Bed rest ... maybe

Hey guys, so I was on the go all weekend and Sunday night had some light bleeding and what looked like a bit of losing my mucus plug. They had me go in Monday morning for a check and my cervix was closed but I was having pretty regular contractions. My OB sent me home and said to spend the day in bed drinking water and napping and monitoring the contractions to see if they would stop. They stayed about 10 minutes apart lasting for 1 minute all day. As instructed I called and gave her the update and she said to stay in bed doing the same thing and to keep her posted in the morning unless something accelerated, in which case to call sooner. Everything stayed the same so I called and left the update with the nurse this morning, but I haven't heard back yet. I don't know what she's going to say, but I am starting to get stressed out about this play it by ear situation. Mostly because my work is asking if I'm being put on bed rest and for now I've just been saying I am on bed rest at the moment until we have more clarity. But I think they are starting to lose patience with that explanation and I sort of need to know if I should be canceling things that are coming up this week. Sorry for the long, aw post. I guess my question is more of those of you who have been on bed rest before, do they usually do it in such piecemeal chunks or at some point do you get a longer-term prescription for bed rest?

  • If you weren't so far along then I bet they would give you more strict guidelines.  We are just to the stage that they want these babies to stay in a little longer, but if labor start they probably wouldn't stop.  It is frustrating, but unfortunately common at this stage.  Maybe just explain to your OB your work situation and ask for how long you can expect to be playing it by ear.

  • No advice or experience, but sorry you're going through that! It does sound stressful and frustrating not having a solid plan forward.
  • @mintea if work calls you again before OB does just tell them yeah I'm on bedrest so they can do whatever they need to. Like @kiki75 said your OB office will most definitely give you whatever you need to cover you!  <3<3 to you and the LO!

  • @mintea so scary. I think @kiki75 gave the best advice. Hopefully everything calms down and baby cooks a little longer. How far along are you now? Enjoy your three days of Netflix and chill and remind YH that this is kind of like practice for a newborn except you both still get sleep.
  • Thanks @mdfarmchick! I am 32+2. The baby is a giant though because I have sort of poorly controlled gestational diabetes. He was measuring 36 weeks on Friday. They referred me to the high risk doctor to talk about insulin but they couldn't fit me in until next Wednesday. I am really looking forward to visiting the perinatologist though because I've heard they spend a little bit more time looking at your case comprehensively. I love, love, love my obstetrician but they just seem so incredibly busy and I don't really feel like they're able to take the time to think through all the factors and considerations.
