Ugh can't even think about eating right now. When I'm not nauseated, I stuff plain carbs and some protein snacks I can stomach into my face as quickly as I can before the nausea hits again. Currently my diet seems to be smoothies, pasta of various forms, bagels, crackers, some cheese and nuts. I'm basically a toddler.

Super pretzels and preggy drops here. I forgot how bad grocery shopping was with MS until I had to go yesterday, nothing looked good at all and I barely made it out alive. Also animal crackers, but this time I have to share them with DD, and she's learned the word cookie, so now I feel like I have to share them.

Have any of you spoken to your doctors about herbal teas during pregnancy? Google is giving me mixed messages about their safety.

I'm still eating the same food but I started having food aversion last night. My mother had to cook my dinner separately which makes her to start getting curious about me. We didn't tell anyone yet

I've talked to my OB in the past who was religiously against it. I think Google is better, if you  try Pinterest like me, your confusion will be greater

I don't have any nausea yet and praying it never shows up, so I am doing my best to eat as healthy as possible. I usually have 1 cup of coffee in the morning, a yogurt and some fruit or toast for breakfast, lunch is usually a sandwich or a salad, and we've been eating a lot of chicken and salmon for dinners. Between meals I've been snacking on nuts, raw veggies, fruits, cottage cheese, etc.

@SkilledSailor I was also wondering about herbal teas! I basically looked at the back of all my teas and googled each ingredient. Some were strong Dont's like Licorice and Hibiscus(if I'm remembering right). After I went through and did that I made a baggy of the teas I couldn't drink to give away. If you hear anything more concrete, let me know. I plan to ask at my appointment next week!

I made baked chicken drumsticks and rice the other night, and omg it was sooooo good.  Give me all the chicken broth / drippings, please!  :D

I have started looking into Bradley method a little bit.  Does anyone have experience with that?

I was planning on doing a Whole30 before I tested + so I decided to continue on as long as I could this month. So far it's going great! I didn't have MS last time, just major food aversions to seafood, so hopefully it'll be something similar this time around.

@SkilledSailor I think chamomile is off limits. I steer clear of any of the Yogi teas without weird ingredients like skullcap (e.g. the calming and sleepytime teas) because it says on the box to ask your doctor if it's OK to use if you're pregnant.
@cbobell2009 It didn't know about hibiscus! Thanks for the heads up.

@starla I’d been finding that chamomile was one of the few safe ones. Who knew tea could be so complicated. I ended up drinking my echinacea tea since everything I found said it was only iffy because it hasn’t been studied enough. It’s not like I’m binging on it.

I lost 35lbs on weight watchers, and was almost to my goal, leading up to my BFP so I was eating really healthy. I was doing great sticking with the healthy foods (but no longer trying to lose weight) until today. The nausea hit for real today and I ate nothing but simple carbs! Cereal, bagel, toast, etc. The thought of veggies made me feel so ill. Hoping I can get a little more nutrition in tomorrow!
I have also been wondering about the herbal tea. I’m not a coffee drinker but I do like hot and iced teas. I’ve been staying away from them for now.

The teas seams to be a tricky one, with lots of mixed messages. Lemon grass and hibiscus are defiantly out but everything else I looked at they were saying about not taking it at high doses. Which doesn't have much relevance when all you want to know is if you can have a cup of tea or not.

It's cold so I'm just wanting hot soup and gooey casseroles. Also craving my favorite sushi rolls, of course. I'll have to see if there are some cooked rolls I might like. No unusual cravings so far, never had any last time. Just thirsty all the time and nothing I drink really hurts the spot.
My scale died a little after Thanksgiving and I had a bad feeling I had endulged a bit too much during the holidays. Well I finally replaced the batteries this morning.  :| No bueno. So I am gonna be trying to control my diet as much as I can before the aversions and nausea hit.

I’m eating anything while I can. Just waiting for the nausea to settle in and make its home for the next couple of months.

@BusinessWife I looked into Bradley once upon a time. My doula was a Birth Boot Camp instructor and I never did the class because we were really limited on money at the time, I would recommend it. Both of my births I did no classes whatsoever and with my second and this baby I will have a doula.

I’m on a pretty strict saltines and bagels diet right now. So jealous of those of you who are eating healthy foods! I just...can’t...do...it! I turn green at the thought of pretty much everything!
  • Options
Ah @megnwingate I forgot that theres the whole class thing... I just found like a weekly list of foods they think you should be consuming, and trying to shoot for that?  I haven't looked into the whole deal, tbh...

I was going to try getting a doula as well.  Anything I can specifically point out to DH as to the value?  I'm not sure he'd be against having one, just as I mentioned having a labour support person WHO IS NOT THE PARENTS - and who can help communicate to friends and family who may be trying to come in too soon, or etc etc etc idk.  But I know they are more than a personal assistant for the delivery, I guess I just wanted a little more from the perspective of personal experience.  How would working with a midwife+doula differ from what the Bradley method people do?
  • Options
@BusinessWife The role of the doula is complicated, but she's there to support mom and dad. Maybe dad needs a nap, or sandwich, or his hands need a break from massage or squeezing. Also, depending on whether you're doing home, center, or hospital birth, the midwife may not be arriving for many hours or may only stop in the room for a couple min every hour before the pushing starts. So the doula is there to help give techniques for handling pain, positioning ideas to help progress, and act as a translator between parents and medical staff. They can also show dad or needs ideas to dad on how best to assist you, and remind both of you to keep hydrated, and go to the bathroom, etc.

Not that that's saying much because I drank/drink GT's kombucha. And most internet searches probably advise against that. :|

It took everything in me to skip the romaine at Chipotle yesterday! The romaine is crucial to a Whole30 bowl that feels even a little balanced :D:D
I figured with there being E. coli cases in Indiana + Chipotle's record of outbreaks, better to refrain!

@BusinessWife pretty much everything @pourmeamocktail said about the doula. Mine was actually there for the whole birth as my husband was offshore for work and he didn’t make it in on time. (I was only in labor with her for 3 hours 44 minutes). She was there for everything! She offered to drive me to the hospital, for her kids to watch my oldest while I was in labor, etc. overall she was amazing. This time I’m using her sister, who is actually a midwife now. Though I’m not using her as a midwife since she isn’t with a practice yet, but if I have a quicker labor than I did with my second, at least she knows what she’s doing! Haha

I have been doing my best to eat healthy and have my 6 small meals a day rich in super foods. I find myself, however, craving pizza with chicken cutlets specifically a lot. Trying not to give into it though. I am also having distrusted sleeping patterns. Either sleeping late or waking up at 4am and hungry! Cheese is a weakness at this point but I try to eat fruits or yogurt instead. Not sure how else to curb that.
