TTC After a Loss

Intro and a Question

Hi ladies, I've been lurking for awhile and I think I'm finally ready to join. We had been trying since Oct and got the BFP on Christmas Day and joined the Sept BMB. In mid-January I started spotting, then bleeding while on a work trip, m/c was confirmed a couple days after I got back.

I had my quants taken weekly and got my levels back down to zero, and have had a period since - but how long did it take you ladies to get back to what felt like a normal cycle for trying again?

Based on what had been normal for me, I should have ovulated by now and there is no sign. All negative on the 2x daily OPKs where I previously had no problems with them detecting lh surge. I am 35, so I am trying to not let the timetable of it all freak me out.

This is was my first loss, but it is much more jarring than I would have anticipated. Much love and respect for all of you, esp for those who have had repeated and later losses. I can't imagine. :(

Re: Intro and a Question

  • Welcome to the group and I am so sorry for your loss. I think the most common answer you will find to your question is that there really is no normal after a mc. Some of us have 'physically' bounced back within the first cycle or two and others have waited months for their bodies to get back on track. I'm not a doctor by any means but after being on this board for a year and suffering through RPL, I've found that those that mc'd without a d&c often have gotten back to 'normal' a bit quicker than those that had the d&c. But again, everyone is different and our new normal is that there is no normal. Good luck with your journey, I hope your stay here is short.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Welcome. @40momma said it perfectly. Personally my cycles were regular pretty quick (nmc just before 7 weeks and a cp at 4weeks). I hope yours get back to normal quickly for you.
  • So sorry for your loss. Welcome. I agree with @40momma
  • I’m so sorry for your loss.  I’ve had 2 post loss cycles and I ovulated (based on OPK) on about the same day as I did prior to my loss both times.  Unfortunately, as others said, there really is no normal after a miscarriage.  Your cycles may eventually return to the way they were or you may end up with a new normal.  If there’s still no sign of ovulation after 2-3 cycles I would talk to your doctor.

  • Welcome and sorry for your loss.  Yep, I agree with the ladies above; it's different for everyone, and there is no normal.  With my CP, my cycle returned to normal right away, and I got pregnant again the first month.  Unfortunately, that ended in a MMC and D&C.  It took 32 days for my period to come back, and I didn't ovulate beforehand.  I am temping again and will start using OPKs in a few days to pinpoint ovulation.  I'm 40, so I definitely understand your stress about time.  My OB keeps telling me that I shouldn't worry though, plenty of women 35+ go on to have healthy pregnancies :)
  • Thanks everyone for the responses and I am also sorry for your losses.
