Re: This Is Us thread *SPOILER ALERT*

  • Gahhhh!! I feel like they should have left the last part out, cuz now it is kind of predictable what happened and how he died. I hope thats not the case though and they have some twists left up in their sleeves!
  • Loading the player...
  • Last episode I was crying when they showed the glimpse of the fire alarms with the batteries out because they forgot to get new batteries at the mall. But as soon as he wrote that note to Kevin and pet the dog I knew something was happening and just lost it. Makeup smeared snots everywhere...... I couldn’t stop crying after the show ended. This show is truly touching
  • @babyclarke429 They do such a good job at telling the whoe story and all the details! It truley makes an impact!!
  • I watched it yesterday.  After it was over I went to my recordings and added 3 hours to the one after the super bowl (just in case the game goes long).  My mind is racing with what happens and I'm sure it has to do with Kate's dog.

  • Yep.....ugly cried through that one.  I was so depressed going to bed last night I had to watch something funny to offset all the emotions.  lol

  • I just watched it and was sobbing uncontrollably at the end. Poor DS was so concerned, I had to snap out of it real quick. I have a feeling Jack goes back in for the dog becuase Kate is upset about it still being in the house. That's why she always says his death is her fault. But I hope I'm wrong because I'm not ready for Jack to die. I dont know how I am going to handle watching the next one!

Agree with this theory, though this show is so good at misdirection and throwing in unexpected twists that I don’t even know what to think! I’m also totally thrown off that the next episode is after the SuperBowl. I can’t emotionally process any of this.

  • I love this show even though it can be over the top. I feel like it's filling the void that I felt when Parenthood ended.

What I don't understand about this last episode is Randal's new "property company." Like, where did he get the funds to buy a building - out of his personal finances? Getting a loan, doing your due diligence, creating a company and buying commercial property takes a lot of time, but he was like, I'll just buy a building! And poof I did!  Secondly, where in the hell are your profits going to come from? I'm guessing he's not going to raise their rents or try to attract a higher-end market, but he's dumping money into improvements. Hah, maybe I'm just nitpicking because I do real estate for a living.
  • @frenchiekinplusone totally agree they are good at misdirection. I hope there's a twist, I don't want Jack to be burned up in a fire. It's so...harsh.

  • @mountainsmama that totally bothered me too about the apartment building! So many questions. I get that the drama is the focus of the show but like you can’t just own a building in a day. And like Kevin just randomly knows how to knock walls down and stuff?

Yeah, I have a feeling he dies elsewhere and not in the fire, I dont think they fully made it to bed yet. The flashback scene from earlier this season of the kids and Miguels house shows them all in their street clothes and upset, but not death of a parent upset, kate is mosy concerned about talking to Kevin, and I dont think she knows at that point that something more serious happened. Same with the mom (blanking on her name), when she is driving with Jacks stuff on the front seat of the car, she is obviously more upset at this time, but she is still in her steelers jersey.
Im wondering if Kate blames herself because they didnt get the batteries at the mall, so the smoke alarm wasnt working. Kate got upset trying on dresses and kind of fought with the mom to go home.
  • @sapphires-and-diamonds I thought the same thing! The dog has been prevalent in a lot of the flashbacks just after the death so it would make sense that they've been building up to it. Honestly, though, that feels a little bit cliche, like to make him die a hero like that.

This episode was so hard to watch, especially with the quick flashbacks to how all the things involved in the fire made up part of their lives (the dish towel, the kids' height charts, pictures, etc.). Saving the rest for next week makes me terrified of how brutal that one will be.

  • I am am not ready for this!!! “Absolute soul -crushing event” I think I’ll need to take the next day off from work. We have some people at work who watch this and one of the guys in my office who is a dad to a little girl was all teary about the show today. THis show is the definition of “the feels”

the dog dog definitely has a part in something. I am on the same page as maybe he went back for the dog and that’s how he dies but like others mentioned this show is sooo good at misconceptions

  • I LOVED both the last two episodes. I enjoy the foreshadowing they appear to be doing about Jack's death despite the sadness and tears it brings. I just love the way they are approaching that particular story line.

Now all the other story lines?! OMG I couldn't love Katy and Toby more... and Kate getting Audio FOR TOBY... ALLTHEFEELS. And I love Randall and Beth's relationship. The final scene as they are getting rooms for all the residents of their apartment building... just love how they have the two interact because it feels so authentic.

  • @mikkimikey omg that crock pot statement is hysterical ... I think they went a little over the top with their justifications and safety explanation.

I also loved the part where young Kate zooms in on her dad's face watching her sing. So precious!

@mikkimikey i was totally yelling at Kate too! I was like, "DONT YOU DARE!! MOVE FORWARD!!! THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AUDIO!!" So glad she heard us! ;)

@mountainsmama totally agree!! I think they’ve been butthurt ever since the Instapot came out, though  :D

@sjn00 thank goodness she heard us!! I was all “I want him!!!!! Look at that face!!!!”
  • Am I the only one who was confused about why they STILL had a faulty crockpot? They got it from the neighbor when Rebecca was pregnant. Seriously, 17 years later and you still hadn't replaced it??

@MrsF1017 My theory is that "Crock Pot" paid them for a placement ad (to show longevity) and got screwed! :D

In all seriousness... My mom has some of the OLDEST kitchen gadgets. She keeps stuff until it dies... and that old stuff apparently doesn't die until it burns down a house! (...too soon?)
