I found this really cute train onesie that I think we are going to bring him home in! I don't think it's less exciting - the little teeny baby clothes are all so adorable to me anyway. We were team green with DS and brought him home in a dinosaur onesie. This time I am remembering to bring a newborn outfit and a 0-3. DS skipped newborn size clothes.
With DD I spent a lot of time picking a dress to bring her home in—and then ended up bringing her home in a white side snap shirt and cotton pants. I was just too stressed in the hospital to dress her up. This time I’ll probably plan on the same.
I had picked out a full one-peice outfit but had to change that up. During the hospital tour and childbirth class, the nurse said they take off a tracker after we put them in the car seat. So basically, I would have to take the baby out of the car seat and unzip his whole outfit to take that off his foot. I picked out a onesie and non-footie pants instead. @peppersmith22 that's a great point about the sizes! I'll throw in another set in a larger size just in case.
A friend made a onesie for us for DD and that was her going home outfit we still have it and will use it for DS. It is new born size so like with DD I'll bring an extra outfit just in case it doesn't fit but I'll at least get a picture of him in it.
Last time I spent so much time looking for the perfect outfit. Although he was early term (37w) DS was a tiny peanut at 5lbs10 when we brought him home so he wore a preemie outfit MIL went to pick for him after he was born because nothing was fitting! This time, just bringing a bunch of outfits and will see. Honestly, I feel this is something that really doesn’t matter the second time around Also, why would it be less exciting for team blue?? I absolutely love boy clothes!
last time i didn't really pick anything out because my mom gave me what i came home in.. which was way too big and stretched out but i felt obligated to use it. so this time i think i want to pick SOMETHING out i like. though, yeah it doesn't really matter. and people get more excited about girls clothes than boys clothes i think ( even though i have a girl and usually get her boys clothes because i think they are more fun).
I probably will just pick the cutest/most convenient of whatever clothes we have by then. I'm honestly not too concerned.
A couple of good points have been raised (no footie jammies, bring NB and 0-3 sizes) which to me are more important than the "cute" factor. I'd also add that gowns are harder to buckle into a carseat than pants/one-pieces are, at least in my opinion, so I'll definitely be bringing something I can work the buckle around.
I could have sworn little one had footie pjs on under that stupid gown last time! (we took the gown off for pjs but will keep the no footie rule in mind for next time!
I'll probably just bring him home in the sleeper I bought that says "Little Brother" b/c I know the older kids will like it. I never put that much thought into coming home outfits.
I think the ones that snap (or in the case of pajamas zip) on the front are so much easier to get a tiny newborn into! Even after several kids when they’re brand new and so tiny I’m worried i’m going to break them. (Plus, easier on and off for bodily explosion issues.) But I agree with @fancybelmont, it isn’t something I give a lot of thought to other than practical concerns.

Last time I just picked my favorite outfit from my baby showers. People give you so many clothes. This time we are team green so I found some cute green and gray jammies that LO will come home it. The set came with a matching bandana which I think leans on the boy side, so I am going to make a bow in case its a girl.
We picked out a really sweet outfit for DD1 to come home in. It was 0-3 because we thought she would be huge but it was way big on her. I was going to reuse it for tradition sake but DD wanted to get matching outfits so we picked these

ahhh I haven’t even thought of this! I’m team green but I think I will probably just pick whatever is cutest from what we have at the time. I did buy a baby bird onesie and then we have mama and papa bird t shirts.....But preferably I’ll pick something with snaps in the front bc I am hella nervous of the tiny little being that will soon be here!
I was thinking a sleeper but reading about no footie sleepers is really helpful. I didn't even think about that! Will probably just use whatever is easiest and cutest we have by then. Probably a onsie and some little pants, bringing both NB and 0 to 3 months just in case. Obviously it is a big day but the actual getting to take her home means more to me than what she is wearing that day.
My hospital also takes off the trackers when we do the discharge paperwork they have one attatched to the umbilical cord and another on the ankle. Their policy is to walk the baby out in the carseat to the car themselves so they can monitor that the baby successfully leaves the hospital. I would check with your hospitals on that policy!
A cousin had her friend make us onesies that say "I'm proof God answers prayers" - we might do those, unless we get something else super cute. Definitely will get newborn pix in those onesies!
I would definitely check on hospital discharge policy. With DD they came in and checked her in her seat, then checked the base in the car. With DS (different hospital) they offered the base install check at our l&d class, they never really checked him in the carseat. If I deliver at that hospital again I wouldn't have to worry, but if I have to deliver at the bigger hospital then I will need those details!
These are all so cuuuute!! @mikkimikey Your DH has good taste, I am obsessed with owls!
We are keeping baby's name a secret until after he is born, so we're going to use the coming home outfit as our way of "announcing" his name. I have my eye on this one right now (different name though).
I'm planning on having my daughter at home, so I'm just keeping it simple with a sleep suit and a just a short sleeved baby grow underneath. She is my third baby so probably the same sort of thing if I have her in hospital. It gets too stressful for me to dress a baby up in different layers.
klburke88 I WANT THAT. edited to ask if you're ordering from etsy? I love that so much lol
I just brought my DD home in a cute NB outfit I found at target, but its going to be colder this time so thinking a sleeper...or copying Klburke cause its SO CUTE.
I think its an Italian superstition that you have to bring your baby home in white. I'm not much into superstitions, but there are people in my family who insist so I think Ill just go with this.

@beach_mama love that!
@sjn00 I thought the same. Guess I didn't think about this at all...oops
I need to pick an outfit. I had a "hello world" one on my registry list, but removed it when I took almost all the clothing off.
Who am I to interfere?!
