Re: TTTC Checkin 02/07/2018

  • Hi all! Not much to report for me. I started my estrogen patches in preparation for my IVF cycle, most of my meds arrived last night, and I’m just waiting until AF arrives next week. I sent a pic of everything to my family last night and I think they think I’m nervous, but I’m not. I’ve already done this once and I’m just ready to go. Plus it was an impressive size cooler of meds that arrived. Last cycle I had to pick up meds a little at a time so it’s kind of fun to have them all in one place.

QOTW I will rant at myself because I have a TON of deadlines this month and I’m totally lacking motivation, which is just going to lead to panic.

    @Bababatty - cool!
I am medicating and anxiously awaiting FET#2. Should be around Feb 21. I am really nervous this time. Hopeful, but (obviously) so, so nervous.

ETA: QOTW: Curiously, I have nothing to rant about today. At last, a day of peace. Or maybe it's just that I'm so focussed on FET #2, I can't think about anything else.

Ahhhh @funkykey FINALLY! I feel like we’ve both been sitting around forever. You can distract yourself by telling us all about your vacation. How was it??

ETA @ChristenMA83 How are stims going so far? Good luck tomorrow!

    @bababatty come on AF!

@funkykey oh your FET is sooo close now. Fx for good prep these next two weeks!

@christenma83 hope you have a good first monitoring tomorrow!

AFM lots of calling around different doctors, trying to sort out local monitoring (seems near impossible...), trying to get appointments as fast as possible with a haematologist and an immunologist (who seem to work very very slowly), trying to understand the expectations from the new clinic, ensure all tests are really what they want and not lost in translation, translating all documents between german and English (and vice verse) as nobody seems able or willing to use google translate. Oh and trying to write a thesis, deliver at work and deal with a legal issue. It’s probably a good job we’re not stimming this cycle to be honest.
Not sure yet if we’ll be able to start the first cycle end of Feb or a month later. Every month we wait really makes me nervous about the decline in my egg quantity and quality though...

ETA QOTW - ooops I think my whole post was a rant sorry!

  • @Bababatty I’m glad that you are about ready to get started!

@funkykey FX for your FET!! Also, I am curious like @Bababatty, how was your vacation?!

@ChristenMA83 FX for a good appointment tomorrow! I hope you have lots of follies growing!

@emmasemm girl you are busy! I’m glad the ball is rolling for you!

AFM: my first u/s is tomorrow and I am excited, but nervous. If all goes well I will probably graduate myself.

QOTW: I’ll direct my rant at coworkers who don’t know what they’re doing, thus making everyone else’s job harder.
  • Good luck everyone! A lot of good things happening for people right now.

AFM- finished some antibiotics for an infection they found that may be (TW-loss) a remnant of my miscarriage a few months ago. Doc thought that may be why I was spotting and explain some of the pain. In good news, I haven't spotted yet and AF should be here tomorrow so maybe that was part of the issue? Hoping that maybe I can get back on track and have normal cycles now! Just hoping there was no permanent damage from a 6 month infection!!!

QOTW- I am a professor at a university and lord, have my students been extra needy and helpless lately!! I just want to shout at them "you're in grad school! Get. It. Together. And leave me out of it!" So many pointless meetings and emails. Don't they know I'm trying to NOT stress out?!
  • @ChristenMA83 - I can see how that would be annoying, but also - your office sounds fun! I'm also anxious to see how you're progressing! FX!

@emmasemm - sounds like a lot of work! Hang in there and good luck!

@Bababatty @Kim41313 - OMG so nice, thank you for asking! It was like a dream, we loved it. We haven't done anything like that in a while, because paying for IVF was so brutal. I'd honestly forgotten how nice it is to just lie on a beach all day and then guzzle really nice Chardonnay... For a whole week.... Amazing. And we snorkelled with sea turtles. Highly recommended. I am feeling very chill. Even at work, my colleagues were like: "wow, you seem so relaxed!" Hahaha.

@allisona66 - Welcome! When was your MC? When do your treatments start? How old are you?

