I didn't see this started yet, so I'm jumping in. I've been avoiding the WTO/TWW threads since I have no idea what is going on with my cycle, but I'm eager to participate again, so here we go!
What's everyone up to this week? Has anyone watched The Resident on Fox? It is only a couple episodes in, but I have high hopes. I have a major crush on Matt Czuchry.
@acciocoffee I started that, but didn't get too far into it. I'll have to try again! @kristah2 Same! I ate my lunch at like 10:30 a.m. today. Fail. I loved Matt in Gilmore Girls, so I was pretty excited to see him in The Resident.
@kristah2 I am the opposite today. I need to eat real food, especially since my cycles are all screwed up from not eating / losing too much weight too quickly.
@krissy2241 It's been a great distraction during the TWW. Where do you watch The Resident? We only have Netflix and I don't think I've seen it on there. Anyone have Netflix show recommendations for me? I have one more season on Reign then I will need a new one.
I will also be a +1 to loving Matt in GG. I was 100% team Logan.
@acciocoffee What sort of shows do you like? Shameless is fun to watch and SOOO much crazy drama. I've been watching Travelers and thoroughly enjoying it, H doesn't like it as much though. Stranger Things is great if you haven't seen it yet. The Good Place was fun to watch and very light hearted. Same with Fuller House, very cheesy. Although they get into some infertility stuff in the 2nd season that made me want to throw things at the TV. Hmm... I can continue if you'd like

@acciocoffee what type of show are you into? I've binged a lot of netflix. Especially before we decided to get cable again. I liked: Shameless, Revenge, Jane the Virgin, The Ranch, Pretty Little Liars, Criminal Minds, Suits, White Collar, The Good Place, Mindy Project.. there are more my brain just isn't working because I can basically only think about food.
@lurvleybunchococonuts I LOVED The Good Place. I don't particularly love gory shows or political shows. I usually stay away from crime shows unless they are like Psych which is one of my favorite shows. I'll take all the recommendations you can come up with! I think DH just started watching Travelers, but I have no idea what it's even about.
@acciocoffee I watch it on Hulu. I think Netflix has some great shows out lately -- I loved Peaky Blinders. It isn't a Netflix Original, but you can watch it on there. And another recommendation for Shameless. I love that show.
@sassysweetiepie It's about a medical residency student. So far it has just covered his first couple days and some drama/unethical behavior from the higher-ups. I think it could be the Grey's Anatomy...
I will have to look at all of these shows when I get home!
Has anyone on here used that charcoal teeth whitening stuff? My teeth struggle to whiten with the chemicals, so I'm hoping this might be a good solution. I usually just get white spots. It's super annoying.
@krissy2241 I Peaky Blinders!! I just binge watched (for the third time) the first three seasons to get ready for the new one. Waiting on MH to decide he's ready to watch it!
For any sci fi fans, check out Electric Dreams on Amazon. It's similar to Black Mirror, but each episode is based on a Phillip K. Dick short story. Extremely well done and worth watching. Also, if anyone hasn't seen American Gods yet (on Stars), GO WATCH IT NOW!!
@acciocoffee I've used it and it totally works. I have the charcoal and the charcoal tooth paste. I don't use it all the time, but when I do, it's really effective
I'm sorry I haven't been around much the last couple of days. I needed a little bit of a break from the boards after AF popped up three days early and the crappy news from the RE.
@darkstar42 I'll check Electric Dreams out once we get Prime back. We had to cancel it briefly because we forgot the payment was coming up and didn't have it budgeted.
@darkstar42 I haven't heard of Elecric Dreams. We need a new show to watch, so thank you! I've been wondering about American Gods too. I read the book and really liked it. @dreamscapes_ So sorry AF showed up for you I'm happy to see you back though!

