Still not sleeping through the night !!

My DS is still waking 1 to 3 times a night. We have a pretty set bedtime routine, and he goes to bed around 8pm each night. He's big enough to not need to feed at each waking (and my supply is close to nothing now). We have started putting him down awake, he'll cry for no more than 10 minutes before he's asleep.
What can we do to help him learn to get back to sleep, or stay asleep through the night?

I don't know if there's anything you can really do. My DS also wakes throughout the night still. He has never slept through the entire night and gets up at least 2 or 3 times a night (to eat) between 10 pm and 7 am. When he starts to stir or if he starts crying, I offer him his pacifier and see if he'll go back to sleep. Sometimes he does, (but will wake to eat within an hour or two) and sometimes he spits it out and continues to fuss. When he does that, I always feed him. He always eats about twice (sometimes more!) during the night, but he will go back to bed easily. If your supply is drying up, maybe he's waking because he's not getting enough and you could supplement with formula, or maybe he's just one of the babies not ready to go all night without eating?

  • Does he use a pacifier? Senna would wake up when she lost it in the middle of the night. So after she fell asleep I would put 4 or 5 pacifiers in her crib around her so she could always find one when she needed it. Worked like a charm and she's been sleeping 12-14 hours straight for about a month!
  • My LO will be 10 months on Saturday and she still wakes up 2-3 times a night. She has never slept through the night. Sometimes just a pacifier will work and other times she wants to eat. I just figured this is how it will be for a while and accepted it lol. Sorry this isn’t the answer you were looking for!
  • My LO doesn't sleep through the night either. The longest stretch she has ever done is 6 hours but she wakes 1- times a night to eat still too. Sometimes the stirring is just what her Dr called "sleep fussing" and she isn't actually awake and needing something. I know the difference because if I hear her stir or start fussing and I lightly say SHHH and rub her back she quiets down if she isn't hungry, but she will continue to fuss if she needs her bottle
  • I meant she wakes 1-2 times to eat at night, sometimes 3

  • Mine has slept through the night exactly once in the last 9 months, so you're not alone. He wakes up 1-2 times / night to eat. Usually we put him down around 7:30, and then he almost always wakes up around midnight, but will sometimes go back to sleep without eating. But then he wakes up by 2 to eat, and then usually wakes up again around 5:30.

This is our third, and the first two never really slept through the night either - not until they were like 2!

  • My babe is just 10 days shy of her bday...and she still doesn't sleep through the night. On a good night, she wakes 1-2 times for a diaper change and her sippy cup and will sleep approx 6-7 hours straight. On a rough night when she is teething or going through a developmental jump, she wakes every 1-3 hours. The past few nights have been hard, she is fighting going to sleep and just wants to play all night long, and once she falls asleep she has woken up 3-5 times so I have had alot of snuggling and sleeplessness the past few days. I definatly don't mind the snuggle times. I have a feeling this weeks sleep troubles are due to her beginning walking
  • Mine is 13 months now and she still does not sleep consistently through the night. Some nights she will, but other nights she wakes up multiple times. We just transitioned from cosleeping to her crib so I’m not sure if that has an impact. I have noticed that when she falls asleep in her crib she sleeps longer and is able to self soothe better vs. falling asleep elsewhere and going to crib already asleep.
