Re: 2nd trimester check in - Week of Jan 15

  • I figured I'd get a head start the night before because I tend to remember when I come home from work on Mondays!

AFM I reached viability. I am amazed I got this far. So surreal. I guess with each stage I have my own set of worries. Yesterday I was worried I couldn't feel my baby movement as often as I'd like. I know it's still kind of early for kick counts, but I've been feeling consistent movement daily for a while now. So one day I haven't and it got me all worried. Luckily the baby is moving around a lot more today, so I'm feeling more relieved. I was really tempted to go to my clinic yesterday!

  • 28 weeks this Wednesday so I guess I am graduating from this forum this week! I have an ultrasound this Friday so excited to see him again!  It’s been 8 weeks!

@helloworld9 Congrats on reaching viability!  My baby has been moving pretty much all day everyday but he must be Moving around as sometimes I feel him more (his kicks make my belly jump) and sometimes not so much (just a gentle thump once in a while). Makes me worry when I don’t feel him as much. I guess I will worry until he is born, and even after he’s born I have a feeling I will continue to worry... hopefully I don’t turn into a neurotic Asian mom.

  • I'm at 13 weeks so I am moving up to the 2nd trimester check ins! I am so glad to be putting the first trimester behind me. I was released by my RE last week and I am scheduled for my OB US and genetic testing on Thursday. I am a bit nervous but I am sure everything will be fine

I am new to this thread/group but a bump veteran.  Quick history/intro:  DH & I TTC for 3.5 years, 2.5 with an RE, no issues other an ovulation, we did many rounds of clomid, I had *TW* two m/c during those rounds, we took a break, did one IUI and then spent 10 months doing 4 rounds of IVF with the last one being successful.  I will be 18 weeks this Thursday (due date is June 21st) and it's still super surreal.  I was pretty active in the infertility boards and since getting my bfp, I mainly stayed in a TTCAL grad board.  The June BMB is so busy, I lurked but don't think I can keep up.  Hopefully this will be a good place to be (I see lots of familiar names) :)

yay for viability @helloworld9!  I am looking forward to reaching that day too, it must feel amazing.

@cashewchicken I can't wait to feel movement too and that is so exciting you get to see LO this week!  The break between u/s are hard.  I had 5 within the first 12.5 weeks and now I am going on 5 weeks without one or an appointment and it was really hard at first.  My doppler is my lifesaver and it's already turned me into a neurotic asian mom  :D

congrats on graduating to your OB @cseley321.  I did the early testing too and the results came back a little quicker than we expected, hopefully they do the same for you too!  I have the second part of that testing tomorrow.

  • Hi ladies! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Welcome to the new ladies.
The break between US is so hard. It’s been almost 2 months. We finally get a long one on Thursday. Can’t wait! Our early testing came back within a couple days as well. Hopefully it doesn’t take long for you.
@Aera11 do you know the sex of the baby or are you waiting to find out?
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.
  • Hello everyone! I am just 13 weeks today but I’m going to jump over to second tri! It’s still so hard to believe, especially since I have no belly yet lol. I had an ultrasound and my NIPT blood work last week. U/S looked good and still waiting on results of lab work so I hope it comes a little earlier than to 2weeks we were told like it did for you guys. Next appointment is next Thursday with the OB.

@cashewchicken I am also addicted to my Doppler. I just love hearing that little heart going strong and steady. Hopefully I’ll be able to let go of it once I start feeling some movements. I tell DH I will worry until I’m holding him/her in my arms and then he says no, you will still find something to worry about :D so you are not alone.

@helloworld9 hello there and congrats on hitting viability!

@cseley321 hello again! (I hope you are who I think you are because it’s the same avatar lol)

    Welcome @Aera11!

@Holls214 yay to finally getting an ultrasound this week! Hope everything is perfect as can be.
  • Hello all! We're 23 weeks tomorrow!
I've signed up for our birthing classes, which is making things feel more real!
My next appointment is at 25 weeks and I will have the glucose tolerance test then :/
Besides the fact that lots of sugary stuff makes me feel nauseous, I hate artificially colored/flavored stuff! I never drink anything like this at home, I wish there was a more natural options.. Can't I just have some all natural lemonade or something? I might call and see what the options are.
How did the glucose test go for you ladies who have had it? What was the drink like?

  • YAY for viability @helloworld9. That's a great feeling :) Glad you're feeling baby a lot more today.
@cashewchicken YAY for almost 3rd trimester! How exciting.
@cseley321 Welcome to your 2nd trimester! What an exciting milestone to graduate from the RE too.
@Aera11 Welcome! I'm also in the June BMB but haven't been as active lately for the same reason. I posted mainly on TTGP before pregnancy. Glad to have you here, what a journey! Congrats :)
@Holls214 Yes the wait is tough! My last appt was the beginning of this month and we don't have anything until Jan 30th now! GL on Thurs :)
@safire3 So nice to see you here girl!! Yay for 2nd tri! So glad your U/S looked good.
@ReesaAnne16 I totally hear you on the glucose test. I will say that it wasn't quite as bad as I thought it'd be when I was pregnant with DS. They didn't give me any other options though, just the sugary junk. All I ever drink is water so it felt like a shock to my system. I'm not looking forward to it this time around either, but at least I know it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd heard from others. Of course, it is totally subjective depending on your doctor's choice of drink and your taste buds I think.