@darkstar42 I want to see American Gods so bad but we don't have stars! And my husband is dying to watch electric dreams. Have you watched Man in the High Castle yet? Soooo good. + 1 Team Logan alllll day.
We love electric dreams, maybe not as much as Black Mirror, but still good. It reminds me of Twilight Zone.
I just finished the Toys that Made Us, it was really fun. Some of those you creators were hilarious. The He-Man one was full of funny dudes. All full of nostalgia, and background business dealings.
@krissy2241 I started watching the Resident! I was hesitant at first because the trailer made it seem really weird and stupid. But I'm really glad that it looks like a good show so far! Ive been major into medical dramas lately. I just finished the seasons that are available of Night Shift. And I'm also watching Chicago Med every week (which is my favorite so far!)
Also for anyone wanting show recommendations ( @acciocoffee ) on Netflix I've really been into those futuristic sci fi stuff. Black Mirror, 3%, Colony (hubby and I just watched the pilot, but so far it seems interesting!). Umm...can't remember anymore right now. I'll check back in after I looked at my watched shows. Lol
I saw colony, we were thinking of starting it. My husband is a big fan of Gotham. We both loved the great British Bake off, and just started Zumbo's just desserts which is trippy.
I'd love to see American God's, enjoyed the book!
My husband dragged me to a d&d thing, but I don't have a character and have never played. So kind of a time to peruse forums.
+1 to team Logan, that boy was dreamy! @acciocoffee I use the charcoal toothpaste and a whitening mouthwash and I think that it’s working but I can’t really tell, I’m gonna start doing teeth whitening strips for like a week and the toothpaste and see how that goes.
Does anyone use and get on with the Bump app? I’ve got it but i don’t get notifications or see what people have written on so I just always end up going through the website on my phone
@CraftyG you don't really get notifications on TB app unless you already have it opened when someone tags you.

@acciocoffee If you have random super white spots on your teeth, my orthodontist told me those come from a lack of fluoride. Whitening won't get rid of them. So maybe try finding a toothpaste with a higher percentage of fluoride? I also have had success with letting normal toothpaste sit on my teeth for about thirty seconds before brushing, and avoiding rinsing after brushing.
So today was weigh-in day and I GAINED 3 pounds. WTAF What is going on?! I am STARVING and I GAINED WEIGHT??? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!!!!
I deprive myself of chocolate cake, beer, wine, steak, candy, ice cream, and everything that makes life worth living and I GAIN WEIGHT!!!!!!!!!! I am so mad. I went to bed hungry last night because I knew weigh-in day was today and I fell asleep fantasizing about all the foods I can't eat myself sick on anymore and then I step on the scale and see that number swing in the opposite direction it's supposed to go. Days like this I want to just give up. Seems like I will never lose weight no matter how hard I try. Pro tip: never, ever, ever let yourself get fat because losing weight is the worst.
Why go hungry if I'm just going to be eternally obese no matter what I eat? Sure, cut the fat, cut the carbs, cut the sugar, stay within the points and STILL GET FATTER.
Okay, deep breath. I think what happened is I ate veggie stir fry for dinner with copious amounts of soy sauce so surely that was water retention. SURELY. Christ, if it's not, I may rethink dieting altogether and just live my life fat and happy.
@wishiwaspreggo ah man, I'm sorry. That is so frustrating and so hard to relate to unless you've been through it. I finally lost weight, but it took me changes jobs (reducing my stress) for it to actually happen. I have no real advice, but hopefully your lifestyle changes catch up soon and you start seeing results. It sounds like you are working really hard -- good job!
@wishiwaspreggo are you exercising as well? If so that could be why the weight gain. Generally the first few weeks of a new diet and exercise program you will see a slight increase on the scale for a couple of reasons: 1. Your body is regulating to the new (less) amount of food eaten. It will store foods as it's getting used to the limited number of calories. It'll also retain water. Good news though - it's not storing fat as such so as it regulates you should see a drop in the scale then. 2. If you're working out for the first time in a while there could be 2 explanations depending on what you're doing. a. if you're doing weights you will actually gain muscle first. This is good because you NEED muscle to burn fat. It will cause an increase on the scale as your gain it but you will actually lose inches because you would be toning and then having all the tools you need to burn fat. b. if you're just doing cardio you are probably burning muscle first. When you do say an hour of cardio, you first burn extra calorie, then you actually burn muscle, then fat. So it's possible you're not doing enough cardio to burn whatever extra you're looking to shed.
I highly suggest taking measurements if you want to track your difference. OR don't step on the scale at all for the first 4 weeks. Just go by how your clothes are feeling. This will give you a real, less discouraging idea of how you are doing.
@wishiwaspreggo *hugs* I'm sorry your weigh-in didn't go better I understand the frustration and feelings of wanting to give up. I try my best not to focus on the numbers but on making healthier choices and habits. Eating less, eating healthier, and moving more. I'm still fat, I probably always will be, but at least I'm making smarter choices and if I eventually lose weight as a result, that's an added bonus. Might be a terrible/wrong way to look at it, but if I focus on the "number" than historically I've ended up giving up each time.

