Weekly Questions w/o 1/28

Re: Weekly Questions w/o 1/28

  • @Wishilivedinflorida There's no right answer. I joined baby wearing international local chapter, so I could learn carries and borrow wraps. I prefer longer wraps, but others prefer shorter. I was suggested to use a 4, and I hated it, even though I'm little.

  • Oh my gosh thank you @knitknitread and @pourmeamocktail. I have some reading and investigating to do!
  • I want to babywear, but had no idea there are so many options! I’m glad there are so many in this group with experience. Will be checking to see about a babywear international group in my area. Seems that’s the way to go.

I'm a 2 prepreg, 5'4", and use a 6 for most squish carries and still have longish tails. On the flip side, as babe got older, I wanted a shorter wrap for less wrap intensive carries and a 6 feels like way too much.

Again, rabbit hole! You'll always want moar baby carriers!!

Eta the weight and fiber content of the wrap matters too. My 6 100% cotton has much shorter tails that my 6 50/50 cotton bamboo in the same carry.
  • @Patience7150 That is so so true! The density can make a huge difference. A wrap that's 210 g/m2 is going to feel longer than a 310 g/m2 wrap.

I wasn't going to get in to that until later, hahaha. There is so much info to try to get through and so much of it can come down to personal preference.

I like thicker wraps for single layer carries and thinner wraps for multi layer carries. But I know people who like thicker wraps for everything or thinner wraps for everything.

    There's so much variety.
  • I'm too lazy to start a new thread (I'm on mobile). This is mostly for S+TMs. What does it feel like when you start to show? I feel like I have a gut but it's really low. Like a slightly chubby area just above my pubic bone. Is this my uterus rising up?!

  • @starla Oh oh! Me too! And I can't suck it in which makes me feel like it's a real bump.
  • Things to remember though- even our uterii (lol, is that the plural?) are still below pubic bone, they've grown quite a bit, and pushed important things like intestines and such out of their way while they did. So it's probably not actual baby, but it's baby caused bump, not strictly bloating or whatnot.

  • @prpl11butterfly I'm 10w2d but I've been measuring as much as 4 days ahead.
@pourmeamocktail I'm not talking about bloat. I know what that's like. I mean the very top of your pubic bone. When I went to a MW appointment when I was KU before she said that around that time (11w) is when the uterus starts to rise up. She thought she could feel just the very top of it but I don't know what it feels like.

  • @starla it kind of feels like a ridge, once it's high enough you'll be able to press in an upward motion and likely feel it that way.
  • @starla I came to stalk this thread after you mentioned it. Yes, I have the same slightly chubby area above my pubic bone too, it was not there prior!

  • What it feels like to me is a really right muscle just above your pubic bone. This is baby #3 for me and I’ve felt the top of my uterus for the last couple of weeks and have found the heartbeat with my Doppler just below my belly button

  • @megnwingate I had PTL at 35 weeks but my baby was sick so we did an emergency c. My MFM chose to forego the shots this time because I'll deliver at 35/36 weeks regardless. We will do cervical length checks bi weekly starting 16 weeks
  • @ellbeedee not looking forward to the shots again, but whatever I can do to keep baby baking. This OB doesn’t want to cervical length checks. Which I think I’m ok with.