Your rant made me laugh. DH and I are constantly shaking our heads about "today's young people and their instagram addictions", which makes us feel super, super old even though we're not really that old. I imagine being a professor, you'd see a lot of the young millennial antics!
  • @Bababatty Yay for starting!  How exciting...keeping my fingers crossed for you.
@funkykey So glad your FET is finally coming up soon.  And I am so glad you had a wonderful vacation and feeling relaxed.  Snorkeling with sea turtles sounds amazing......except for the snorkeling part.  LOL. I got super bad motion sickness snorkeling on our honeymoon.  But I do like sea turtles.
@ChristenMA83 So glad your stims are going well.

I've been feeling much better lately....at least, I'm having a lot more good days then bad.  I'd be better except the combination of looking too much at my computer screen at work and the fact that I'm pretty sure I jacked my neck up a bit with my new workout have been causing pretty frequent headaches.  But that's a whole other story.

QOTW: I really don't know if I have any ranting except that work is super boring right now and it's driving me crazy.  The assisted living I work in has 20 rooms and we are 6 rooms down right now, which makes a HUGE difference.  The staff are bored because there's not as much to do care wise for the residents so they get all their work done super early. I'm bored because the residents that we do have are also pretty low maintenance from an administration stand point.  I already have all of my start of the month work done, and it's too early to start on the stuff for next month.  On the plus side.....our building is super clean since the staff have taken to disinfecting the banisters, light switches, doorknobs, etc almost daily just for something to do.  It just makes the days crawl.

  • @Kim41313 FX for tomorrow's u/s!!

@allisona66 hopefully with the infection cleared up you'll be able to move forward.  LOL at your rant, I've taken adult college courses and some of the students shock me at their inability to help themselves.  You're adults!  Figure it out!

@funkykey that sounds like an amazing vacation; so glad you enjoyed yourselves.

AFM: My appointment this morning went well.  14 leaders at 10-11.  Doc said he likes to see 10-15 at this size right now so he's pleased with my progress.  Bloodwork results just came back.  They want me to lower my Gonal-F dose tonight and start the antagonist tomorrow night.

@funkykey your estimated FET date is right around the time I can test so we can count it down together!!!

@ChristenMA83 Ahh, it feels so good when things are going according to plan!!!  That's a great report.

Rant: have a cold that just won't quit.  have had it for a little over a week so definitely all during my IUI time which was annoying and made me feel less hopeful about the whole thing (I don't know why, not sure that it would impact but it feels like it would).  now I'm just ready to be able to live without blowing my nose 46 times a day.

  • @allisona66 I work in financial aid at a medical school--I feel your pain.  These kids may be brilliant at science, but that all goes out the window when we're discussing finances.  :)  (But thank goodness, b/c otherwise I wouldn't have a job!)

AFM: AF was supposed to come last night, and it didn't.  It always comes on CD26 (today) in the early morning.  I woke up at 3am and took a test, and it was a BFN.  Since then, I've seen a tiny bit of spotting, so I think I'll be out by tomorrow.  AF just wanted to mess with me and get my hopes up for a second.

QOTW: Adoption paperwork.  OKAY.  An example of one of the TEN essay questions that are part of the application: "Please tell about your relationship with your parents and how their discipline and values shaped you over time."  This isn't a particularly probing question (those come later, in the home-study), but it's still pretty personal, and I try to be honest, but not TOO honest to where they think I'm off-the-charts loony.  And you try to convince your eye-rolling husband to answer 10 essay questions (similar to that one) in writing.  It's not like he's trying to be obstinate or doesn't want to adopt--but he's just taking forever in doing his part, and it's literally the only thing we have left to do.  Then once we get that turned in, we may be put on a wait list before we can complete our home study.  I need a vacation, man.  And $15,000.   :D

Hey everyone, seems like so many exciting things coming up this month, I can’t wait to hear about everyone’s IVF cycles!

@funkykey that sounds like perfection, we’ve been getting a lot of pretty warm weather here this week and I’m totally ready for some beach or pool time!

@allisona66 I’m so sorry about your loss, I’ve had three and it’s so hard waiting for your body to get back to “normal” (or what passes for normal around here, haha) I am glad they got the infection taken care of!

@Kim41313 yay, so exciting, I know seeing that heartbeat will be a huge sigh of relief!!!!!  As my mom would say, try not to worry until there’s something to worry about

@Bababatty so excited for you to get moving!!!  I’m glad you’re not feeling nervous!!!

