKittyDanger are you doing a video? I’ve been doing regular yoga videos but am struggling to find ones without twists or time on my belly, but the prenatal ones I’ve found feel more like meditation and holding my belly while breathing. Can’t find a happy medium.
  • @pupsicle23 I am! They have different girls to follow based on your movement/trimester. I'll get the name and let you know what it is. So far so good at least!
  • Props to you ladies.

@emiliadkay I think sustainable is key for any workout routine.

AFM Either my kids or myself have been sick for a couple weeks so we've been quarantined at home and I've not graced the gym with my presence for a while.

Hoping to have everyone healthy enough in the next couple days to get back to the gym.

As for workout clothes I'm just rolling regular leggings down under my bump and wearing a maternity t-shirt from Motherhood. I'm super tall with a long torso, though, so I'm starting to get some awkward midrift exposure during classes. DH's t-shirts will be my next step. (Or maternity tanks since they tend to be longer.)
  • @pupsicle23 YES. I've done a couple prenatal yoga classes at a studio and I have the same issue with them...there's sooo much "one hand over your heart, one hand of your baby" nonsense and a lot of rocking back and forth. What I really want is a "normal" yoga class that's a little less intense and where I don't have to worry about being singled out for modifications, but it's hard to find!

@llamamama14 Yep, I too am starting to flash a half inch of belly when I try to get away with certain t-shirts as workout tops. Especially because my regular leggings work rolled down but create a really un-cute muffin top effect at this point. Let me know if you find any maternity tanks you like!

@MissKittyDanger Well done and keep it up! I read more and more about how important a moderate amount of exercise is during pregnancy and, as I think @llamamama14 said a few weeks ago, this second trimester is our best shot at getting a routine going.
