BF: DH is home sick today. I think I’m catching it and possibly DS. I’m so bored and exhausted and sick of sickness and being stuck inside. Pity party for 1, please.
@ladygali Ugh, I'm sorry! I hope your whole house feels better soon!
Mine is the annoying co-worker that wants to have an hour long conversation like the second I walk in the door. Dude - I haven't had coffee yet, let me at least take my coat off and put all my crap down. I just can't people today.
@ladygali +1 to sickness. Hopefully you guys get past the bug and get on the mend.
My MBF is also at sickness, but lumping H in as well. L has been sick for a couple days with a wet cough. Now it’s a dry cough but he has a fever for just over 30hrs now. H being the ‘try and reason it out’ person, ‘why don’t you take a day to take him in. You get paid for your sick days, Miss Teacher Lady.’ Well yes I do, but I have no sub plans and am taking a day tomorrow for the MFM. YOU take today even though you are hourly.
ETA: clarity. It’s not yet 8 on a Monday.

@princesslockness - I HATE the who's taking the day off battle! I'm thinking of you this week - I have everything crossed that you get good news tomorrow! Hugs!
UGH. DS2 is sick (awaiting flu swab results) so I was going to take the day off but remembered I have 3 interviews for our open positions today so I came into work. The first interview didn't show up and the third interview called and cancelled. If I'd have known this ahead of time I would have rescheduled the one interview and spent the day with my sick boy! I work an hour from home so now that I'm here it seems silly to turn around and go back when I know he's already taken care of by my mom.
A silly bitchfest- DH and I were watching 'Law and Order' last night (why is it so addictive?!?) and he insisted on showing me the clip from 'Ted 2' where they make their own lyrics to the theme song. Now that's stuck in my head and it's super hard to teach math with that playing in the back of your head.

DH sings that every time the theme plays!

Every little thing that Ds does today is making me want to scream. Absolutely NO patience today. Also frustrated with DH because he’s all mad I’m opening up a bank account for my direct deposit. I’m the kind of person that likes to have different bank accounts for different things so I can separate my money for different uses and he’s the kind of person that wants just one account. I haven’t had an account or even access to money in years - stfu about me opening my own account.
@cthulu Not cool!! If its your money, why does he get a say? I mean H and I both combine to cover $ to cover the bills, but we started with separate accounts and lived just fine.
@mrsbubbles-2 Thanks!! I'm starting to freakout about it. Last time I saw this practice it started as 'no big deal, just extra monitoring' and ended with a emergency cerclage and a 4 day hospital stay. I'm hoping it stays 'nothing we can do yet. I really don't want to be trapped in a hospital again unexpectedly.

@princesslockness we had separate accounts and joint accounts since we got married but after I stopped working I closed my accounts and he never added me onto his account. I’m kind of looking forward to having my own account again even though it’s going to be mostly for bills lol
I kind of hate the coworker I have to work the closest with. She always takes the opposite view, even if it doesn't makes sense. Argues about everything, and is a know it all. A few of the people we eat lunch with don't like her either for the same reasons, but we're stuck with her.
I teach a 3-hour seminar every Tuesday and I hate it. This is the third year I've taught it and hopefully my last. I am seriously procrastinating prepping for it because I just find it sooooooo boring. It's a research methods class, btw. snooooozzzzzeeeee
Been 10 days since DNA testing. Finally called. They said I did it on a Friday. So. It may have not gone out until Monday. I should wait a couple more days. Just frustrating. I need to know baby is healthy.

Ok update on my bitchfest. I am cancelling the bitch part of it! My first interview wound up just being late because he couldn't find us. However he was dressed to the nines and I really liked him. My second candidate was on time and blew his interview out of the water. I've already called both and offered the positions and they've both accepted! It's about damn time I get some people up in here, we've been short staffed for months.
I have another bitchfest. I tried to type out the story but it just ends up being too long so long story short people are just so dumb and I can’t stand when customer service reps treat you like an idiot when they’re the ones that aren’t answering the question you’ve asked 20 times and they just keep spewing the same nonsense and not actually answering the question. Holy run on sentence lol.
One of my coworkers who I really dislike was nasty to me this afternoon, and I almost started tearing up (thanks, hormones). Then I pulled it together and was like 'No, she can go fuck herself.' She's a shitty teacher and is jealous of anyone who makes even the slightest effort. Sorry that I actually care about my job.