AFM, finally had AF show up last week so I’ve started the round of testing with our new RE.  I am really excited but also extremely nervous...based on my history and symptoms he seems pretty confident that insulin resistance is going to be the big culprit, but I’m really nervous that there’s something big and scary hiding in there, haha.  My hysteroscopy and HSG are scheduled for Tuesday morning and I’m really really nervous about them...any advice?  They gave me Rx for one pill each of Xanax, Hydrocodone, and Phener-whatever, for nausea, to take when I get to the office, I’m guessing those will have me feeling pretty good for the procedures, haha.  I had a big blood draw on CD3 so I’m anxious to get those results, and then I just have to do the 3 hour glucose test (yuck) and that should give us a pretty good picture.  I’ve been feeling really emotional about all of this (go figure) because I just wish that my doctor had suggested these tests two years ago...grr.  Anyway, better late than never I guess!  (That’s my rant, haha)

  • @BWhitta  Gotcha. I was awake with only a local anesthetic for the HSG (yes, a shot, down there, I was like you're gonna do WHAT?? but it was honestly fine).  RE was still getting used to the unusual curve of my cervix and position of my uterus at that point, so we had to essentially do it twice.  But even with that, it was totally manageable.  I took the ibuprofen before as they suggested and had minimal cramping afterward, and bled lightly off and on for about 4 days.

My hysteroscopy was accompanied by a d&c so that's prob why I was under general anesthesia.  The recovery I had from that was really similar, some cramping afterward, bled for 4 days.  The general anesthesia kinda knocked me out for 48 hrs (just felt loopy) but it sounds like you won't have to deal with that.

Good luck and let us know how it all goes.  Glad you are getting this testing done, better late than never.  Hoping your findings are conclusive and it gets you on the right path.

  • @hoffmanr7 haha, I know, it’s good timing though bc this is my really slow season, (I’m a photographer) so I’m just using it as an excuse to be really lazy...I mean “relax and stay calm” haha.

  • @hoffmanr7 No, I have not read any books on it yet.  I spoke to several past clients of the agency we're considering about their experience, and I spoke with some friends who have adopted.  As part of the homestudy we will have to read several books, but IDK which ones yet.

Also, our house sold.  We had 28 showings and 5 offers on the first day--very exciting, but I get mega-stressed-out over "big day" things.  Even if it's good stuff, I'll still get myself all worked up.  So I've been waking up at 3am every night for the last 5 nights for various reasons, and then staying awake due to stress.  We're back in our house now, but now we've got to do the inspections.  Here's hoping I can relax a little bit in the coming weeks.   :#

  • @bwhitta an RE switch can be the best thing in the world.  When we went through treatments in 2012 the RE was not right for us.  The clinic we're working with this time around has been so much more thorough, compasionate and colaborative.  Hope this new RE is a great experience for you that lets to regain a tiny bit of control in this process.  As for the HSG it wasn't a huge deal for me, a little cramping but nothing like the horror stories I hear.  Like so much of this I'm sure it's different for everyone.

@soehlerk congrats on selling the house!

@Kim41313 Yay for a good report!

AFM:  We'll be triggering tonight for a Wednesday egg retrieval.  I'm waiting for the phone to ring to give me timing.  I've got 18 in the running, most a 17-18 with a few stragglers back to 14 and one over achiever at 19.  I have the whole week off from work so I'm just relaxing at home this week and being super lazy.

  • @ChristenMA83 it has been crazy how much better this RE is, there are really two “main” RE’s in our area and we just happened to pick one, I of course now wish we had picked the other but just thankful we’re here now!  I’m pretty nervous about tomorrow but I know it’s worse in my head, I tend to get worked up haha!  Have my FX for you for Wednesday!!!!!!

  • Alright, HSG was definitely worse than Hysteroscopy, but nothing crazy!  Everything looks good, my tubes were clear but my ovaries are asymmetrical, one was bigger and higher than the other but she said that’s not a big deal?  So I guess it was all good news!!!  Very relieved, glucose test in the morning and then an ultrasound on Friday for a follicle count, haha.  Almost out of these tests!!!!
