So my confession is that I am not going to 100% listen to pregnancy 'rules'. They say you can't eat deli meat because of listeria? You know what causes the most listeria in the US? Salad greens- lettuce, spinach etc... and you don't hear them telling pregnant women not to have a salad. Now I am not going to get a deli sandwich from a grimy place, and I am not going to eat them all the time, but if I want a ham sandwich once and a while, I am gonna eat a damn ham sandwhich. Same with meat- I am not going to eat a well done steak- I wont do it. I will skip my normal rare steaks and go with medium, but I wont do a well done steak.
@kiwi2628 Ditto! When I was pregnant with DD my doctor told me the deli meat thing was a bunch of ridiculousness. At that time it was right after the Blue Bunny ice cream listeria outbreak and she said I'm not going to tell you not to eat ice cream or spinach so why would I tell you not to eat deli meat.
I know that in reality, there are minimal risks with an indoor cat's litterbox and toxoplasmosis if you wear gloves etc, but I told H I wasn't allowed to go near it. I'm planning on keeping that going as long as I can, I really hate cleaning it
@kiwi2628, I completely agree... I've already had Jimmy John's. And there's no way I'm chewing on a hockey puck. There's no point eating steak if you're going to char it to death.
My FFC, we're team green so have to come up with an androgynous nickname for this little one. Years ago, we were joking around and came up with Jedi for reasons completely unrelated to Star Wars. I'm totally using it because this LGB is already kicking ass. The confession? I've never once seen a Star Wars movie.
Also, I'm super excited that I can finally buy/wear maternity clothes and not feel like a lunatic or like I'm jinxing myself.
@elro0815 haha I told my H I wasn't even allowed near it while TTC, and since TTC took us almost 2 years and we are gonna jump right into #2 after this one because of our problems, I am basically never cleaning litter again!
I’m secretly happy about being away from family when I have this baby. Less opportunity to hear unsolicited advice. And more snuggle time for just me and the babe.
I understand that I might feel differently as due date approaches haha
Add me to team taking the rules with a grain of salt. H and I just had the conversation about listeria, since there was recently an outbreak from romaine lettuce. I love prosciutto and don’t want to give it up.
@pebbledam I’m also already so excited about maternity pants - I’ve been browsing online as well and can’t wait until I can justify buying them.
So I'm not a big drinker by any means, but I do love a beer once in a while...especially in the summer. With this pregnancy we'll be showing by the summer, no way I'll be able to sneak a sip of my husband's beer without turning some heads!! Confession: I definitely took a sip a few times with DS. Just a sip I swear!
Just had my first lunch today - a super indulgent Mac and cheese with bacon! This wouldn’t be so bad except for I’m supposed to meet my friend for lunch in a couple of hours - I guess I will just have to eat again
@kiwi2628 I was thinking the same thing. The last few listeria concerns I've heard have been about salads, I don't think I've heard any on lunch meat lately!
@kiwi2628@KFrob@pebbledam@zwink1 sorry if I missed anyone... If you enjoy reading check out the book Expecting Better she goes over the research she did on all the pregnancy rules and which ones you really should listen to and whole ones you need to make your opinion based on the studies and findings. I found it super interesting and gave me some knowledge to make educated decisions! I listened to the audio book from the library.
