TW Tuesday

Come on, we know you’ve got one!

  • Well I just got off the phone with my insurance company, so you can guess who my TW for the day is. I called to ask why my last OB visit is showing I owe a $60 co-pay, when everything else has been covered 100%. (Thanks, ACA!)

Apparently, ultrasounds aren't considered to be "medically necessary" by my insurance plan. Oh really? Because I'm pretty sure my doctor didn't order an additional ultrasound just so I could get another look at my baby's cute button nose. Pretty sure it was to check on the growth of a tumor in my uterus to confirm it wasn't inhibiting baby's growth!

When I pointed out that I've had several ultrasounds at this point and I haven't had to pay for them, she asked what the date of my last one was so she could see for herself. I told her the date of my anatomy scan (you know, also not "medically necessary" to check for any abnormalities with baby's development...), and that's when she informed me that claim has been denied. Um, what? That's the first I'm hearing about any of this, and that appointment was in October.

So now I have to hope my doctor can re-send that claim in with it re-coded so that I only have to pay the $60 co-pay, or I'm going to have to pay the full $380 cost of that visit. What year is it again? Because I'm pretty sure ultrasounds are standard prenatal care. Assholes.

    Sorry... end rant.
  • @stlbuckeye132 That is effing ridiculous. I hope you can work it out. I can sympathize with you because my insurance only covers 2 ultrasounds 100% in the whole pregnancy. I'm AMA and have hydramnios so I have to get u/s every two weeks at $25 per u/s so that is adding up nicely for us as well. Yayyyyy.

  • @stlbuckeye132 such a twisted system. That sucks you have to even worry about something like that 3 months later! Such BS!

  • One of my coworkers, while a very nice person, is a TW for coming to work with the flu. I'll be bathing in Lysol tonight!

  • @muggle621 I hate when people do that!! Go home and keep your germs to yourself.
  • @muggle621 Same.

I'm a TW for putting off grading tests over the weekend and having to sacrifice my lunch to get them done. Damn lazy past self.

Hahah i hate when I do that! Hope you got them done
  • Today at work, I was in the public cafeteria on my lunch ordering food for me and my two neighbors (I work for local county government and our building is large enough to accommodate its own deli store). The person behind me in line made some snarky comment about my order, assuming since I’m fluffy that I had ordered it all for myself. The cafeteria owner came to my defense and curtly explained that I regularly get food for multiple people and that I’m also eating for two. TW, says something snarky again that I didn’t quite catch so I just do a 90 degree turn to showcase my huge bump and then they’re like, “Are you sure it’s only one baby in there and it’s not twins?” Like seriously TW?!? Owner ended up discounting my food because even he couldn’t believe how horrible this complete stranger was to me (them, a client- me, an employee). But they must have probably just gotten bad news or just are usually a TW. Still, be mean to a pregnant lady? Growl.
  • Today's TW is medical/insurance nonsense. Why on earth am I the one calling my doctor and telling her to send in a prescription? It feels like the medical group I work with doesn't want to have to call the insurance companies at all and are pushing it off on the patients, which feels weird. Maybe its been like this, but its new to me at the very least, and I'm not thrilled.

Stuck in the box but...I don't care how bad a day said TW was having, you shouldn't have gotten those comments. That sucks and I'm sorry you had to deal with that foolery.

  • @cford08, it’s definitely appreciated. I’m a bigger girl to start with and I get the innocent questions all the time about if I’m having twins. DD1 was born 8lbs 6 oz at 37 weeks 1 day. I make big babies and carry high. Lol. It usually doesn’t bother me but I’ve been a bundle of hormones recently due to insomnia and extra work stress. At least me and my friends got discounted food out of the deal since the owner is partial to me anyway. He gave me free ice cream yesterday. Hehe.