@wishiwaspreggo - I'm really sorry about the weight gain. I feel like I eat healthy and with good portions, limit drinking and I still gain weight. Some days it feels impossible to lose but I think @kristah2 had good advice and it's stuff I've heard too. I know it's super hard though and really frustrating. Why! Why does losing weight have to be so difficult?
Thanks, y'all. I haven't been exercising because I'm still recovering from the flu. If I increase my heart rate even slightly it's like my lungs fill with puss and I can't breathe and end up coughing so hard I pee myself. Exercise right now is out of the question, at least until the cough clears away. Usually takes a good (awful?) 2-3 weeks, sometimes longer depending on the severity. I miss exercising - I generally enjoy it and plan to get back to it next month sometime (hopefully!!)
And yes, I should focus less on the number on the scale. It sucks because in addition to being chunky I'm also tall. That means when I DO lose weight, it's impossible to tell in my clothing for weeks (if not months) because the slow burn peels away millimeters at a time all over my body. It's a double-edged sword. No one can tell I gain weight (and subsequently, neither can I) for a long time as well. So even if my weight is fluctuating by 10-20 pounds it doesn't show in my clothes. Not until it's about a 25 pound difference. That's when my size changes.
Anyway... I won't give up. My first Weight Watchers work meeting is tomorrow and it's a free benefit so I'll stick with it the full 12 weeks. I'm glad I'm doing the meetings. Really helps with accountability.
Well, regardless of what the scale says it improves my health to eat less crap and eat more fruits & veggies so... there's that. But it sure would be nice if this effort ALSO resulted in smaller clothes and a lighter frame. It's remarkable how much easier you move and how much more energy you have when you don't have an enormous layer of fat under your skin.
@wishiwaspreggo Sorry for the obnoxious scale! I'm having a hard time with weight loss as well. I'm also tall, and you're right that its frustrating to see changes show up so slowly. I've heard losing pounds described as unrolling sheets from a roll of paper towels. When the roll is full, you can't really tell a difference if you take off a couple of sheets. When you're down to the end of the roll, every sheet makes a big difference in how the roll looks.
@wishiwaspreggo apparently you need to hang out with my husband. I don't know HOW he does it, but he angles the scale juuuuuust so, and it reads like 50lbs lighter. Almost gave me a heart attack the other day because I am supposed to be *controlling* my weight loss to get my period back / on a schedule, and I had lost exponential weight. I kicked it back to the middle of the floor and I was back to normal. I keep telling him that doesn't count. Major side eye to my H. It sounds like you are making real changes though for a healthier you (not just tricking the scale!) and that is going to serve you better at the end of the day than any number on the scale. Hope you are feeling better from the flu! Its awful this year.

Update: water weight from stir fry is real. I checked the scale this morning and lost 5 pounds overnight (so that means a 2 pound loss this week - hooray!!!). I should've known because when I get PMS I avoid the scale from sore boobs until last blood because I WILL be 5 pounds heavier through the duration. I retain water like crazy. So - yay!!! Weight Watchers for the win
ETA: @darkstar42 - that's an awesome analogy! Shit, I lost 50 pounds and hardly anyone noticed :P My family did but no one else commented on it. I'm hoping the next 50 people will notice. I'd rather enjoy life and be a bit on the pudgy side. @wishiwaspreggo I'm usually hesitant to ask people if they lost weight because I am worried they will think I'm saying they were needing to lose weight. So people might notice, but they might not want to say anything.
