@alemarie1 I wish the CDC or FDA or whoever had pulled romaine lettuce off the shelves or had warned the general public about this. It’s been on-going since November 15th and I bought a bag of Italian blend lettuce yesterday at the grocery store. I had salad three hours ago for lunch. I guess there’s nothing I can do now but wait 3-10 days and pray that rinsing it before using it saves me grief and a hospital trip. Ugh.
@amb929, I agree, I wish they would release the suppliers name as well. Ive been eating romaine lettuce too, its so scary. Its sad that we're better off eating deli meat then veggies these days..
@alemarie1 I feel like it’s lne of those potential ticking time bomb things and now that I’ve already consumed it, it’s out of my control which makes me super anxious but I have to keep reminding myself I washed already washed lettuce and that’s all I can do to protect myself so it’s out of my control. I just pray it won’t come back to haunt me At least I can take some “comfort” in the fact that I’m not a child nor an elderly person and those are the highest risk groups for extreme illness. It really is sad that deli meat is presently safer. I generally don’t eat it unless it’s in some kind of a panini anyway but I had a weird Rueben sandwich craving a while back I guess I’ll go back to eating those haha

Box: I was told to avoid all bag lettuce/ salad as it's more of a breeding ground for any bacteria
@alemarie1 thanks for starting this thread! Also thanks for sharing this about the romaine lettuce - I had no idea and eat a lot of salad! Getting rid of it now!
Although thinking about it now.... I had a salad Tuesday, and have had at least two a week that definitely contained romaine for the last few months...
I just came back from the grocery store and the whole salad area is full of romaine lettuce. I was shocked since they’ve started doing news stories on it recently that people are going in and buying it none the wiser. I felt bad and told a woman who was getting some lettuce that she should probably reconsider. She thanked me and put it back. The early 20s grocery store stock guy gave me serious stink eye. Ohh well.
They can't release the supplier because they don't know where the contamination is coming from. The people who are in the hospital are from all over Canada and there is no clear source. So for now, no romaine unless cooked. Supposedly e. Coli can get inside the leaf (not sure how true that is). Hopefully anyone who had it is fine though.