My bitch is totally a first world problem. But whatever. I’m annoyed cause our kitchen remodel is pushed out a few days. I was really hoping to do the damn cabinets that were so f*cking expensive!
Also, I’m sick and tired. Can’t wait for the all day sickness to be over.

Preach. We are finishing our basement. The hard part is done. Framed. Wired. Plumbed. HVAC in. Drywall up. Taped. It’s easy now. Amirite? No. Contractors flaking. I’m about to lose my sheeeet. Tired of living in a construction zone.
2nd BF today. Roofers and whoever scheduled them. We have 4 weeks left in our trimester and have had roofers over all of my end of the building for 3 days of class. My principal said he thinks they have a week left. They have been blasting mexican music all day, and now are puttign something with some strong fumes on. Which is giving everyone headaches, and I'm not sure its safe for pregnant women. How big of a PITA is it going to be if its not safe for pregnant women?

We're in the middle of getting our entire house painted, which has been 5 years in the making. The entire first floor is covered in paper and plastic while they work on prepping everything. We own a historic house, so everything takes longer and is expensive AF.
@dirtanddiamonds I’m sorry they are flaking, that’s tough. Luckily ours are pretty cumminicatative and the actually contractor is very nice and so is his crew. I just want a kitchen back! The market out here for contractors are insane. We moved in the house in june and finally started. It took forever to find someone good that wasn’t insane. I called multiple companies and they were a year out or didn’t take jobs under $80k the Portland housing market is insane.
second bitch: there’s something in my right eye or i scratched it and it’s been bothering me all day.
We're having hardwood floors put in downstairs before baby comes, and just went to select which laminate we want. I wish there was someone who wasn't trying to sell me something to give me advice on what to get! There is a huge price range, and I don't know what makes the more expensive laminate worth it. I'm hesitant to believe the guy who stands to make a profit on upselling me. Hopefully we can have the floor guy come in to install while we are on vacation so I don't have to live in a construction zone.

@derbysquirrel do some research on line but the higher quality vinyl wood floors are worth it, they hold up better etc. Some engineered hardwood is amazing too and a fraction of true hardwood cost.
We had oak hand scrapped dark hardwoods put in our old house. Avoid those at all cost. Every single scratch showed. And oak is a tougher wood.
In our current place they did a quick flip and put in some cheap engineered hardwood, definitely not the best quality and I’d take some good quality vinyl over them. But they are lighter so the scratches don’t show as much.
If you have dogs you really need to get something that will hold up.
I guess this qualifies as a bitchfest. I’m contemplating a career change. I just defended my PhD in December and I’m ready for something new. Of course, there is the whole interviewing while pregnant thing so I’m hesitant. Would love to hear from others with experience with this. Bitching at myself bc I can’t make up my mind what I want to do.
@hfooter I know I want a light color, and not real wood. I have dark bamboo floors upstairs, and everything shows. It's awful. I love the dark color in theory, but living with it sucks in practice. We live in an alpine climate with zero humidity, so real woods crack and look bad quickly unless you get a specifically alpine wood. Laminate is everyone's suggestion for what holds up best, and we like a kind of honeyed hickory color for the downstairs. There is just such a range of options from there, and we are only going to live here for 5 years. I want to like it while we're here, and for it to hold up well enough to add value when we sell, but I don't necessarily need something fantastic with a 40 year lifespan.

We installed laminate when we bought our place and we LOVE it, it is super easy to clean up cat puke and it doesn’t scratch at all, we got a multicolored one that really looks like wood and doesn’t show dirt. It wasn’t cheap but I think it was totally worth it.

I’m a home builder by trade. (Manager/Super - not laborer), so feel free to ask away. But as someone else already mentioned, engineered is the way to go right now. Easy upkeep.
@mozartsmuse I didn’t do a career change, but interviewed in July with L. He was an early August baby, so fairly similar. As a teacher we are fairly family oriented as an industry, so it wasn’t bad. I wore a super baggy shirt and said nothing until after I signed my contract. Then showed up with L into the next week. No one batted an eye.

@derbysquirrel Not sure if this is an option for you, but we had the wood-look tile put in most of our house and it has been awesome. I found a few chips in it here and there (we are HARD on floors) and I have literally "fixed" whatever chips I've found with a brown permanent marker. Can't see a thing. I have been pretty happy with them otherwise!
@Firemanswife11 I agree with you on the wood look tile, we just replaced all of our flooring with it and we love it. I’m from the east coast and love my real hard wood floors, but live in the southwest now so real wood floors are not a good idea out here. They have some patterns that are super believable, and are much easier to clean and maintain than hardwood!