AFM, I'm 18 weeks tomorrow! So I'll be officially in my 5th month tomorrow. Cool to think about :) In just a few days, my EDD will be exactly 5 month away. It feels far away, but I know it'll go by faster than I think it will. I'm so looking forward to our A/S later this month. I'm curious to see if my placenta will have shifted from its anterior placement by then too. My anterior placenta is really muting so much of baby's movements, I can hardly feel anything unless the movement is on one of my sides.

  • @Holls214 we are waiting!  We did the early NIPT and could've found out then but we passed.  I probably would've found out but DH really wanted to be surprised so that was fine with me :)

@ReesaAnne16 ugh I am dreading the glucose test too...my ob offers that drink or jelly beans.

Thanks @TravelingCouple!  Our due dates are sooo close too!  That's great that you can already feel movements.  Mine is posterior and I am hoping that I will feel something by 20 weeks so I can ease up on my doppler haha
  • @cseley321 welcome to the second trimester! I remember feeling a huge relief to leave the first trimester behind me, too!  good luck on your tests this week.

@Aera11  welcome! Nice to see more familiar names!  I remember I first noticed my baby move at 18 weeks so hopefully you’ll feel your LO soon too!  I was so tempted to buy a Doppler and was wishing I had one this morning as my baby decided to have a lazy morning. The break between u/s is hard. My MFM even suggested pushing u/s later at my last appointment, but nope! I need to see my baby! I read somewhere that at this stage the baby has more fat on his/her face so I’m excited. At 20 weeks he looked just like my husband so we’ll see if his looks have changed.

  • @Holls214 had a great, lazy weekend. I did nothing today!

@safire3 welcome! Another Doppler lover! I’m really tempted.

@ReesaAnne16 I had my test done before I became pregnant, when I was first diagnosed with pre-diabetes. The drink wasn’t delicious but was okay. Tasted just like those artificially flavored juices from my childhood that come in a gallon-sized plastic jugs. I doubt the stores sell these kind of juices anymore, lol, they are so bad for you! I remember it was about 8 oz and had to chug it in under 5 min.  I did a 2-hr test so I had to stick around the lab for two hours to get blood drawn. Good luck!

@TravelingCouple yay 18 weeks! I never knew the position of the placenta made such a difference. Mine is placed posterior so I began to feel the kicks pretty early. But now I’m so sensitive to the movement that I totally freak out when I don’t feel him for 30 min!  Can’t wait to meet my little one.

  • @cashewchicken I notice the heart beat move on my doppler so I am guessing that is baby moving, so hopefully it won't be long before I feel something!  Oh gosh no, I wouldn't let them push my u/s either!  Will you or have you done a 3D one?  I am Asian and DH is not so I am super curious haha
  • @Aera11 @cseley321 @safire3 Added you all to the list! Hopefully I got your EDDs right. Anyone know if boy or girl? :)@Aera11 btw I'm having a bi-racial babe too so I'm suuuuuper curious about how he will look like!

@cashewchicken I think the worry will never end! Such is the life of a parent (to be!)

@Holls214 I know what you mean. My last u/s was a month ago and I have no idea when my next is going to be!

@ReesaAnne16 Oh gosh I'm taking my glucose test in a month. Not looking forward to blood draws! The lab tech who does it really sucks for some reason. I have no idea why she does it for a living.

@TravelingCouple I feel like my baby's movements are mostly on my right side!

@helloworld9 we still don't know if it's a boy or girl, but hoping to find out soon. My due date is 7.22.18, so you were close enough ;)

    @safire3 yes it's the same person :)
  • @helloworld9 my due date is correct & we don't know what we're having!  Could've found out with the nipt but we passed.  I just scheduled my anatomy scan & echocardiogram! Can't wait to see this baby :)
  • @Hopeful_mom good luck on the anatomy scan! Also the pregnancy worry doesn't ever totally end until the baby is in your arms... then there is a whole new kind of worry ;)
  • Yay @Hopeful_mom hoping your little ones anatomy scan tomorrow goes well! Are you going to find out the gender?

  • @Hopeful_mom that is awesome that you are already getting your anatomy scan. Hope everything is perfect! I can’t wait to get to that stage of feeling little kicks and movement.

@helloworld9 yep due date is correct, thanks for adding me! We are hoping to find out the gender soon when we get the results of the NIPT back.

  • Sitting waiting for the doctor for a check up... I’m really struggling with the weight gain. I have already gained almost 15 pounds. Not like I’m eating that much but I guess not being that active either. She said I’m on the higher side for weight gain. Argh. I know it’s normal but it’s so hard to see your body change.

