Pregnant with TWINS

Hey everyone! Just found out this past Thursday (01/04) that we are expecting TWINS. I’m certainly overwhelmed and not sure what to expect. I am 8 weeks 1 day along, have had ZERO morning sickness, and am feeling nervous about what is going on. Baby A has a heartbeat of 146, and baby B is running at 153. Any other moms have advice on what to expect, doctor visits, advice on baby accessories for twins, etc. Am I worrying too much about not having morning sickness, or should I just feel blessed? Looking forward to hearing from you all!

  • Also, please change your SN so that we can get to know you better.  You can do this on the knot, then log out and back in, and the new name will show up here.  Congratulations.
  • I really didn’t think it mattered where it was posted, but thanks for the heads up
  • I did the introduction, spreadsheet, and ultrasound thread. Where can I post this question appropriately?

I did the introduction, spreadsheet, and ultrasound thread. Where can I post this question appropriately?
Weekly Questions thread would be perfect.

ETA: Also, many ladies don’t get early US to tell if they are having multiples, so not many people will have advice yet.

  • Welcome! At some point there will probably also be a weekly thread for multiples, at least there has been on other BMBs that I have seen. I think we have one other mom with confirmed multiples so far, but I could be imagining that.

  • Hi!
ok so I get that this isn’t how you are meant to post, but I didn’t read the intros and was scanning the posts to see if there was anything about twins so I found it helpful to see this!
im 9 wks with twins too, found out at a dating scan when I was 6wks and was the shock of my life, but I think we are coming to terms with it now. We have a nearly 2y.o.daughter and only wanted 1 more kid, but are trying to get used to the idea of 2 more! How are you feeling? I think I have double the fatigue of my last pregnancy...
  • @chopsnoni

thank for for saying it was helpful! I did the same thing and when I didn’t see anything I create a post. It was definitely a shock for us as well. So many mixed emotions from being super excited, to nervous, and even some tears from being scared.

Honestly, I have had ZERO morning sickness, even to this day and I will be nine weeks tomorrow. As far as fatigue, I completely understand. I could literally sleep 22 hours a day lol. I feel like this pregnancy has me completely drained, but then again our bodies are now working for 3 as oppose to the Norma 2 with other pregnancies. I have been taking flinstone vitamins (2 per day as recommended by doctor) and a calcium pill (also doctor recommended) plus have been eating tons of fruits and veggies and it has been helping with the fatigue. While working, I’ve been drinking TONS of water, and even though it makes you have to pee every 20 mins, it has given me a little more of a boost. Good luck! We got this!
  • @simplystacia You might want to check to make sure that your Flintstone Vitamins have to the correct amounts needed to be a prenatal. Many vitamins don’t have all the things or the correct amounts to be a true ‘one pill’ vitamin, and with twins I would think it would be worth the double check. I know @lalala2004 is quite knowledgeable about them.

  • Hey there! Also having twins and I have a 15mo son. I had IVF/FET so I’ve known for awhile. Hope to see a MoM thread started soon as I’m also freaking out a bit.

  • Congrats on your twins ladies! I have 5 yearold quadruplets and a Singleton on the way :) there's lots of great books on multipes and communities on Facebook.
Look for local mom's of multiples groups, it's really helpful getting to meet seasoned twin mom's and having that community in person.  Having multiples is lots of work but also a blast! Congrats again mamas!

Quads, really? Wow!! That must be crazy and fun! Are they boys/girls...?

I appreciate the advice, and I did read the article. The amount of one prenatal is equivalent to the two flintstones I am taking per day per the article I read. I don’t feel that my doctor, who also delivered my first, would recommend I take something that isn’t going to be sufficient enough for the babies. I’m not able to take regular prenatals anyways, but the flintstones are just as fine to take as well. Again thank you and thanks for th article.
  • Hi all! I’m 7 weeks 4 days & also pregnant with twins! We did IVF so we have known for a little while! I’m glad to see a board and not have to sift through other comments that I can’t necessarily relate to! I’m with you ladies on symptoms! The fatigue is real, nothing else going on! Trying to soak that in! 2nd ultrasound is next Friday, the 19th!
  • I take Flintstones with extra iron. Two a day ILO a prenatal. This is my fourth and none of my doctors have ever been concerned. The folic acid, iron, and calcium are the biggies. And two flint stones are sufficient.

Much better than throwing up the prenatal. Which I always did with my first. To the point I lost quite a bit of weight.
  • @krenee124- thank you for the support in creating a thread! I was the same when trying to find a post about twins and had no luck. I’m glad that you found the post helpful, even though I was instantly told this wasn’t the place for it and I was barging into conversations. Besides fatigue, are you having any morning sickness?

@dirtanddiamonds- I agree with what you said. I think it’s much better to take something that will agree with you, than to throw up the prenatal and get nothing at all. I don’t think my doctor, who is very experienced, would recommend I take something that isn’t going to be sufficient enough for myself and both babies. That is also why my doctor recommended that I take a calcium with the vitamins to make sure the dosage was enough. Good luck with #4!

I have no input on the validity of Flintstone vitamins as i haven't had one since I was about 12, but a good trick if PNVs are making you queasy is to take them right before bed at night.  I've always done my vitamins at night, but for women on my previous BMBs this change made a massive difference in their ability to tolerate them.  The chewable ones are also generally easier on the stomach.

I've actually been on PNVs for almost 10 years now.  My OBGYN suggests that all women of child bearing age take PNVs instead of a regular multivitamin.  They have everything a regular multivitamin does, plus extra stuff that is good for you whether you're pregnant or not.  Target brand generic is no more expensive than a regular multi.  I don't know how much the chewable cost though as I've never taken them.

GL to all the twin moms, my sister just had twins and it looks pretty hard, I won't lie.  But it would be super after about the 6 month mark when they'd have each other to play with.
  • @simplystacia it works for me! And no.. I had one day of nausea and nothing since! I have been on progesterone since before my transfer which I know some doctors say the production of progesterone can cause nausea so maybe since my body has had this it’s not much different! Idk! We say the babies at 6 weeks 4 days and both had heartbeats! Friday will hopefully make me feel better!

As far as the vitamins, I have no comment on flint stone vitamins! I have to take my prenatal at night also bc in the am I was starting to get nauseous! I’ve also been on these for 1+ years tho so my body is used to this also!
  • The article mentions overdoing it on vitamin A whereas most prenatal contain 2000-5000 IU. The same as Flintstones (2000), so two Flintstones would still be on average or under a prenatal.

I can’t find any research relating to the livestrong article. There’s tons of search results with people asking the question.

Do do your own research and trust your doctor. That’s all anyone can do. :)
  • I totally trust my doctor and am very comfortable with the decisions we are making as far as the vitamins. I’m not going to feel wrong or shamed for my decisions.

@krenee124, please keep us updated! Can’t wait to hear what they tell you on Friday!
  • Anyone else expecting multiples?
  • @simplystacia. I am having twins as well!  I am glad a group was started.  I posted in the high risk group but no one responded!

I have had a lot of nausea and food aversions this time around but I also had it with my son who is now 2.5years old.

Do you know what kind of twins you are having?  I am having identical because there is only one placenta.  They couldn’t find 2 amniotic sacs at the 8 week ultrasound so I have my MFM U/S on Friday.  I have spent the whole weekend reading about mono mono twins and it’s overwhelming.
  • @chopsnoni,congrats on having twins!  How are you feeling?  We are kind of in the same boat.  I have a 2.5 year old and only planned on having 1 more as well but I am having twins!