  • @Holls214 the body changes are hard. I totally understand. How'd the rest of your checkup go?
  • @Holls214 The weight gain thing is sooo hard. I gained 10lbs the year we were doing treatment due to the hormones, and at my 20wk appointment, I had already gained an additional 20lbs :/
I think it was a combination of having to eat through my first trimester nausea and... the holidays.

My mom apparently gained 70lbs when she was pregnant with me (and lost most of it), my sister-in-law said she gained 50-60lbs with each of her 4 kids, and now shes back to LESS than her pre-pregnancy weight.

  • @Holls214 don't sweat the weight gain too much. I gained 50 with my first and lost it all pretty easily 8 or 9 months or so later.. I did BF though. And this is coming from someone who has had struggles in the past with weight.

I am trying to stay close to my target weight, but I am consistently 1 to 2 lbs over again.. the weight gain for me escalated last time around 37 weeks.
  • @Hopeful_mom aww what a cutie!!! So glad it went well and you had a great tech :)

The worry never goes away, it just changes to different worries once the baby is out! I remind myself that worrying means I care and I love this little being so much. And it means I'm fully human!
  • @Hopeful_mom What an amazing picture! All of my anatomy scan pictures were not very clear. My baby just wasn't cooperating that day. I showed them to my parents and they were like ok. Didn't even know what we were looking for!

  • Awe thanks ladies. The struggle is real.... It’s just hard when I love food haha. You all are amazing!
we also had our anatomy scan today too. He was swimming around everywhere and we confirmed it was a boy too. He wasn’t cooperating that much so I’m surprised she got a decent picture. Exciting for everyone getting theirs as we finally get to see the babies again after such a long break.
Hope everyone is having a good week!

  • @ReesaAnne16 I think that’s the struggle with IVF too and the weight gain. I definitely gained a tummy from ER and shots that never fully went away before becoming pregnant so that adds to it too. I also agree that the holidays didn’t help! :)

  • @holls214 awwww how cute - love it and I got a foot pic too soooo funny!  She showed me the baby pressing the foot down and i didn't feel it...so its interesting.  Did they tell you the size of the baby.  I believe mine is 13oz :)  I didn't get the inches next time ;)  @ReesaAnne16 and yes i think of all the IVF weight and i can't even let that get me down...from each cycle even from the IUIs i gained a couple of lbs and they all just added up...its worse now cause u just feel like a bigger marshmallow each day!!

@TravelingCouple u said it beautifully I need to remember that!!

@helloworld9 many of my pics were blurry I posted the best one, I"m thrilled!! We were spoiled with Vag US getting up close and personal with our beans as the belly sono looked like the babe shrunk at first.  At first my baby thought they were a lil cat all curled up and then luckily they started stretching :)

  • They didn’t say the size or weight of the babes. He totally looked like a cat at first too haha. My bladder also fills up so fast I had to pee twice to empty it. Got the results back and baby looks great. They did say that I have a shorter cervix due to some cancerous cells I had removed years ago so I’ll have to be watched for early labor though.

  • Loving all the ultrasound pics ladies!!! I'm 26wk6days and can't believe I'm almost in the third trimester. Don't have a lot to update, been an uneventful week besides its my first week back to work. Oh and I have been lucky to have only gained 13lbs so far which is fine with me since I'm already plus size.
  • such great u/s pics @Hopeful_mom@Holls214 :) and so glad everything came back clear!  I am having my anatomy scan on Monday and am starting to get nervous for it.  I hope I can just relax and enjoy it.
  • Great pics @Holls214 !

@Aera11 I hope your anatomy scan goes well! I was anxious during it too. Like what if they found something wrong? It's so hard not to be nervous.

  • Hey everyone! So great to hear all your updates! Loving the pictures as well!

AFM, 26+3 with the twins and finally feeling like I'm making progress on the "getting ready" front. MIL just bought us the carseats and stroller so we have almost all of the big stuff now which is super exciting! We have our next growth scan on Monday which I'm excited/nervous about. Super excited to see the babies again! But nervous that they might be behind on growth. With twins, the doc straight up said that they don't care about my weight as long as I'm not depriving myself and the babies are growing properly. So even though I've already gained 24 lbs this will be the first time they tell me if the babies are growing well or if I somehow need to be gaining more (which is the thing I'm really nervous about, esp cause I lost a bit while I was sick, so I'm definitely behind where I would have been). Hopefully everything will be fine but I'm definitely with all of you on the 'body changes are hard' limb. I've got another 10ish weeks to go and am already the size of a full-term singleton! But I'm trying to focus on eating healthy and pretending to exercise and that is definitely helping.
  • thanks @helloworld9!  I know, I am glad it's at 11 or 11:30 so I don't have to sit around all day anxious.  I felt 4 or 5 little thumps this morning, so I am hoping I can ride that high through monday :)

Good luck on monday @nmtay!  So glad you get to see the babies again.
  • @Aera11 I was nervous for ours too. I’m sure the baby will look great. Good luck to both of you!! We also have most of our big stuff our family had been excited I guess and has already spoiled this little man. Excited for you.
